I'm so glad Steve Earle left Nashville and Re-Located to NYC. Nashville is the country music capital of the USA and if country music is about telling the truth, they forgot how to do that. Kudos to you Steve for not being afraid to stand up and tell the truth!
Steve Earle continues to speak out for those who cannot find their own voices. God bless him not only for this but for continuing to tell the truth about life's failures.
I've always loved this song but this is the first time I've seen the video and man, it is powerful. I'm a 55 yr old man and I just burst out in tears during the scene of the homeless man eating from the garbage can. This happens way to often and there is no good reason why with the wealth and abundance we have in North America. So sad and so, so wrong. Btw if anyone is interested this video was written and directed by Tim Blake Nelson, the short silly con who went on the lam with Clooney in the Oh Brother film. What a talented guy. Kudos.
Once again the Grand Duke of New York. Speaks and tells the tales of those without a voice, the disenfranchised, the forgotten, those without hope who are passed by and rarely seen. Keep Rockin' Steve but, above all keep telling the truths! "If you don't have nothing to say get off the fu**in' stage."
I heard this song many of times but did not realize it was Steve Earl. No wonder I liked to so well. If this doesn't tug at your heart strings...nothing will.
I don't usually listen to Indie Artist Videos on here but this one was to good to pass up. I rank this one as one of the best Indie Artist Video Ive seen on here. Very emotional and had a good impact on what life is like for those invisible Americans that people keep passing by and never seeing.
SE reflects what's around him, he's living in NYC now so it's homeless issues, when he was in Nashville it was Guitar Town and on and on. He's a musical mirror
Steve Earle continues to prove that he is the best. Even without a video he paints the picture in your your mind. Go to one of his shows if you ever get the chance.
Steve Earle is the best songwriter I have ever heard. I like this new song. I wish you wellness and happiness, Steve. I have no idea what to do personally about life and all it's turns and burn marks, however I find alot of inner strenght and hope, somewhow , as I listen to Steve. I enjoy all of his songs. He makes great records too. I wish you great success. I'm a real fan. No one inspires other songwroters as much as Steve and Dylan, True Art, True songs, truth man. yeah.
Steve Earle. Larger than life. From success to the depths of crushing heartbreak and abject hopelessness and addiction, broken relationships and the death of a Son to the Rebirth of the man that stands before us today!!! If ever I've witnessed a true to life version of A Miracle it is definitely Steve! A heart so pure that his music often hurts to listen to...
Steve's genius just continues to pour out of his soul like water from a jug. As he does through his music, he deeply touches my soul in the process. Thanks for all the great music through the years, Steve. PLEASE don't ever stop.
On a way to the Steve Earle concert last night we saw a homeless girl, we were at the lights I opened the window, the lights changed, she came from her sitting position to the car window and thanked us for the money, then we went onto the concert and our reward was seeing Steve Earle singing Invisible.
I hate this song but love it to tears even more it really touches my heart and give it a squeeze I wish that one day I will be able to help all those people that don't have roofs over their heads. I feel really guilty when I can't help people in these conditions and it breaks my heart little by little
i have seen angels first hand, and they were disguised as homeless men. you never know who your REALY dealing with, so treat all with the respect you would treat Jesus
Being invisible isn't just about the need for government programs, shelter, and adequate mental health care. It's also about how we allow a person to be invisible. Let's recognize we make people invisible when we treat them as if they're not there. We don't need a program to be a friend or neighbor. We don't need programs to be in relationship - mutual - not just us serving and them receiving - that continues the separation. And, we need the means and infrastructure to help.
I've been in the situation like this where I felt so invisible to the world, it takes time to get back on your feet and i'm still struggling to this day even when I have roof over my head, thank you for making this video,
"I measure a person on the way he treats those who can do nothing for him".....Beautiful words my friend. Simply beautiful and a concept I agree with wholeheartedly."People will not remember you for the things you have said to them, they will not remember you for the things you have done for them,They will only remember you for how you made them feel."........Author Unknown.
Steve knows the street...hes been there...Lookin forward to the new album...God bless ya Steve.....Hope your tour brings you back to Lindsay Ontario... LW
Another amazing piece of art from the greatest of ALL TIME and I'll stand on Bob Dylan and Townes' coffee table and shout it out that way! Peace and Love to Steve Earle
