So I have to upgrade to the $25 plan just to be able to upload a custom theme? Also, with integrations, does this add new links inside the Ghost admin panel so that I can control everything from one place? Thanks!

From the ghost website: Our Starter plan comes with free integrations including Slack, Unsplash, FirstPromoter and Google AMP. Our higher plans also include advanced integrations that require custom theme code or API keys, like Zapier and GitHub.
Themes: Our Starter plan comes with a selection of official Ghost themes. If you want to build and use a custom or premium theme, this can be done on any of our higher plans.
You should be able to control these advanced features from within the interface. All of this should be able to be controlled from the General Settings page. Hope this helps...

Yes, it works like a regular website. It just has some integrated tools that make running a newsletter (free or paid) easier. I'm not saying it is necessarily better than Wordpress, but I use it because I like it better for what I'm doing.
