  • A chapter by chapter, verse by verse, study of the book of Isaiah.
In chapters 32 on through chapter 35 we have a progression in prophecy. I want to encourage you to read through the whole section.
In this chapter we have the coming King, the coming tribulation and the coming Spirit.
In verses 1 through 8 we see the King who is to reign, we are introduced again to Jesus Christ, and His government of justice and peace. There can be no real peace and justice apart from Him.
In the previous chapter, God assured Judah that the Assyrians would be judged, and Judah would be delivered. But God didn’t want only to remove the threat; He also wanted to bless Judah with a righteous king, so the promise was made.
The near fulfillment is King Hezekiah, and likely King Josiah, the great-grandson of the present king of Judah, Hezekiah, who reigned during the Assyrian threat. Josiah was a righteous king.
The king in the far fulfillment here is none other than Jesus Christ the King of Kings, and the character of His reign is righteousness. The Messiah embodies righteousness. The world has never seen a kingdom like this. There has never been a completely righteous kingdom. It would have to have a completely righteous king.
And princes will rule with justice: More than just having a righteous king. The king will have His executives, His vice-regents under him, who will also rule with justice. His princes are those that He has made kings and priests, and we shall rule the earth. We will rule with Him when He comes to reign. We will be blessing others. These princes stand in contrast to the unrighteous princes of Judah who advocated alliance with Egypt. We will rule in righteousness because of Him.
