      I know adding a alternator is out of the question, it would take away from your power plus you don’t want that. My question is could you add flexible solar panels without disturbing the air flow or adding to much weight so the battery charges while flying in the daylight?

    A lot of professional aerobatic performers also compete in air racing. Are you thinking about doing that as well? Also you mentioned having to switch to a mono wing aircraft at some point, but there are other niche areas of aerobatic performing where you can stay in a biplane. It’s not going to be the highest level of air about a competition, per se, but there are a lot of successful performers flying Stearman‘s and other similar aircraft.

    Awesome Video! I just got a Skybolt and am going to work my way up to IAC. What kind of prop is that? You mentioned the prop being ground adjustable, I have the same engine and only a simple fixed pitch but am trying to look into other ground adjustable, in-flight adjustable, or constant speed options.

    • @BenLomov
      @BenLomov  3 года назад +1

      That’s awesome, hope to see you around sometime. And I don’t know why I said that to be completely honest. I think I just got carried away with all the talking I was doing, but mine is a simple fixed pitch metal prop. It’s not adjustable at all. You can get propellers that are adjustable on the ground, but they are not so common.
      Getting a constant speed prop would be the best thing you can do, but it’s also the most expensive/complicated way to go about it. But I think you would do just fine without it as well. Most Pitts have a fixed pitch prop.

      Wouldn't matter. You just need to prop it to start it if you need to go somewhere. If they have a IO 360 it won't start. I had this problem yesterday where the boost pump died and It wouldn't start then.

    Ben, I think you were wrong about the G limits of your pits S-1. +6 -3 is NOT a lot for an aerobatic airplane ! I flew a Pitts S2B and remember doing +81/2 Gs and -3, the instructor told me that I could NOT do anything in the air to Break the plane before I passed out !

    If you have a fuel tank burning do you even have time to get out the plane?

    One of the reasons I wouldn’t mind moving to the USA, is for the aviation. Over here in the UK, we don’t have the “experimental” option, we only really have the certified. The only exception that I can think of, are those in the UK that are crazy enough to build their own plane. But it has to be certified by the CAA. The wood and glue has to be certified for use, the steel, aluminium. It’s a major headache and nowhere near as easy as in the USA. For better or worse, who knows. There’s no real data to say that the UK’s system is safer and visa versa.
