This is a better interpretation then Prey or Fischer-Dieskau, but..... not every part of his interpretation is fitting best to the sense of the music. We need to make a distinction between that something is presented powerful, emotionaly strong, soft and sensationaly..... and if it makes sense related to the ideas of the composer.

Sorry to everyone who is enjoying this, but I am uncomfortable with this performance. He shouted through the beginning, and the final lied before the closing section, and seems off his game altogether. I adore this performer as a singer and a master class teacher, and I live for Mahler lieder, especially Hampson's readings of all of them, not just these. And other performances he's done of these, too, exquisite. So it's a bit hard to hear this. A bit off, and I am saddened by it. Wondering if he just didn't have the best accord with this pianist?
