Ohio Public Land Deer Hunting

- The video is titled "Priorities" because on some level, if you want to be a successful bowhunter, you have to neglect some of your priorities of your daily life to achieve that goal. The word success is subjective to people in the hunting community. Success could mean just being in the woods or shooting a doe to some hunters, but success to me means consistently putting an arrow in a mature buck on a consistent basis, year after year. It doesn't make either meaning of the word "success" right or wrong, but peoples opinions on that word differ and that's okay. Bow season can be a grind and it requires a lot of time and energy and 2020 was no different.

This year didn't turn out the way I had in drawn up in my head. I envisioned myself sitting behind my main target buck I've been looking at through trail camera pictures all year and that just didn't happen. At the end of the day as a bowhunter, you have to live in the experience and at this particular moment, that's exactly what I did. The film shows the raw emotion and passion I have for bowhunting and what it means to live in the moment.
Follow along as we show you the commitment and the priorities neglected to finally earn the chance at a mature buck in our short film "Priorities".
This film encompasses an entire whitetail deer season: hunting the rut, bobcat spotted, coyote hunting, shooting a doe, shooting a big buck, private land hunts and public land hunts, self filmed hunts, PSE Carbon Air Stealth Mach 1, Lone Wolf Custom Gear, First Lite.

From Ohio myself, nothing like hunting in the hills of Ohio, congratulations on an awesome hunt and story.
It can be tough but it’s the most fun hunting for me when it works! Thanks for watching
@@HuntFishShootChannel I’ll be keeping up with ya for this year, it looked to be a really good year back in velvet, good luck and stay safe.
Thank you!
Nice 3.5 year old! Congrats man!
Thank you!
One of the best videos I’ve seen, great buck, great story. You worked your ass off for that buck, well deserved.
Thank you for the kind words!
Come on now are you seriously brother OMG!!!! Passing all those bucks paid off and this is why Ohio has monsters💯👍🏼💯👍🏼💯👍🏼
Thank you! It’s certainly tough at times but is always worth it!
Your wife is just like mine. She’s always the first one I always call👍🏼
This was a fun video for sure. Deer hunting definitely takes patience.
Nice hunt and buck!, Neat looking rack , Enjoyed watching ur hunt!
Thank you Mike! It was a memorable one for sure!
The patience to have shown proves though disgusted , angry etc . That a true sportsman can fill the freezer and still wait to harvest a buck of age , character and incredible beauty.
Here in pennsylvania most choose the ole saying “ if its brown its down “ , choose to brag after killing a yearling instead of waiting only to hurry to hit the cabin and buddies to cheers a few cold ones with the boys and not see those certain “ hunters “ til the following weekend and then again the last saturday of rifle season . Ive been hunting for 40 yrs and i can only hope the regulation makers would up the 3 on one side to 4 and stop the killing of yearling deer . Thank you again for proving that patience can have its benefits in harvesting an incredible buck . Congrats !
Thank you! Unfortunately many hunters follow that mantra. Patience is key for mature bucks!
Great video. Love the "do not cut, keep rolling" after the shot. I do the same. Well done. Congrats. Subscribed.
Thank you! That’s what hunting is all about!
Congrats on an awesome buck. Can't say that I've ever had that opportunity of a deer I have shot running right to me and presenting me with a second shot. I have taken second shots, but not where I hit one and it runs right to me for another shot.
I can't say I have either. Luckily he offered the second shot. If you notice the first shot was actually deflected by a small twig. The first shot was lethal and he would of died but I think he would of needed some time as it entered in slightly quartering to and exited pretty far back. The second shot is what ended him within seconds.
Wow incredible buck , you got willpower passing up that 3 year old earlier . Your in a great spot !
thank you! That's my favorite rut stand of all time!
If you haven’t already subscribed, be sure to do so because we have a bunch of awesome content on the way! Thanks again for watching!
Congrats on that beautiful deer, but I also just wanted to say great video in genera. Really good music and cinematography. It would have been entertaining to watch even if it didn’t result in getting a buck at the end.
