“Mănăstirea Voroneț, supranumită „Capela Sixtină a Estului”, este un complex monahal medieval construit în satul Voroneț, astăzi cartier al orașului Gura Humorului. Mănăstirea se află la 36 km de municipiul Suceava și la numai 4 km de centrul orașului Gura Humorului. Ea constituie una dintre cele mai valoroase ctitorii ale lui Ștefan cel Mare (1457-1504). Biserica a fost ridicată în anul 1488 în numai 3 luni și 3 săptămâni, ceea ce constituie un record pentru acea vreme.
De mici proporții, cu plan trilobat, având turla cu boltă moldovenească pe naos, biserica face parte dintre puținele monumente de arhitectură religioasă din nordul Moldovei care-și păstrează în mare măsură forma inițială. În anul 1547 mitropolitul Grigore Roșca, văr al lui Petru Rareș a inițiat adăugarea unui pridvor închis, pentru care adoptă o soluție unică, în cadrul căreia arhitectura este vizibil subordonată decorului pictat: peretele de vest al pridvorului este un perete plin fără nici o deschidere, precum și pictarea zidurilor exterioare, din temelie până în streașină, lucrări ce au dat construcției o mare stralucire.
Mănăstirea Voroneț a fost inclusă pe Lista monumentelor istorice din județul Suceava din anul 2015. De asemenea, lăcașul de cult este inclus în patrimoniul mondial UNESCO.
Din punct de vedere geografic, mănăstirea este situată la sud de orașul Gura Humorului din județul Suceava, pe valea râului Voroneț.”

“The Voroneț Monastery is a medieval monastery in the Romanian village of Voroneț, now a part of the town Gura Humorului. It is one of the famous painted monasteries from southern Bukovina, in Suceava County. The monastery was constructed by Stephen the Great in 1488 over a period of 3 months and 3 weeks to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Vaslui. Often known as the "Sistine Chapel of the East", the frescoes at Voroneț feature an intense shade of blue known in Romania as "Voroneț blue."
The monastery is located to the south of Gura Humorului in Suceava County, in the valley of the Voroneț River. The legend of the origin of the church unites two men central to Romanian history: the founder of the monastery, Stephen the Great, and Saint Daniil the Hermit, the first abbot of the monastery. The tomb of Saint Daniil is located within the monastery.
The church is one of the Painted Churches of Moldavia listed in UNESCO's list of World Heritage sites”

In Romania, these monasteries are very praised and I was afraid I would be disappointed (as on many other occasions). But that did not happen. I'm sorry I did not have enough time to visit more.So I recommend you a visit to the northern Romanian Moldova.:)

Wow! I love the art on this church! specially the 'Voronet Blue'! Understandable that it's a Unesco World Heritage site. Looks like some sections could use a little retouching though. Romania is so beautiful! Great vid Sorin!!
Good morning, Michael! Glad you came over here. Of course, it needs renovation, especially in the wind direction. There the rain washed most of the paintings. The problem is just that "Voronet blue ". They have failed to identify the ingredients and how to prepare the paint. Scientists don't know everything ... yet. Have a beautiful Sunday!
that is amazing, that they can't duplicate the blue. At least put something there no? but it's beautiful anyway... and maybe leaving it the way nature has ravaged it is more beautiful in it's own way too. Fascinating Church though. Great one Sorin! Have a great Sunday too!

Those paintings are amazing, I used to appreciate catholic churches, I was tourist guide in the Cathedral of Sigüenza and ten years ago I went to Romania: The feeling of my first step inside of a church in Bucaresti was greatly deep. You have a very interesting cultural heritage