Excellent video, directed by Tim Blake Nelson, who wrote and directed the film, Leaves Of Grass. Steve's part in that film was written specifically for him by Nelson.
omg. I was just at a workshop last night with Mark Holvath (he of the Invisible People website) and am a director for a Tacoma, WA nonprofit named "The Forgotten Sole" working with our forgotten and invisible souls on a one-on-one basis.
Occasionally I play a Steve Earle song on my guitar, and sometimes I think I might even sound a bit ok. Then I listen to Steve play a song like this one, and I know that really I'm just shit :)
I pretty much lean towards anarcho-capitalism, libertarianism, Ayn Rand's objectivism, and atheism, yet I find Steve Earle's music exhilarating. This latest video really hits home as Steve now lives in Greenwich Village where I spent some time in the 1960s. He captures a certain aspect of NYC rarely seen.
I usually recommend I Feel Alright and El Corazon, though if you are more into roots music, start with Train A Comin and The Mountain which are more folk and bluegrass, respectively.
Most people do acts of charity with no recognition whatsoever. Sure, there are shallow celebrities who want the photo op, but even then it may encourage others to act. In any case, this is a video for a thoughtful song that raises awareness not a photo op.
to quote Metallica... this song is Sad but True..... Pretending these people aren't there doesn't make them go away or change their unfortunate circumstances, it's an unfortunate reality. We don't know their life stories and how they came to be in these tragic situations. Lack of humanity makes me sad.
I agree completely, we need personal outreach as well as good programs. But if you were responding to my comments below, I was responding to someone who argued individual acts of charity are enough.
i visit down town atl all the time..it sickness me to hear someone tell some one to get a job...i always carry my spare change and will give it out...if a guy or gal is on the streets for anytime..they cant just go and get a job...no one will hire them....if you are ever in the atl go behind the marta station there are like 50 or more homeless people back there...i talked to one of them...he had a brain operation and he sang for me and i gave him some money ..
Way to go man! I've been homeless, may be headed that way again soon! Folks like you can make a whole day seem kinder in a way! Peace...
I'm so glad Steve Earle left Nashville and Re-Located to NYC. Nashville is the country music capital of the USA and if country music is about telling the truth, they forgot how to do that. Kudos to you Steve for not being afraid to stand up and tell the truth!
A true poet, Steve. Lives it, then sings it...
This should be on every TV, every minute, every second. This should play on every radio
Amen Brother, he'll yes it should.
Steve Earle continues to speak out for those who cannot find their own voices. God bless him not only for this but for continuing to tell the truth about life's failures.
Anyone who has ever lived on the streets and fallen between the cracks knows how being invisible feels.
I've always loved this song but this is the first time I've seen the video and man, it is powerful. Steve always leaves his heart and soul in every song. This is no exception.
Bare wires, naked truth... Steve Earle. Stunning, brave, open-hearted.
God, how I love Steve Earle's songs. This one, as they all do, strikes at the heart.
I heard this song many of times but did not realize it was Steve Earl. No wonder I liked to so well. If this doesn't tug at your heart strings...nothing will.
Not that I know a darn thing at all, but here folks is a true legendary songwriter. all the very best, Steve.

Again, the best living songwriter on the planet.

Well, I'm crying now. Steve has always turned the spotlight of his truth on our deepest shames.
This is why Steve Earle is my hero.
Steve's genius just continues to pour out of his soul like water from a jug. As he does through his music, he deeply touches my soul in the process. Thanks for all the great music through the years, Steve. PLEASE don't ever stop.
Steve Earle Rocks

Leanne Patrick 😍
I have loved his music since GT, but he was a shell of the man he is today. What a great video and song. I will have to buy this.
always a fan but he does seem to a lot deeper and more soulful than when he was younger.
It's sad the world doesn't stop for one person. It appears that way and yet this song exists. Good stuff.
Invisible is too sad for words! Thanks Steve!
I hate this song but love it to tears even more it really touches my heart and give it a squeeze I wish that one day I will be able to help all those people that don't have roofs over their heads. i have seen angels first hand, and they were disguised as homeless men. you never know who your REALY dealing with, so treat all with the respect you would treat Jesus
happy to see Steve back into the social genre. Gods bless you, steve!
beautiful and marvelous song of Steve who pointed us on a problem about the homeless ppl al over the world.

Not a bad song and it has a very nice rhythm and fiddle but Dylan already wrote THE song on the subject.
Just amazing
