You are awesome!!! Been at this for months. I’m no where near experienced on this but I was given the equipment and wanted to make the best out of it but no other tutorial seemed to work for me until I found yours. Great job! And. Thank you for helping inexperienced users like myself. 🎉👏🏼👏🏼 I am connected to my new router as I write this! 🙌🏻
Thanks for the video. I have been trying to get this BASIC connection going for last few days and was not having any luck by watching so many other youtube videos. You got me going....you are a genius man.
I do have a problem and you may know the answer----I have my router connected to ISP (FA0/0) and port FA0/1 connects to my Switch. Fa0/1 has DHCP setup. I get an IP on my laptop BUT I am unable to telnet or PING to my switch IP. I can telnet to router no problems. Any ideas?
@@gesusdube Switches by default do not have IP address assigned. However, to manage a switch using telnet, you have to setup an IP address for the management interface: int vlan1. From a global config mode, run : interface vlan1 ip address and give an address from the same range and mask for example: ip address 10.1.1.2 255.255.255.0 Hope that helps! :)
Thanks for your reply...I have done exactly what you have mentioned. VLAN 1 has IP address and SNM. I will double check when I get home and let you know. Much appreciated your help. Just curious, would it possible for me to telnet my devices at home from a different location? I am obviously using Class C addresses at home and connects to ISP.
so I have my R1 connected to ISP using port FA0/0. Port FA0/1 connects to from R1 to my SW1. Now, if I want to connect SW2 as well..how can I do that? I tried creating TRUNK port on SW1 and SW2 connects them together. But when I plug my laptop to SW2, I don't get an IP address from my pool!!! Any ideas?
Can you help I would like to connect to this new network through ip. like connect to the Cisco switch over the IP that I gave to it from my home network?
I really apologize. It's been a while I haven't done anything Cisco RS. Now at work, I am mostly involved in Office 365 / Microsoft administration tasks. Even Cisco, I am now involved in Cisco voice, for which I had no prior knowledge and I am still learning. I am sorry again. For the OBS part, all my videos that I am recording on my computer are in OBS. However, for live demonstrations, like connecting the router, switch, or recently replacing a disk on a physical server, I can't do these in OBS. Thanks for the suggestion though
I connected to the router or the switch via putty using telnet after I have set an IP for the router and interface Vlan1 (Switch management virtual interface). Before that, I connected directly using the serial cable
At the time of recording this video, I did not know OBS exist. Also, I needed to record the hardware connection and cabling, not just the screen capture, this is why I used the camera instead. Thanks for the advice man.

I have a Cisco Router 1921 with 2 GigEthernet ports can I connect this to my Cisco 3560 Switch with fastethernet ports without any issues?
Thanks for the video,
do I need a cross over cable from my ISPs router to my cisco router?
Not really. the home ISP router has NAtting feature but also has switching capabilities, this is why a straight copper is enough
@@-schooloflife9402 Thank you

I don't know buddy. I am more focused on Microsoft technologies in my daily work and personal learning life. I am sorry
how loud is this router? is it just loud even under no stress? is it worth it to have such a beast of a router at home?
It's for testing and experimenting to practise for exams. They're not for home use. There's a lot of Cisco technology driving the internet.
hello i have the same routet i found a firmware for update thanks
every thing is right but how did you connect through putty when there is no ip for the
router?
