Yes I just moved here and I love it - I was iffy at 1st but its always something different to do here - definitely loving the less traffic factor than Los Angeles...
I remember the sky use to be lit up along 376 from the steel mills. At dusk and at night, the huge, monstrous Jones and Laughlin steel mill was silhouetted against the sky as far as you could see down the Monongahela River going west. It looked so ominous. Every now and then you could see flames shooting up from one of the chimneys. It was awesome. The whole area smelled like sulfur. As kids, we used to hold our noses as we drove by. Now it's all gone.
Absolutely *loved* this video. This, too, is going straight to the favorites. So many interesting things to see, from a road perspective...bridges, flyovers, hills, views of the skyline, and so on. I never did see the McKees Rock Bridge in person, nor did I even know of its existence. Oh yeah, and thanks for mentioning me in the video! The song worked great for this particular video.
Thank you guys for making Pittsburgh so interesting, especially with this song and with Cate Brothers "Union Man" (a forgotten gem from 1975) in a previous video.
Very nice video.. I used to drive a truck and have been in many of the places you have taped. I recall going through the squirrel hill tunnel and thinking I was going to get stuck. 20 years ago, i279 north of Pittsburgh didn't have very many interchanges and if you made a wrong turn and ended up on that road, you had to travel 10-15 miles before you could turn around
That was an eye opening clip. In all the pictures Ive seen of Pittsburgh, I never would have thought that the city has the topography that it does. I always pictuted Pittsburgh to be flat and not hilly or mountainy like. Pittsburgh looks small too...Looks like I gotta do some research om The Steel City
Oh it's very hilly and rugged, maybe the most of any big city (Metro Population about 2.5 Million) in America....it's a fascinating place, one of my favorite cities to visit. Check out pics of the view from Mt. Washington.
For me, driving on 376 in Pittsburgh feels like the Harlem River/FDR Drive on Manhattan's East Side. Especially when you go westbound and approach the mixing bowl of 376/279/579... it looks and feels like you're either about to enter the Brooklyn Bridge, or you got to go straight for Battery Park and try to make a turnback someplace. That happened to me once trying to get up to Erie from the Oakland section.
They are doing construction along stretches of I-70 between the Turnpike and 79, including new flyover ramps connecting 79 North (from Morgantown) to 70 just east of Washington City. Also seeing construction in pockets on 70 through Washington and Westmoreland counties.
@bsdpowa You are right on Pitt & Philly, Pittsburgh does feel more like a Midwestern city. As for Politics, not the case, in most states the urban areas are blue and the rural areas are red.
Hopefully when both the Mon-Fayette Expressway (PA Turnpike 43) and the Southern Beltway (PA Turnpike 576/Future I-576) is completed that PennDOT reroutes all truck traffic off of I-376 at Squirrel Hill.
@2007markb Thanks, Sounds like an adventure back then. For filming purposes, as much as I love the city, it's one of the most difficult I've seen with regards of turning around and such.
I don't really unbderstand the question, Pittsburghs antiquated road system is interesting but not always easy to get around unless traffic is light, that pretty much goes for any large city.
Hey, long time no see.Firstly, I'm sorry for saying you hate me in the comments back in 2013. I was a young kid. Secondly, will you go to the state of Mississippi anytime soon? Not a request. Just asking nicely. Thirdly, love the video quality. It makes me feel like I'm really driving. Way to go!
@writer125 Lots of wonderful things happen at Heinz Field, such as your favorite team getting demolished, and the home team passing around Hunt Trophies every January.
@TheChamba999 It's more Pittsburgh than anything. Pennsylvania only has a handful of "problem" Interstates: I-376 through Pittsburgh, I-76 through Philadelphia, I-70 between I-79 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and I-83 through Harrisburg. (There is a master plan to upgrade I-83, at least.)
I-70 is in the process now. They are using advanced design techniques at the interchanges featuring many roundabouts and something new called a "diverging diamond" interchange.
@stanleygustafson Thanks! Yep, typing Ohio River Blvd apparently got in my head, it happens. Considering it's a 2 hour ordeal to take it down, fix it and reload I'll live with it.
This is an older video, since 2013 I've been using a Sony HDR-PJ710 Sony Camcorder (which is amazing) and have it on a tripod in the front seat area, this is an old video but the setup is the same no matter what vehicle I use. ruclips.net/video/ApDqCR7T5bA/видео.html
Having driven on Pennsylvania highways myself over years, I believe PA's best stretch of road is the I-84 linking 380 in Scranton to the PA/NY/NJ border at Matamoras. All the others... meh.
@danie123182 The federal government said they didn't have enough money to help PennDOT replace the Greenfield Bridge, and instead gave them pocket change to build the "dummy" bridge under it. The Greenfield Bridge is going to be demolished and replaced in December 2014.
You are correct. The new Greenfield Bridge is now competed, the old crumbling bridge with it's unique "debris-catcher" is now gone and the new bridge is a beauty. Right now they are embarking upon a $75 million upgrade to the Highland Park Bridge (not seen in this video).
Thank you, I'd have to admit I have a real soft spot in my heart for Pittsburgh, it is the most interesting city I've seen.

