Refleks is the other thing I will mention. It is dark and wet on Norway, and the roads are narrow. Clas Ohlson (or Ebay) sell small flashing light to put on your clothes. They are the best!
You forgot to mention the fact that it's required by law to use the "refleks", failure to do so at dark nights could run you an expensive ticket(if seen by the police). So it's not just a smart idea to use, it's mandatory.

Hi Cris! There is a small tuition fee yes, it's around 50€ per semester. :) At least for international students from inside Europe. Outside Europe I'm not really sure.
Cool! Apparently it's free for international student too. We just need to pay 600 kr per semester to the student organization welfare. Although as international student, I need to proof that I have 104, 000 DKr for one year which is a little expensive! I did my BA in design at Goldsmiths for free!

I'm from the Netherlands and grew up with drop (= Dutch for lakris) as a sweet and was always sad to never find it in other countries! Dutch people are just oddly similar to Norwegians. I don't get why, as the landscape, history, everything is so different. But somehow Norwegians and dutch people ended up having very similar mindset. I found myself explaining dutch people to other foreigners all the time while living there. One of the theories I've heard for Norwegian and Dutch being similar is because we are both maritime nations. Ships and trade has always played an important part in our societies. Huge numbers of Norwegians e.g. worked on Dutch Merchant ships and emigrated to the Netherlands in the 1700-1800s. Many Norwegian words related to ships are dutch in origin. E.g. a war ship in Norwegian is "Orlogs skip", but the Norwegian word for war is "krig", so until I came to the Netherlands I never understood what this odd word "Orlog" came from ;-) Many place names on the coast where I grew up are named after the dutch. Stuff like "the dutch path", "the dutch bay" etc. It was related to the areas where dutch ships came to pick up timber from Norway. And both countries fostered a emphasis on cooperation due to geography. Like in the Netherlands you got the polder model right, because everybody in the polder had to cooperate to avoid flooding. In Norway the mountains, fjords and forests divided the country so much that it was very hard for central government to enforce its power. Thus cooperation between people became important, because there was no central government to effectively settle disputes.

I know that in Rotterdam we have a church called ''Noorse Zeemanskerk / Sjømannskirken'', and in Antwerp there is such a church as well (which is now Belgium but it used to be a Dutch city until the mid 19th century) with a small Norwegian community that owns that church. And obviously Rotterdam and Antwerp are big ports in Europe. I also know that Norway and the Netherlands are two of the few places in Europe where you can do maritime studies such as maritime law. And the theory about local cooperation due to geographical issues makes a lot of sense too, I never thought about that. In the Netherlands we also have a place called Bergen. Ok, it's a tiny insignificant village, not a big important Hanseatic town like the Norwegian Bergen, but still ;) I used to not understand where the notion that the Dutch / Norwegians are so direct came from, until I got a friend from Finland. She's a lovely person, but she often twists and turns her words in such a way to sound the least ''offending'' and to not directly pinpoint what she is talking about. An example: Friend: This one woman I know, likes wine a lot. Me: Oh. Well, my mom likes wine a lot as well. Friend: Yeah, but this woman likes it a lot. Me: Oh, so she's an alcoholic? Friend: *looks at me in utter shock* um.. well.. yeah.. um.. I mean.. And that's when I realised that's what they might mean with ''The Dutch are so direct!'' :'D

Question. Between 45 and 50 thousand Euros is the equivalent of about 50 to 62 thousand AMERICAN dollars. My question is, are you talking about it being quite a lot of money for people with menial jobs like restaurant work or baristas or are you talking about professional jobs like for doctors ? Because if the latter is the case then , NO darling. this yearly income is unbelievably low when doctors command a yearly salary of about four times that amount in the States. Please clarify the type of jobs you are referring to.
Alcohol is expensive, yes... But it's not inexpensive to rent a car either :) Furthermore you cannot bring back very large quantities of alcohol to Norway... So... I doubt you save much, if anything, by going to Sweden - unless you by chance are in Sweden for other reasons (And Vinmonopolet closes at 3pm on Saturdays) ;)

The trick is you got to have a large surface of your foot on the surface at all times. Don't walk in a manner where only small sections of your feet are touching the ice. Also if it is really slippery, I just kind of skate with my shoes. Anyway there are Norwegians who for some reason never figured out how to walk on ice, like my brother ;-) He does actually walk like a peguin hahaha.

Recipe for good lutefisk.. Lutefisk, offcourse :-) The bacon in small pieces. Potatoes, CUT some onion. And a nice fish sauce of your preffered taste. And last but most importantly!!! Throw away the lutefisk. :-) thats the key to a good meal. 😎

beer sale closes 2000 weekdays, 1800 on saturdays, closed sundays. Vinmonopolet(liquor stor) closes 1800 weekdays, and 1600 on saturdays.

Question. Between 45 and 50 thousand Euros is the equivalent of about 50 to 62 thousand AMERICAN dollars. My question is, are you talking about it being quite a lot of money for people with menial jobs like restaurant work or baristas or are you talking about professional jobs like for doctors ? Because if the latter is the case then , NO darling. this yearly income is unbelievably low when doctors command a yearly salary of about four times that amount in the States. Please clarify the type of jobs you are referring to.

Alcohol is expensive, yes... But it's not inexpensive to rent a car either :) Furthermore you cannot bring back very large quantities of alcohol to Norway... So... I doubt you save much, if anything, by going to Sweden - unless you by chance are in Sweden for other reasons (And Vinmonopolet closes at 3pm on Saturdays) ;)

@@angel_inanna depending on your nationality. different rules for different nationalities. scandi people, nordic people, eu-countries, and the rest of the world. it´s a high cost country, so living here as a foreigner without a job is difficult/impossible/illegal unless you can support yourself economically while applying for a job. as far as i know, norwegian authorities will require documentation from you, where you have to prove you will not be an economic burden to the norwegian state.

Thought the walking on ice thing was pretty wierd though, it's not that difficult? I might be biased on this though. ..
it depends on how slippery the ice is, but also how clumsy you are.. I have sixteen years of experience but I tend to lose balance a lot haha
I have seen Norwegians walk on ice like it's nothing.. and then I do it and well.. let's just say I'm not very good at it xD
Yeah it probably gets easier with experience :)
The trick is you got to have a large surface of your foot on the surface at all times. Don't walk in a manner where only small sections of your feet are touching the ice. Also if it is really slippery, I just kind of skate with my shoes.
Anyway there are Norwegians who for some reason never figured out how to walk on ice, like my brother ;-) He does actually walk like a peguin hahaha.

Hi! I know a bit of Norwegian yes. I'm still learning though. I think it depends on you. If you are really dedicated and motivated to learn norwegian you will do it in no time :) I dont have a norwegian passport and I dont need one since I am from Europe :)

I am from Europe so I just needed to prove I have a job, and a adress, and register in the police, etc.. and now I have my Norwegian number and documents yes :) I will definitely want to stay in Norway. Dont know if I want to stay forever but for a long time yes! :)
