A missed detail: Miss Spink and Miss Forcible tell Coraline to not watch “the Scottish play”, and when Coraline watches the other Miss Spink and the other Miss Forcible’s play, one of them say “is this a dagger which I see before me”, which is what Macbeth says in Shakespeare’s play, and Macbeth is known as “The Scottish Play”
Bedlam: An infamous "psychiatric hospital" of old London town, back in the days of the Elizabethan era. "Beldam": An old, malicious and/or loathsome woman. Also the "Other Mother" of Coraline.
my favorite line of the book was “spiders’ webs only have to be large enough to catch the fly” when they were talking about how the other mother only made the house in the other world and not the well or anything else
Excellent installment--so glad I found your channel! The only thing to quibble about is that the Eeeevil Other Mother is called "The Beldame" (bell' dahm), not "The Bedlam." "Le Belle dame sans merci" is a terrific pre-Raphaelite painting that shows one interpretation of the lamia-like "Beldame." Essentially she lures young men in particular from the safety of reality and into an illusory world of beauty, pleasure and obsession. The Beldame's end goal is to lull her prey into slumber in order to suck out all the life, animation, and soul from the victim. Yikes! Looking forward to more episodes!
My name is Cora Lynn pretty close to Coraline right the movie was made right after I was born too and in my town a small town there is a house that looks just like the one in the movie I’m scarred for life
what ? Probably because the movie focuses on much more terrifying concepts. The movie isn’t as suspenseful or jumpy as some horror movies. Your average horror movie like Friday the 13th or Child’s play would focus on the drawn out and excruciating deaths of a victim. While there is no other way for somebody to suffer so horribly physically, Coraline focuses on something that’s actually worse than death. Being captured. There’s nothing more terrifying than being thrusted into a situation against a being with more power than you that essentially created its own world. But the idea that the Beldame wishes for you to fall into a state where you can’t do anything and can only stay trapped is much worse than any death. So I can totally understand where he\shes coming from saying that the movie is scarier than some other horror films.
My mom found an adder stone on the beach. It was a triangle, just like the movie. There's a door in my house that I've never opened ....Am I going to die?
They should make a Coraline 2 where she’s grown up, has a daughter of her own whose in her late 20’s with her own daughter and husband who moves into the house in the first movie except now it’s renovated and modern. Coraline’s daughter obtains the doll after her mom passes and hears of all the stories she once told her about the house and the doll when she was alive, but she never believed her. The doll is then passed down to Coraline’s granddaughter who was about the same age as Carolina and yea the “Other Mother” is back ..🤭
Coraline did escape didn’t she as in one scene when she escapes from the mirror I think she doesn’t leave as the other mother just walks down the stays and says coraline is that you but , the last escape she’s a lot more aggressive
Jackonabox In the last scene the garden is in the shape of the other mothers face. She made her feel like she had escaped and that she was safe but in reality she never left.
At the end of the movie you see the cat disappear into the sign post for “The Pink Palace” he is only shown to be able to do that in the other world. So does that mean that it was the directors subtle hint that Coraline didn’t really escape the Beldam?!
Cat also says that there is more ways to come to the other world than small door. So maybe now he is able to come there whenever he wants bc other mother is weaker
jalyssa ashlynn The Well is the portal Coraline walks through from the locked door. She threw the hand and key down the well back to the Beldam if you look up the lore of the well, meaning Beldam’s coming after her and she’s fucked
Also another detail- when coroline is tricked by the beldam who was disguised as her "real mother" at that moment, she has melting snow on her jacket- Same detail happens later, when her actual parents arrived. I find that strange, idk
@@jasminejuliens wait omg that is strange 😭 also I feel like Coraline is so nice as just one movie, but I feel like we all need a part 2 so some of the questions can be answered ✌🏼
Weirdly enough, when Coraline came out, I was 6 and it didn’t scare me. I had it on loop for a good month and a half. I would watch it once a day in 3D with my brothers, who were terrified, after dinner. I watched it two years ago since I first saw it and I had my first teenage nightmare. I am a horror buff who doesn’t scare easily (anymore). That threw me for a bit. I was 14 and now I am 16 watching it only in the October or summer months (because of the end of the movie) and it still kind of unsettles me. That has caused my deep fascination on Coraline. I watch The Theorizer do his long videos on explaining Coraline lore. I haven’t become an expert yet so I am curious to see what info you have that I may not. BTW I am not watching this just for Coraline but I am a solo cup tho.
My parents got me the movie and literally everyone was scared of the movie except for me. Like my parents and sis found it unsettling and my cousins found it scary.
I was nine when it was in theaters and I made my family go see it with me. My brother was terrified and my parents were all like why would you make watch this terrifying movie. and i enjoyed it cuz of the animation
@@ThorStore true, actually some of the stuff like the beldam and witch stone do have slight conditions with the theorizer's videos. I'm just expecting Jon to spew out plot holes for his videos. Like the dude seriously expects something as grandiose as JJBA for a self contained story.
@@kevin4061 also true but then again, the theories that the theorizer makes are somewhat backed up by the book, he mentions this in one of his early videos. I guess we have to wait for part two to maybe debunk some of the theories. He does go on a stretch though so I wouldn't be surprised if Jon actually does show some plot holes😂
I had watched Coraline with my mother since I was.. maybe 6 or 7, and even though it scared the hell outta me, I would always force my mother to watch the movie with me before bed, because I liked to be scared...? Once I finally was able to tolerate "Scary" movies was when I truly appreciated the film.
"we are small but we are many, we are many we are small, we were here before you rose we will be here when you fall" "not creepy at all" Me: 😬😬... Dudes got bars.
Then they say "We have teeth and we have tails We have tails and we have eyes We were here before u fell u will be here when we Rise!" okay now Im starting to think that the rats are against the Beldam hahaha
It is actually referred to as a “seeing stone” it is known in Celtic legend. A stone with a nature worn hole.. It is suppose to strip away magic so you can see things as they are..
I had nyctophobia because of this, and I screamed even at the mere mention of the word "Coraline". But, I got over it. the nyctophobia stems from the fact that it's always nighttime in the other world, and nyctophobia means "fear of the dark".
We are all happy that Coraline escaped. But when I remember the other 3 children they are in so much pain, I can not even imagine what happened to them in the end or how she killed them. In fact it would be nice to have a movie with each of the other kids because I want to see how the witch tricked them and what she did to the kids in the end
In the book is revealed that the Beldam does want to love “her” kids, but she needs to heat. So ultimately, she traps their souls in their eyes, and then eats the flesh. Is implied that she either chops at them bit by bit, or either swallows them whole
So? It’s a good story, and a great film adaptation! I’ve always been a Nightmare Before Christmas fan myself. I think I just am really into stop motion
I watched it at a sleepover in 7th grade a few back. I couldn’t look at my mom the same way for about 2 or 3 weeks after that. Nowadays, I can watch Coraline without an issue. One of my favorite movies of all time now lol.
The story about the bees is something that actually happened to the author Neil Gaiman. He stood and got stung by bees while his two children ran up a hill to escape them, and when they made it home he realised he’d actually dropped his glasses and had to go back
@@catguy4996 glasses are hella expensive?? Maybe just where I live but each time I gotta change the perscription it's around $100 bucks a pop WITH insurance :/
He even put up the wrong definition for it. The three dead children even SAY it correctly in the movie, which leads me to believe maybe he hasn’t seen it?
You’re not alone. I’m only 3 minutes into the video internally screaming about this easily correctable error. Someone was just too lazy to redo the voiceover/do their homework.
Get this Maybe the dad is innocent because these are some of his lines “ I’m sorry, *mother made me* “ “ She’s as cute as a *button in the eyes-* “ So maybe the song was a warning? And the mom was “making him” what does that mean?
I was forced to read the whole book in a group as a 8/9 year old kid in school, I’m still traumatized like 13 years later. This is my first time watching anything about that Coraline story since then
This is my favourite movie of all time, it never scared me unless you look into more details and theories it makes it creepier but it's an iconic stop motion film
I’ve never understood why everyone thought this movie was scary. I was 6 years old when it came out and i was never terrified. Even my older brothers and my mother were creeped out

