Games 3 and 6 really could’ve gone either way. This series was closer than many think. This was arguably the closest NBA Finals ever. Knicks were closer to winning this series in 5 than the Rockets were to winning it in 6. As far as the Starks 2-18 game, hindsight is 20/20. I think you roll with your man every single time. Yea right, go with 35 year old Rolando Blackman who up until that point hadn’t played a single minute in the series. In fact he hadn’t played a single minute since the 4 minutes he played in game 3 of the Indiana series.
Only reason it was a close series is cause the refs allowed the entire series to be played in the knicks dirty style. Allowed knicks to make it an ugly wrestling match. Yet Rockets still won✌️
@@martinaguilar1508 ur wrong tho. Knicks played that way and Rockets played that way except against Western teams with heightened paces but rather interestingly enough as a student of these two ballclubs rather closely in an unprofessional sense the Rockets from 93-95 were a team that played to their opponents styles. I've said numerous times around RUclips that the 93 Knicks and every other 50 win team in 93 outscored their opponents by 500+ points. Cleveland, Chicago, New York, Phoenix, Seattle among them would smother opponents with their styles and bend them to their wills. Whilst Houston won 55 games more than Cleveland's 54 and only beat their opponents by +347 points for the season. 94 was again a season where the Rockets for winning 58 and 2nd most games in 94 were not the top 5 or so teams in point differential....and of course in 95 the Rockets struggled to 47 wins in total and obviously did not dominate their opponents. The Rockets of these seasons were special because unlike anybody but Chicago they could play defensive slugfests Eastern basketball 🏀🧺, and Western wide open track basketball 🏀🧺... But, they also unlike the Bulls of the 90's played down to their weaker opponents, beating the 93 LAClippers 3-2, losing to 55 win Seattle in 7 games, and playing in like 1200 dead or alive games in the two championship postseasons they conquered. They could beat Phoenix in 120 point games, dominate Utah in 94 WCF, lose a game to 94 Blazers and the 7 game slugfest with New York they won after being down 3-2 and losing the point differential overall for the series despite victory. The Rockets were down 2-0 and 3-1 to Phoenix in 94 and 95 and they lost two home games to San Antonio in 95 WCF and beat Orlando in 120 point matchups. The Rockets could be blown off the floor vs Phoenix and Orlando or Seattle and literally allow 20 point comebacks, comeback from 20, and sweep a team that has them down 30 points at one point and looking like old haggish suckers. The Rockets didn't play into the Knicks hands cuz of ref favoritism. They played into their hands because that's how the Rockets played. To their competition tooth and nail, push and pull to limited sometimes fruitful success. Calm down Charlie Chaplin. No dictator for you to artisticly accuse here of menace and affliction. The Rockets are who we know they are.
Hakeem averaged 26.9 ppg 50.0% fg 9.1 rpg 3.6 apg 3.9 bpg Ewing averaged 18.9 ppg 36.4% fg 12.4 rpg 1.7 apg 4.3 bpg So Ewing outrebounded Hakeem but shot quite poorly at 36%. To be honest I remember the knicks just had better rebounding overall and it felt like they were always collapsing on Hakeem with multiple players. I didn't think they had enough players around Hakeem to do it but the Rockets pulled it off.
Because they had the homecourt advantage. Both teams won once in the other's place, but winning both the 1st & last game of series, was largely aided for the Rockets by venue. Rockets won 1 more regular season game than Knicks, and swept the season series vs. New York 2-0. That gave them the homecourt advantage. And never would the Rockets have won Game 6 @ Madison Square Garden, but The Summit + a few lucky bounces was just barely enough.
Oakley also needs to remember they had a chance to win that Finals but Starks went 1-17 from the field in a low scoring game 7 that was decided by 4 points (83-79 final)
Two reasons why they lost. Game 3 Derek Harper falling a sleep guarding Sam Casell allowing him to hit the game winning three (totally swinging the momentum to the Rockets favor) and Game 7 John Starks 2-18
