- City of Sydney Councillor Linda Scott says local governments are “under pressure”.
This comes amid questions of the local government and its spending priorities.
“More generally, local governments are under pressure,” Ms Scott told Sky News host Paul Murray.
“More than ever before, they’re much more reliant on federal government funding.
“Local governments run about a third of the nation's infrastructure on four per cent of the nation’s tax take.”
Linda Scott is a city person who just doesn’t understand the bush. The answer isn’t more transfers from the Federal government. The answer is to stop giving her City of Sydney huge grants😮
Atleast one layer of government needs to be abolished in this country.
Both do, liberal and labour need to go, wake up!

In the end it was not about that species. That species was about demonstrating the extinction of a species that ambitioned a mechanism to contend with cosmic pressures to persist in existence the relative order of life beyond the confines of its stellar habitat. The species would provide ruins and records which indirectly depicted its rise and downfall. A newer species would emerge and follow a different path to achieve the same goals. A path that would share no likeness to the path followed by the incorrect species.
Remove council from existence. Break the states up into many small states and reduce their power, their scope and their responsibilities. Federalize major government responsibilities.
It's not perfect, but the mess we have now is out of control.
Can't do that federal government have complete control means the end of the Australian constitution
@tomjones5338 I know. I'm wondering if it's time for some constitutional reform, though. Believe me, I think Canberra overall is full of worthless grubs - but our federation isn't working for us. It's not cost effective, it's not achieving unified goals and we are so deeply overly governed. I don't know what else to do?
Local govt should be abolished - we need fewer snouts in the trough
