  • A chapter by chapter verse by verse study of the book of Isaiah
You may remember in our past chapters Israel is going through sever trials. They are worried about their enemies, famine, and destruction, and they are blaming God instead of taking responsibility for their own actions. God has reminded them though the prophet Isaiah that there will be punishment for disobedience, but that He love them and as His children He would protect them and preserve them.
As we finished chapter 41, God through the prophet Isaiah was speaking of His servant that He would raise up. It was Cyrus His servant that He called by name. Now as we get into chapter 42 He is going to speak of another servant, His righteous servant Jesus Christ, “He came as a servant not to be served, but to serve…” and he will speak of His servant Israel. There are several servants portrayed here. Then there is another condemnation of Idolatry.
And now Isaiah begins to prophesy concerning Christ the Servant of God, and the redeemer of Israel. Verses 1-7 are about the servant Jesus, then 8-17 is the scourge of idolatry and then in 18 through 25 the servant of Jehovah, Jacob the nation.
