Meru National Park is one of the best places in Kenya to see the Big 5 in the wilderness. Meru is also a birdwatchers’ paradise, with over 400 species recorded.
IKWETA Safari Camp offers its guests a number of optional excursions in the vicinity or proximity of the Camp. Excursions include:
- a 2 hour hike up up Gatwe (“Skull”) Hill to enjoy panoramic views of the entire Meru Conservation Area
-The Nyambene excursion that takes you to around 2,500m - through small market centres and farmlands of scenic landscapes where some of the best quality tea in the world is grown for export
-The Magado Crater [also known as “Igombe” among the Meru people] is situated at the north-eastern tip of the Nyambene range of hills. The lake at the bottom of the crater is a spectacular splendor of patches of colour - with dark purple, bright red and green being dominant. Parts of the lake evaporate to form soda salt crust.