I don't know why but I find it enjoyable driving on a freeway. It always calms me. Your videos are very entertaining!
+Coaster Lover 205 Thank you and it calms me to drive the too.
+Coaster Lover 205 Here, you might enjoy this Pittsburgh video shot in 2014 with a better camera. ruclips.net/video/9NJlLsgY-jc/видео.html
I know I’m a little late but I love ur videos and thank u for driving through my beautiful city 😀😀👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you very much for watching!
So many things have changed since this video, but one thing will never change - when you drive in Pittsburgh you are either going uphill or downhill.
This is great! love the videos jim :)
Thank you very much!

Freewayjim What's the population of Pittsburgh!
Anthony Bryant Look it up in the wikipedia entry, you'll get both city and metro.
Freewayjim I will right now!
Freewayjim 306,821 is the population of Pitt!
@FreewayBrent Thanks Brent, and thanks for turning me on to some really good tunes over the years, glad you enjoyed it!
Another fine video. I`m proud you chose the Danish artist Medina for the music. She has a great international career.
What a cute and cool little city :)

Nice video.Always wanted to go to Pittsburgh.
I like how it is performed better!
You're right about the Squirrel Hill Tunnel being a bottleneck. I get caught near there every time I come into Pitt from the east.
They are doing construction along stretches of I-70 between the Turnpike and 79, including new flyover ramps connecting 79 North (from Morgantown) to 70 just east of Washington City. Also seeing construction in pockets on 70 through Washington and Westmoreland counties.
Great video, Jim. I want to visit Pittsburgh again I went there twice
5:00 damn the sky is so beautiful!
I always enjoy your videos! One small caption update: At 1:20, should reference PA-65.

@lakebay972 You're welcome! as always, thanks for watching.
@eluko79 Thanks, glad you liked it, I lucked out with those skies.
Awesome!
@2007markb Thanks, Sounds like an adventure back then. For filming purposes, as much as I love the city, it's one of the most difficult I've seen with regards of turning around and such.
I've been to New Jersey a lot; their highways tend to confuse the heck out of me.
@Trionixxx Thank you! much appreciated.
Love this. Where would this insanity rank for you, Jim, in relation to KC and Nashville? :)
I don't really unbderstand the question, Pittsburghs antiquated road system is interesting but not always easy to get around unless traffic is light, that pretty much goes for any large city.
@luigi5256 Thanks, the next 5 are done and came out pretty good.
@ScrewdUPClickV2 Thanks! yeah there's lots of cool stuff to see there (you forgot the tunnel, lol)
@writer125 I'm a Patriots fan, how do you think I feel at the moment? :)
@gladef Thank you, I liked that song the first time I heard it, it was just a matter of tim before I would use it in a video.
Way to go!
That was a great looking and amazing video. I'm just curious though, does anything ever happen at Heinz Field? Anything worthwhile? Probably not.
@writer125 Lots of wonderful things happen at Heinz Field, such as your favorite team getting demolished, and the home team passing around Hunt Trophies every January.
@writer125 LOL, Heinz field eh, they only use it 15 days a year or so :)

@1xoirc Thanks, I'd recommend it.
@colinstu I tried that and did not like how it looked, it brought more attention to it.
Wondering what kind of camera do you use and how is it mounted on your dash?

Oh and btw, thanks!
@danie123182 I was told they are going to take it down and replace it in the next few years.
still cant wait to walk into my apt in pittsburgh, and still looking for the high rise apt building owned by hacp
Yes, you're right. Absolutely nothing happens there. It's just......a field.....
@Freewayjim You welcome Jim.
Having driven on Pennsylvania highways myself over years, I believe PA's best stretch of road is the I-84 linking 380 in Scranton to the PA/NY/NJ border at Matamoras. All the others... meh.
@bsdpowa Ah, gotcha, and that's a good question!
a crumbling bridge in Pennsylvania? How unusual ;)
NJRoadfan this coming from someone that lives in shit jersey
1:22, PA-65 not OH-65.
The rest of Pennsylvania's Interstates aren't built any differently than any other state.
@danie123182 The federal government said they didn't have enough money to help PennDOT replace the Greenfield Bridge, and instead gave them pocket change to build the "dummy" bridge under it. The Greenfield Bridge is going to be demolished and replaced in December 2014.

i know but i-279 i-376 are the same interstates
Nope they are not - they go to different places and in direction directions tho
Pennsylvania's expressways are so confusing. lol
My GPS blew a gasket the first time I tried it in Pittsburgh.
Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm not a Steelers fan and I don't care for Rothlisberger either.
cpmedia,freeway brent and you....
Rather going EAST
