    I struggle with vetiver so this is definitively not for me but I appreciate Chanel for bringing out new extraits while at the same time Guerlain seems to be making their extraits disappear. At least in their more accessible 30ml format.
    Somebody already mentioned it in the chat but I’m also waiting for 31 Rue Cambon as an extrait. Oh God, can you imagine?! 😍
    Thanks for the video, Mr P!

    I thought the Sycomore EDT was bomb! So the EDP always smells a bit disappointing to me. If the extrait goes down te soft vanillic route I probably won't like it much as I so appreciate the raspy bracing and mineral greenness of vetiver.
    I love Fat Electrician though! It's so deliciously quirky. Like high quality vetiver drowned in bourbon ;)
    Thank you Persolaise, also for Episode one with the lavender, one of my favorite ingredients in perfumery!

    I have arrived at the stage of perfume collecting where I selfishly root against expensive new releases-my wallet cries out-so was hoping our host would dash the bottle against the wall or somesuch. Alas.

      Ah, no, no - it is a commendable piece of work. But perhaps not a must-have.

      @@Persolaise Relieved to hear it. I haven’t tried any version of Sycomore, so the extrait sounds like an unlikely place to start. Thanks once again. You’re an absolute treasure in this community and your channel is a salve to my ragged nerves these days.

    It makes sense that Chanel would add new facets to the Sycomore formula. After all, vetiver is quite a domineering ingredient. Constructing an extrait of Sycomore without extending its formula would cause the vetiver to be all the more dominant; you may as well just wear vetiver oil neat at that point. But, as per your description, it sounds like they successfully softened the vetiver without losing the core DNA of Sycomore. I am glad they were able to strike that balance. Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to experience it myself someday.

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  Год назад

      Thanks for watching. Yes - and I suppose they may have taken the line that an extrait would appeal more to female customers, and so they might have thought they need to make the formula more ‘feminine’.

    I love vetiver on others, but not on myself. Somehow I pick up the swampiness on myself but not at a little distance. Sycamore edp is lovely. Bois des Iles and 31 Rue Cambon are still my favorites. So excited about the comment of an upcoming 31 Rue Cambon extrait!

    10:55 40% of essential oils in edt, allegedly! although perfumes getting darker with time usually means methyl anthranilate reacting with aldehydes and vanillin, not necessarily coming from eos

    I love Sycomore. Strangely they produced a ‘limited edition’ box recently and had displays at their outlets eg Selfridges and John Lewis which had the bottle displayed with gold sycomore leaves on a stand but no box. So I asked to see the ‘special’ box and it was just the standard Chanel box with thin wood veneers stuck to the sides. It was a bit rubbish so perhaps they had decided to hide the finished product. Perfume inside presumably the same.

    If you love vetiver... I know we give Jo Malone a lot of (well deserved) criticism, but Jo Malones Vetiver and Golden Vanilla is beautiful. To me, their only scent worth owning.. haha. I will be trying the extrit of Sycamore. I didn't love the EDP but why not!

    For what it’s worth, I picked up a partial of an edt bottle once that (seemingly) had aged to smell like the edp version. The dry, grassy effervescence and ‘darkness’ present in the opening of the edt had given way to that nutty character of concentrated/aged vetiver oil present in the edp. The edt when fresh smells ‘sexier’ to my nose compared to the edp. I sold the partial bottle on 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Those 200ml Chanel jugs 🤩 I do love Sycomore EDT and EDP. I have yet to smell any Chanel extraits!! I have not always had the best experiences in the more pretentious boutiques so I don’t feel like having a salesperson hawk around me while I try them. Some day…

    I have all of the original Chanel EDT exclusives plus one EDP (Boy, which I love). and although Sycamore seemed to be the favorite among fans along with a few others like Bois des Iles and Cuir de Russie, it was never my favorite although I admire it but am not going to purchase the parfum. I do have the parfum in Cuir De Russie, Bois des Isles and 1932, but don.t feel the need to add Sycamore. I would add Le Leon and 1957 if they ever did any of them on extrait version.🎉
