To answer your question, “Minionese” is actually a mixture of gibberish and some real languages. For instance, they call ice cream “Gelato” in the sequel, which I’m pretty sure is Italian.

The minions count "hana, dul, set" (one, two, three) which is Korean and they say "kampai!" (cheers!) which is Japanese lol so it is indeed a mixture of different languages.
Which is a play on the Spanish word for ice cream, El elado.

Despicable Me is an instant classic when it comes to Animated Movies. Great choice and please watch the sequels.

As someone who was an 'adventurous' child, I can say that those leashes do come in handy. Though I'm glad kids of today have the harness ones like you see on this kid. In my day we only had the one that went around your wrist and it was basically like that touch material they make backpack straps and such out of... Let's just say I once tried to escape so much the skin on my wrist was rubbed RAW... Now some of you might say they shouldn't have done it, but I once literally ran away from them at Disneyland and explored the park on my own. I don't remember it but apparently I was around 4-5 at the time. They eventually found me coming off the haunted mansion. The funniest part was I was SUPER friendly as a kid and basically introduced myself to every cast member. So while we were walking back to meet the rest of my family, a few waved and said "Hi Ashley" and my parents were like 'WTF?'... Lol, I'm a prime example of someone who should have ended up kidnapped or serverely hurt as a child but miraculously wasn't.
I would have an easy solution for that. If a kid can't behave, it wouldn't be allowed outside the house till it does.

That didn't work because I was a regular Houdini. I was literally baby's day out levels of you had to watch me. That was until they were able to afford cable and discovered cartoons lol. Then I mellowed out because I got captivated by the stories. A normal girl would have had a princess movie as their favorite but I was the "Nightmare before Christmas" girl. As for why they still took me, well those Disney trips were usual kind of a "family reunion/vacation" event for us so it was always important to my grandma for the whole family to go together. It probably wasn't the best choice, but they got a few funny stories out of it and Disney will always be a place that brings joy because hearing old stories like the one I told above.
When I was a kid my mom literally tied a rope around my waist whenever we’d go out because I was so quick to wander off and in her words “fast as fuck” 😆
Whenever I bring up what kind of kid I was she stars off like I gave her Vietnam War PTSD

Whoever voiced Edith doesn't get enough recognition. In my opinion she's the funniest of the girls.

Despicable Me was an animated film that I watched pretty late and I actually found myself liking it. The sequels are pretty good too.

Despicable Me is Illumination's best movie by far. I'd even argue that the 2013 sequel is pretty great and definitely worth a watch.
Interestingly Enough, Kristen Wiig, Who Plays Ms. Hattie In This Movie, Is In All Three Movies, But She Gets A Better, Nicer, Less Warranting A Call To CPS Character In The Other Movies
Out of the three Despicable Me movies, this one is still my favorite. Its funny, sweet and creative. I'll also say the Minions are used well here. They get a little bit more exposure in the sequels which is...hmm. Anyway, glad you liked it.
Ah good old Despicable Me. Love this movie. The movie made me a fan of Steve Carell. Also fun fact Gru's mother is voiced by Julie Andrews. Yes the Mary Poppins and The Sound Of Music actress voices Gru's mother. I am not joking.
Out of all the roles Steve Carell has played over the years, Gru is his funniest role yet.

My cat is a fan. He watches Despicable me and Ice Age movies from start to finish. Other animated movies do not interest him. I don’t know what is so attractive in these 2 franchises but he is fascinated.
I love this Movie as much as Metal but it's a shame that Megamind didn't have more Movies like Despicable Me until recently it was and that Megamind is returning.

Despicable me was a great watch but the best part was him at the carnival "My turn" and then blows the stand. Him getting to love the kids and give them a home was truly nice

I love all of these Despicable movies. I've always been a fan of 'saturday morning cartoon' type villains. The ones that are evil and do evil, but aren't like...horrible type of evil. More fun, really. So I love this series. =)
I saw someone describe despicable me as basically a feature length cartoon. Which makes perfect sense with the amount of explosions and rockets the characters survive. It can have the cartoon like feel. Also your point about the villains is great. They are evil but in a more crazy way. For example they aren't terrorist leaders and murderous like more serious films. They are cartoonish villains with more crazy goals for example shrinking and stealing the moon. The exact same kind of plan villains from cartoon series would try

I don’t think many people know the orphan scene is from the old movie Annie. Except it wasn’t a box of shame it was a closet and the orphanage was way worse. If your up to it that was a great movie and you should like it.

The main villain and the man at the bank are father and son that’s how he has so much money for weapons
Dr. Nefario is hard-of-hearing, that's why he confused cookie robots for boogie robots and dart gun for fart gun. He's loyal to Gru and assumes the things he asks for, no matter what, is for a good reason even if he don't always understand what they are used for.

