If I had a teacher like you when I first started playing I would be so much further along than I am. All my first teacher taught me was how to play 'twinkle twinkle little star' and nonsense like that. He was an old dixieland banjo player who thought he could teach guitar and he hated rock-n-roll. No explanation of scales, arpeggios or root notes. It's taken awhile but this stuff is finally starting to make sense thanks to swiftlessons and couple of other patient teachers on RUclips. You're the first one I've heard who said 'speed comes later', how true. Thank you so much!
Rob, I truly don't know how to thank you! This is another one of those moments when you feel euphoric and it propels you forward to another level! This is music education that sticks with you and you pull from it as you mature as a musician. I'm getting there Rob and it feels so damn good! :)
You have been adopted. I've been looking for an online guitar instructor for some time. You explain things very succinctly. I agree with Todd Russell below, you teach in a personable fashion with no self aggrandizement. I've been playing guitar for 50 years. Self taught. But I've never taken the time to learn arpeggios or scales. Now I am at the point where I have to. I'm developing arthritis in my hands now. Learning these, arpeggios and scales, will help appease movement in my fingers. Thank you for these lessons. I look forward to a long student/instructor relationship.
I've been playing for decades but have yet to see someone so easily describe arpeggios. Thanks for "teaching" and not using the time to show off instead! Beautifully done, Sir. Beautifully done. I'll be watching more.
I've been teaching myself guitar for 7 years, and have been looking to progress, this is by far the best lesson I've ever watched, so helpful, thank you so much
Bro, you’re an amazing teacher. Every time I watch your videos, I learn something. Seriously, probably the best I’ve seen. I wish you great success as you continue!
Great job, bravo! Something "clicked" watching your presentation. I'm a rhythm guitarist, what lead I've done has mostly been a matter of luck. I see now how using the scale, and emphasizing the chord tones from the arpeggio opens up all kinds of melodic possibilities. Thank you.
I had been on the verge of all the info you covered in this vid. Thank you for putting it all together, I finally understood it. The golden rule helped alot. Thank you again.
Been practicing Am pentatonic scale for the past couple of months and also Cmajor scales, been practicing strumming 1,4,5, chord progression too and now you show appergio in 1,4,5 chord progression, now I have something new to learn, thanks a lot.
Two words: da best. Between my accumulated foundation and the quality of this instruction, this is the first time I've been able to follow any lesson on incorporating arpeggios and scale tones. Most other tutors just show off what they can do but don't instruct or do a good job of it. You definitely are worth my money I haven't looked yet but I wonder what you've got for lessons
Hi Rob Truly a great tutor. You do not bombard or overwhelm us.Like the way you break down concepts/riffs into 'digestible pieces'Being a retired educator I fully appreciate the need for this.I am now able to play some seemIngly impossible songs/licks/riffs.A big THANK YOU to you!!.
Hey thanks so much Amrit! So glad you're enjoying these lessons. Many more are on the way, with additional content and resources at patreon.com/Swiftlessons. Keep me posted on your progress!
What a wonderful teacher you are!! I have been playing for quite a time.. and nobody has explained so effortlessly like you have, simply beautiful and delightful. I have subscribed and I say thank you !!!
That was a great lesson. Many thanks. Like Todd Russell said in his comment below, I have been playing for a long time, and you describe arpeggios in a way that makes sense, and is really clear. And that makes the thought of learning arpeggios much less intimidating to me. Thanks again.
I like to thank you, for your lessons on guitar, I am totally blind, your tutorials, they have been very very helpful for me, thank you because every day I can get up and listen to one of your videos, and know that I am going to get something positive out of them thank you again.
Great lesson...chords.. arpeggios..scales..fretboard postion..simple..the only thing you left out was the unending practice needed to make it look easy.🎶😎
Dude, I've subscribed to your Channel at a prior time but this is the first time I had a chance to see you in action. I like it very much and I can learn a lot from you. Thank you, I really appreciate you taking your time to share your guitar lessons with us people wanting to learn and improve our guitar playing skills. ... Icon King ... Mark.
Pretty cool lesson This guy is good. Informative lesson taught with ease. Thank you sir, that’s what I needed, a lesson on how to bring it together, so that I can noodle around the fret board, and get cool sounds.
I got all of it but with medium speed .Got to practice a lot to get the required speed.I'll try to improvise in different scales once I become comfortable with all the things you taught in this video. Hammer on and a pull off at the same time sounds so cool. I have observed that you were strumming with the pick as well as finger picking at the same time while you played in this video. I always wanted to learn this and even tried it myself without success but watching you play both with the pick and fingers at the same time in this video helped me getting the knack of it. All thanks to you!! This technique will be very helpful in strumming and picking at the same time. Thanks you so much !
I've been watching your videos for quite a while now and I've learnt a lot from you, because you make it fun and interesting. Your channel definitely deserves higher recognition.
spartan9035 Thanks so much for the kind words. I'll keep at it and hopefully the channel will continue to pick up steam. Thanks again and have a great day. -Rob
Rob I enjoy your videos, very informative. Thank you for putting them together. If I could make one suggestion, have a loop pedal so when you show the scale or your licks they can be demonstrated over the chord changes. Thanks again.
Hey long time fan, just want to let you know that I've purchased a guitar (upgrade from a baritone uke). Still getting used to the sheer heft of the instrument but a lot of the chord shapes easily transitioned over to playing the larger instrument. I'm having fun and will now take your advice to learn scales now that I have more strings to work with. I still really love your videos. Side note, also bought my mom an electric guitar. Now we're learning together and even jam over the phone while I'm finishing college. Thanks for everything!
Bro, you made my day. I've been looking for something like this for so long. I just hit the Subcribe button and share it to my friend. Thanks again for everything.
Good practice stuff. Thanks, Rob! BTW, I don't categorize myself as a "rhythm" or "lead" guitarist, I just play guitar. Whether I play lead or rhythm depends on lots of other things, like if I'm playing by myself or not. So, when I'm playing by myself I usually play both!
I have that same shirt with matching shorts that are really short but I like how much it reminds me of some hunter s thompson would have been wearing in the late 60s.
jendunn Awesome, thats exactly what I was hoping for. Now would be a great time to look for the same chords else where on the neck and learn the scale patterns that connect to each. Once you've got a grasp of the basic majors, you can move on to minor chord shapes and scale, and definitely dominant 7ths. Thanks so much for checking this out, glad you enjoyed it. -Rob
Collingsd2h Its my pleasure, so glad to help you branch out. Try finding some other positions for the chords, and the connecting scales to go even further. Thanks for taking the time to comment, means a lot. -Rob
Dude. I'm a bit tipsy. I dig this. Everything clicked. Do you have something I can follow? I think guitar is the best instrument. I can listen for days and though I've farted around for years I'm not good. I'll keep watching and trying if you keep posting.
