Video history | Gas chamber and crematorium I

Like in other German concentration camps, Auschwitz also had a crematorium for burning the bodies of prisoners. The crematorium at Auschwitz I was set up by the camp authorities in a building that was formerly a pre-war military storeroom. It became operational on August 15, 1940, when the initial attempt to burn bodies took place there.