Some kids need leashes. A couple of years ago a local boy with autism bolted on a walk with his dad and the dad couldn't catch him. He ended up in the bottom of a near by lake. Stories like this are why I dont judge leashes on kids.
It's not a leash it's reins or a harness lol. Keeps the child safe. Love this movie

Despicable me Is so funny and fun fact it was originally called evil me and the producer casted only actors who Improvise comedy lines such as Steve carrell and Russell brand
I think the cookie robots was meant to seal the wall back up but either Gru and his two Minions took too long, therefore being locked in Vector's Fortress, or their timing was a bit off, doing it too early. The latter seems more likely to me.
What I've always found funny is that the three girls are named Margo, Edith, and Agnes. My grandmother's named Edith, her twin is named Agnes, and their younger sister is named Madeline. Also when my grandmother was little, she was just like Edith.

When I was little, my mom always had me on a child's harness and leash because we used to walk everywhere a lot and she was worried that I might be kidnapped or I might decide to run into the street and get hit by a car, if I ever get lucky enough to get pregnant that's exactly what I would do, like seat belts better safe than sorry
I'm back with another Fun Fact: Pharrell Williams composed the ENTIRE soundtrack for this movie, not just the song bad day.

I remember when this film came out on dvd I was around 15 and bought it to go to a friends sleepover. It was mostly his older brothers friends and so we wanted to watch that and the older ones wanted to watch a more serious movie. They were setting up a second TV to watch their film but before they foukd start their movie they all ended up sitting and watching this with us. Everyone laughing at it. Even now I can still watch it and enjoy it. This is a movie that you dont have to think much about just watch and enjoy. It is a true family film in the sense that anyone of any age can enjoy.
One thing I never noticed back then though typical villains have an army of henchmen which are people but they treat them like slaves and canon fodder just un-named henchmen to be gunned down by the protagonist. Gru's minions are different not just because no one dies in this movie they are not human and pretty much all look the same. Gru does not treat them like other villains would he recognises each of them individually and calls them all by their names for example Stuart and Kevin. The minions all have regular names. I also love how Gru's plan is a big theatrical plot and is kind of crazy yet they bring up the matter of funding for his plan which other films usually dont

I'm skeptical about Minions, the movie.
They aren't as cringeworthy as people make them out to be, they were kinda funny at some point.
IMO, Minions wasn't that bad, but it's kinda lazy and generic. The Minions are not nearly as funny as in the Despicable Me movies.
It's kinda weird, but i've seen worse movies out there.
So, i'm not sure as of wether you should watch it or not.

Another problem why i think this movie is lazy and generic:
The characters (the Minions) are one dimensional.
Making a movie revolving around comic reliefs is difficult.
I think it worked better with Cars 2, since Mater actually got an arc there.
Also, i know this movie wasn't well received, but if you respect my opinion on Cars 2, i'll respect yours.

Not the musics, weirdly enough, never seen that.
I just saw so many products have minions on their packaging, from candy to toys. I've even seen a minion ambulance. Happy Meals Boxes, drink cups, cakes, everything is a minion or is modified to look like one. There's even been a minion wedding.
For characters that are, like you wrote, so lazy, it's way too much.
(And I like Cars 2, don't worry!)

Anyways, another inherent flaw to this movie is that it was probably specifically made for commercial purposes.
Minion movie for me felt like a “make a movie fast so we can sell a bazillion plush toys for the holidays” type of effort to me.

The language the Minions speak in is Minionese. It is a language invented especially for this film. It is a combination of English and Gibberish.

the movie is good .... but it is so sad that its popularity killed megamind ...
Now I finished the reaction and few extra points I forgot. Gru maybe always had good in him. Like I said before he knows his minions names but also he told them to look for other employment options when he had no money. The minions then pitched it the money they had, The fact they had money and that Gru called it employment showed he actually paid his minions. Why he wants the moon is explained twice his childhood wish and to be the best villain. His mother was never proud of him but when he gave up the villain life to become a parent she was. Maybe Gru actually just wanted to be accepted. In my opinion Vector being the son of the banker makes no difference to the story. Even if they weren't related it makes sense they would want to invest their money into someone younger who has been proven to be successful.
You asked why Gru's ship had a weak point but since money is brought up in the film it could just be that Gru's vehicle was built on a budget. Vector made crazy inventions like his animal guns as he had the money to blow. Gru had to steal his shrink ray from a secret research lab
I'm not sure if you've seen it yet, but you'd probably like the prequel spin-off to this, "Minions" (2015). It focuses on their time before they end up working for Gru. Before that, they're with supervillain Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock) and her inventor husband Herb (Jon Hamm). It's about as good as this first film.

One of my favourite light-hearted animated movies. The other ones aren't as good as the first one imo..but always a joy to see this one.

Well, since the moon technically belongs to the whole Earth, all the nations have to pay Gru a humongous lot of money (probably billions or trillions) in order for him to put it back. That's the way most likely would get paid for the moon. Could also be some ultra-rich villian who'd pay a hefty sum for the moon but that's seems less likey than the former.
Grus theme music is the best in any disney movie, i think. i havent heard it yet
Fun fact the minions are actually speaking multiple languages but they don't know which to speak so they just speak whatever language.
Really they do you can put what they say into translation don't know how you would translate multiple languages into English but yeah.