Thanks a lot Gavin! We appreciate the compliment and we enjoyed making this! Hunting isn’t always about the kill it’s about the process and the experience. Thank you for watching, hopefully we as a group will have even more success!
Awesome buck congrats dude!!!
Thank you! It was a special one for me and one of many I saw that day 👍
Great work joe!
Thanks!
Whoever that girl was on the phone protect her at all costs lol my wife would hung up
I guess I am pretty lucky haha
Great hunt. Great videography/edit. Great buck!
I need a good camera in the tree this year. Can I ask which one you used here?
Definitely had to hit the subscribe button.
Best of luck this season!
I filmed this with a Sony A7iii
I'm from PA and plan on doing an Ohio public land challenge. Been trying to find a place to go. Wanna stay toward E/NE of state. Where about was this?
Public land in Ohio is tough, but it can be done. This is in SE Ohio!
Nicely done! Great buck. On that coyote shot...do you shoot with both eyes open? I used to not and I could never see thru my peep sight until a friend told me to shoot with both eyes open. Now I'm much better in those low light scenarios. I liked that quote by Roosevelt at the end too, I never heard that one.
Yes, I shoot with both eyes open at all times. I learned years ago when I started shooting target archery. Truth be told, I couldn’t see that coyote at all in my peep sight. Between the angle and the low light, I was basically guessing lol. Thanks for the kind words!
Which jacket were you wearing @ 8:58?
That is the First Lite Klamath Hoodie
So was it actually public or was it private?? Because in the same sentence you said your at your southern property, but on public???? And if your on public I didn't know you could screw a bow hanger into a tree. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Hey brother, thanks for the watch. Your views are appreciated! In response to your question, our property is bordered by a few very large tracts of public land and we have a cabin on the property and that’s what I was referencing. I spend a majority of my time on public land and I’ve been doing that before everyone was a “public land owner”. In regards to the screw in hanger. I’m very familiar with that law and in fact what you see in that video is a screw in hanger but I modified it in our fab shop and made a bracket where it doesn’t screw into the tree, and it uses a strap. You can’t see the strap because it’s a very thin diameter of amsteel rope and the bokeh effect I like to have in our videos, blurs the strap out. Again, thanks for the watch and hunt hard!
What did rack score?
Truthfully, just shy of 120 inches. I thought he was bigger for sure but in a situation like that, you don’t have a ton of time to make a decision
What county in Ohio do you hunt?
I hunt multiple counties. Northeastern and southeastern Ohio
@@HuntFishShootChannel northeastern Co. and southeastern Co.?😂
@@cigarettecraig I can’t give up all the goods man!
@@HuntFishShootChannel l know! That's how you kill the big ones, by the way your deer will look good on the wall congratulations!
Hearing her excitement for his kill. 💪❤
She was, probably because she knew I would be home more 😂
@@HuntFishShootChannel i feel this bro 😂
That deer came in and got your blood pumping enough for you to want to shoot him. In my opinion that’s far more important than what he scored. Awesome deer and awesome video man! 🤙
Edit: that being said hes still ten times bigger than a buck I’d consider shooting 🤣
Thanks! The rack on this guy is really unique compared to all of my others, so this made a great addition to my wall.
This guys just a killer, if you’re doin it for the filming you would be getting the kill on camera, kills a doe for fun without filming, and shoot me a coyote for fun too
Some got it and some don’t. Can’t kill ‘em from the couch. He makes me jealous too, with all that killing. But hey, you’ll get that.
The kill was on camera. The deer was eaten as well.
why did that coyote have to die
Hopefully this isn’t a serious question, if it is I will lend you with this. Coyotes are grossly overpopulated in the state of Ohio with only one predator, humans. Hunters have to thin them out for they wreak havoc on fawn, Turkey and small game populations. We never pass up an opportunity to kill a coyote when we can.
@@HuntFishShootChannel I would not say overpopulated, we need coyotes in this state. If anything squirrels are overpopulated lol
Old Ben, do you hunt Ohio on a regular basis? Second question do you work for the ODNR? The only people who think coyotes in the state aren’t overpopulated are those who don’t hunt Ohio regularly and the ODNR. If you don’t think they are overpopulated then we ask why? Squirrel season could be year around, there is a very small subsection of hunters who hunt them.
