    Avarsarala is a great character in both the books and show, and Shohreh Aghdashloo acted the crap out of that role. Her voice is so unique and she is the very definition of a handsome older woman.
    -Mars has areas where immigrants from India and Texas mingled, so there are cowboys like Alex Kamal who are ethnically descendant from India.

    And this is where Expanse really shows you what kind of show it is - one that will show you in a realistic way just how dangerous life in space could be. The debris from the Canterbury's destruction damaging Holden and Co.'s shuttle is one of the first big demos of that, as is their desperate struggle to make repairs while low on air so they can signal someone - anyone - for help.
    Shoreh Aghdashloo is an amazing actress - I already knew her from her background voiceover role in Mass Effect 2 and 3, but this show really puts her in a spotlight and I'm so thankful for that.

    HAHAHAHA “It’s a good thing she’s here, cuz everyone else is acting a fool.” A perfect reaction to Naomi Fuckin Nagata! I’m so stoked that you’re watching this fantastic show that for real does the incredibly rich world of the books Justice. There was a lot of love poured into making this series, and it shows. Thanks for reacting to it! 🙏

    Amos told Holden that he couldn't determine whether or not it would be appropriate to kill Holden...he depended on Naomi's guidance. When Amos was holding a gun to Holden's head, he again looked to Naomi to give him the word. In every situation, we see Amos watching for Naomi's reaction.
    Alex keeps a picture of a woman and child. While he was hypoxic, he was mumbling one side of an argument, "I'll be back after one more run."
    When Miller and Havelock caught the young kid, the kid talked about the big gangsters having left Ceres.
    If you watch the opening sequences, you see things that indicate the results of climate change. For instance, the scene of the globe at night shows only a few lights in the area of Florida...because Florida is mostly submerged.
    Oh, and here are some deleted scenes from the first episode. No spoilers here, but just a bit more world-building exposition than this series will usually give the audience. ruclips.net/video/OkfMWOnMiuY/видео.htmlsi=neU6DDXpFklabkYS

    One of the many things that this series gets right is that due to light-speed lag, it takes time for a message to travel from one place to another, necessitating sending video-grams to one another with cooldown time while you wait for a response.

  • @Bayard1503
    @Bayard1503 7 месяцев назад +2

    "How did they put them on this far away places?" ... nobody forced them. It's human nature, many people want to explore, that's how we conquered the globe. Just look how many volunteers there are for these private missions to space, Moon and even Mars.
    The Expanse is the most realistic futuristic show I've seen... you can literally see our world going this route. With politicians being more and more populist, with AI and automation, people will lose their jobs faster then they can relearn a new one. So that breeds frustrations, tensions in society but at the same time all these people have a vote so they will keep choosing populists that will subsidize their voters... it's a vicious cycle that could happen. A minority of people will not settle for a stagnant society of this sort and will go to space. The Belters and the Martians are simply a product of their environment...

    • @Yesquire0
      @Yesquire0 7 месяцев назад

      A "populist" is a politician who promises to end handouts to the ultra rich and their corportations and dismantle the mechanisms within the government which make that flow of money from the poor to the rich easy and constant. For those reasons "populist" is used as an insult to denigrate anybody with the gonads to publicly fight the elites within a society.

    Belters are descendants of the original asteroid miners (Rock Hoppers) sent out by Earth corporations to mine asteroids for resources. I don't know how many generations separate them, but enough time has passed to develop a culture and their own creole language. The physical differences are more apparent in the books where most Belters resemble the guy that Avasarala was torturing, tall and lanky due to growing up in low gravity.
    The Belter language is pretty cool, particularly the terms that are unique to their space environment. A couple of my favorite terms are Welwala, meaning someone who prefers the gravity wells of the inner planets, Earth and Mars, hence a traitor to the Belt.
    Another term is "Felota" which roughly translates as "Floater" as in "When the felota hits the fan..."

    To help yourself: 1) take lots of notes, and 2) look up the place names like Ceres in an astronomy text, or on Wikipedia. The places on the whole in this series are real.

    In the Belt, if you don't care to drink all of the water in the glass you pour it back. Remember that these are people who are only one missed water delivery away from riots and they even ration the water for bathing.

    For a Belter to pull a piece of fungus off of a wall and eat it is about the same as somebody on Earth pulling an apple off of a tree and eating it.

    Steven Strain said in one interview that James Holden's first-season character arc could be described as a man's search for a good cup of coffee. Being from Earth Holden knows what coffee ought to taste like, and his lover is telling him how to make Belter coffee taste like real coffee (most Belter foodstuffs are fungus-based).

    Mars has a tech advantage over Earth not because it is a military power, but because it is a scientific juggernaut. They are in the processs of terraforming a planet to make it welcoming to human life. That deam, that effort, has attracted all sorts of great scientists to Mars, and they, in turn, have come up with all sorts of inventions that make a difference in the lives of people. Some of them are in the area of weapons and spaceship design. A lot of the U.N. fleet is old but still in service. The MCRN fleet is modern by comparison and despite being smaller in numbers, each ship is better.
