- This is the first of a series of videos on @thesunbeamalpinechannel that feature Alpine owners telling their stories of why they have an Alpine, when they got it and things that have done with it and to it. Every owner has a reason for owning an Alpine and a unique Alpine story to tell.
If you would like to feature on the channel and tell us all YOUR Alpine story just get in touch and we will tell you what to do. It doesn't matter where in the World you live, how long you have had your Alpine, whether it is a concours example or an old banger YOU have a story and we would love to record it on this channel for posterity and let other Alpine enthusiasts hear it.
Great to hear about Alpy!. Thank you
Richard, I’m glad that you enjoyed our story. Lots of others are coming up in the future from different Alpine owners from all over. Why not tell yours?
Your story really is a story. I Started filming my story today, I’m looking forward to adding it to this (and my 'Know Expert' channel ) although my story is more of a what I’ve done since I bought it video….. but hey I suppose all our 'stories are going to be different! I really hope others in the SAOC club are encouraged to make their own videos after seeing this. Thanks Tim.
Alan, I am really glad that you enjoyed the story. Lots of different ones will build up on here over time and will be available for people to watch for as long as we have the internet. I am looking forward to watching your video story.
That's a fantastic story and I congratulate you on your search and never giving up to find the Alpine. All the best Bob
Thanks Bob, there are some really good ‘Me and My Alpine’ stories coming up. Everyone has a backstory as to WHY they have an Alpine, all are unique, some are really amazing.
What a story top stuff ... Love the channel helps me loads restoring mine..
Everyone has a story about how they came to be involved with Alpines. We’ve got some great stories coming up. Why not tell yours?
Nice! As a new Alpine owner, I hope to make many memories in mine.
I’m sure that you will. You may be a new Alpine owner but you will still have a unique story. Why not tell it on the channel? What made YOU choose an Alpine rather than an MG or some other 1960s car? What have you done to it? What are you going to do with it? What condition is it in? People will be interested.
Great story. I had two Alpines in 1972: a white series one and a red series two. That was in the days before old cars became classis, so parts for Alpines, other a few engine items, were vitually unobtainable. Sadly they both made the journey to the great parking lot in the sky, Checking the red one with DVLA, 683 RTA plate was used eleswhere until 1980, while the white one, YGH 444, has no record of it. Strange how car reg. numbers stay in my mind. I can remember my TR6 FRP 242L, Humber Sceptre 84 GOR, Granada 2.8i Ghia, EGF 11T and lots more but I can`t remember where I put a pen two minutes ago.
I know what you mean! Number plates get fixed in your memory for some reason don't they. I'm glad that you enjoyed the video. There are some great 'Me and My Alpine' stories coming up. Everyone has a reason for owning an Alpine and a story to how they ended up with one of these lovely old cars.
Great story, and you've made a cracking job of restoring a cool british sports car.
Thank you for your kind words. Keep an eye out for some of the other 'Me and My Alpine' stories coming up. There are some really good tales being told by people who have been enchanted by a Sunbeam Alpine. These cars have a real effect on people, it is surprising how many owners have had their cars for 30, 40 or 50+ years. There are not that many cars that have so much impact on people.
incroyable!!! 👍
I'm glad you enjoyed my story. There are some very entertaining 'Me and My Alpine' stories coming up.
Magnus Walker does OPP. Other Peoples Porsches.
I suppose this is MAMA? Well done Tim. 😬😂
Sounds about right. You need to tell YOUR story because we all want to hear it!
Routes and Alpi.
Lots of different routes!!!
You have done a light restored on your Alpine but have you fixed the notorious head gasket problem that plagues these 1725 cc Rootes Group engines well Toyota fixed the problem because my 1997 Toyota Hilux with 439000 kilometres hasn't blown a head gasket because the 22R engine is over engineered
I’m not sure it was a ‘light’ restoration!!!!
The head gaskets only blow if people put tap water into the cooling system. When you put the minerals in tap water together with iron, copper and aluminium you cause the aluminium water channels to erode and the gasket blows. If you use distilled water and bluecol antifreeze (as Rootes recommended) there are no head gasket issues. Your Toyota has certainly done a lot of miles.
@@TheSunbeamAlpineChannel ln an engine if it is well engineered you should be able to put tap water in them why should you have to put distilled water into your cooling system l use tap water in my Toyota Hilux no problem obviously the 1725 alloy head Rootes Group engine wasn't very well engineered that's why there aren't many of them around and they finished selling Hillmans in Australia in the 1970s and l do see 30 year old Toyota's still driving around as daily drivers and in the 2000s l didn't see any Hillman Hunters driving around and l was a courier for 35 years and only saw one Hillman Hunter and l started in the mid 1980s and l should have seen at least couple of them only one and a couple of years ago on Christmas day l saw one 1966 Hillman Minx broken down on the side of an expressway but it was gone on Boxing Day my elder brother likes Rootes Group cars he has two of them both have not run in years and they have major engine problems and his daily driver that is running well is a 1976 Toyota yes Toyota Corolla and the Japanese cars especially in Australia most people bought them because they were so much more reliable than the British vehicles and Australia has absolutely embraced the Japanese cars and especially Toyota were Toyota's are the biggest selling brand in Australia for the last 25 years and the only other brand that will take over is Mazda as for European and British vehicles don't get a look in
@@lesklower7281 The Japanese destroyed the British Motorcycle industry too! You have to use distilled water in an Alpine engine because it has an iron block, copper gasket and aluminium head. If you use tap water (sometimes) the minerals dissolved in the water can act as a catalyst and cause the aluminium water chambers to erode. The head gasket then blows. Always distilled water.
