South Carolina is doing it the best way it can be done. They are recruiting high school. Keeping their core players from jumping into portal & supplementing outgoing seniors & draft eligible with the portal.
Quite frankly the media and the adults have convinced the kids that the Bowls don’t count and are meaningless. The Bowls are important to the college institutions and the students. I’m with Coach JB, we have failed these kids. I was raised to think of team first not me. These kids are a reflection of our culture and our culture is selfish as hell.
I really enjoy listening to Steve Kim. He is probably the most level headed Canes fan out there and makes alot of sense when talks. I had no problem Cam sitting the 2nd half. The bowl game was a glorified scrimmage
His percentage chance of getting injured was 0.1%. That’s the stat on injured bowl players. PLUS , Ward WAS NOT getting pressured in the first half. He was standing like a statue in the pocket. This chance of injury excuse is a joke
My Solution.. 1. Power 5 institutions should have high risk accident insurance for injuries occurred during bowl games (team payout should be applied to the career ending injury along with policies (Lloyds of London) taken out for exceptional star athletes 2. Institute stringent transfer credits and declaring of major for rising juniors and above (3.0 and above with credits in the major) for transfers. 3. Penalize institutes with remedial retention rates (I. e schools that have high % of transfers gain scholarships) while schools that receive transfers loose scholarships…This will eliminate the transfer portal.
Umm there are 2 former PAC12 schools in the playoffs, both of which went into new conferences that they won both the regular season and the conference championship AND one of which is the only team that went undefeated this past season.
Steve is absolutely right. It was one play where the receiver motioned on Iowa State and you can tell Miami was playing Man, but then the Safety came up to play on the outside receiver. I was sitting here like, this has to be the players not knowing how to play. The IQ is terrible.
Winning that bowl game for your brothers and seniors leaving the program dont matter guys. These games dont matter to the guys with money. How pothetic and selfish sports have gotten
Bro these games should matter! This is an opportunity for guys to show what they can do against talent they don’t usually see. On top of that, YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME! Bro I get mad if I lose a game of uno. Cmon man.
Coaches and the schools will never say no to the bowl games regardless if they know the games are useless or not. There is too many extra practices involved and too much money involved. Especially conference money being passed around. When they started letting 6 win teams be bowl eligible and had 63,990 bowl games, they became irrelevant. These are not bowl games, they are business. That’s it.
Couldn’t be further from the truth. Lower tier bowl games can be a net negative financially. They are paying for the travel, hotels, food, entertainment etc. for not just players by the staff and administrators.
@ they can be a net negative. But if you’re in the top 25. Your bowl game plus conference share of money from other conference bowl games. Works out. Also you missed my comment on the extra practices. It’s a total of 18 extra practices bowl teams get.
@ yes, which is why I specifically said lower tier bowl games. As for the extra practices, an AD could give a rats ass about them. He/she is only concerned about the P/L. I was a team manager for a D1 basketball program, spent many hours with our AD. Taking a loss in football, basketball could cause terminations within the academia side of the house, layoffs of administrators etc.
I wish folks would stop talking about the name of the bowl game. They are sponsors. What is the Orange Bowl named? The Capital One Orange Bowl or the Fed Ex Orange Bowl. So the mascot to the OB was a Fed Ex truck or envelope or a bank symbol.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious, clown. We all know about the sponsors, these players don't care about that they want to compete at the highest level. Y'all can be mad about Cam's decision but it really doesn't matter.
Miami made him a top 5 pick. Last year didn't have anything to do with his draft stock. He was a 3rd-4th-5th round pick as of last year at Wazzu. That's why he came to Miami - the money - because he banked on being better at Miami.
In addition….. Since these NIL athletes are representing the institution and generating income from said institution(s) they could be considered like a “patent” a device/prototype generated at that institution and the institution(s) should receive any revenue generated by the performance and representation of that device/prototype. Simply put….. if a university scientist develops a device or protocol or product on a US campus, both the scientist and campus own it and money is distributed according to “campus policy...sometimes as much as 45% !!!!”. The campus could set up a host “theft” mechanisms (I.e. indirect/direct costs) involving the athletes NIL payout and discourage the current crazy street agents we see now. The NIL income should/could also be delayed or slowly dispersed in increments (reach SS retirement age). In short….. if you treat the NIL athlete like a university academic scientist who strives to develop patents the shit-u-ation now becomes workable….
@@PoloDon-fg6sm that team was 4-0. And lost 7 of 8. Actually they went 5-7. So again, that’s not exactly great. And Cam did have WRs. Miami has next level talent. Needed a signal caller. No question. They helped each other.