A missed detail:
Miss Spink and Miss Forcible tell Coraline to not watch “the Scottish play”, and when Coraline watches the other Miss Spink and the other Miss Forcible’s play, one of them say “is this a dagger which I see before me”, which is what Macbeth says in Shakespeare’s play, and Macbeth is known as “The Scottish Play”
Bedlam: An infamous "psychiatric hospital" of old London town, back in the days of the Elizabethan era.
"Beldam": An old, malicious and/or loathsome woman. Also the "Other Mother" of Coraline.

Absolutely. It's pretty clear that the parents are just trying their best but are clearly really tired. I
my favorite line of the book was “spiders’ webs only have to be large enough to catch the fly” when they were talking about how the other mother only made the house in the other world and not the well or anything else

I loved it as a kid lol
When I first seen the movie I had nightmares fo a movie when the other mother went to chase Coraline 😆
@TheLao Me too... kinda fxcked up really
My name is Cora Lynn pretty close to Coraline right the movie was made right after I was born too and in my town a small town there is a house that looks just like the one in the movie I’m scarred for life
To me, this movie is scarier than some horror movies😂
Bryce Lowry ikr
How?

@boulderguy888 why? I don’t know why that is so funny but it is

Make sure to bring a cat with you to throw at you fake mom 😬
They should make a Coraline 2 where she’s grown up, has a daughter of her own whose in her late 20’s with her own daughter and husband who moves into the house in the first movie except now it’s renovated and modern. Coraline’s daughter obtains the doll after her mom passes and hears of all the stories she once told her about the house and the doll when she was alive, but she never believed her. The doll is then passed down to Coraline’s granddaughter who was about the same age as Carolina and yea the “Other Mother” is back ..🤭
Except coraline never escaped
Coraline did escape didn’t she as in one scene when she escapes from the mirror I think she doesn’t leave as the other mother just walks down the stays and says coraline is that you but , the last escape she’s a lot more aggressive
Jackonabox In the last scene the garden is in the shape of the other mothers face. She made her feel like she had escaped and that she was safe but in reality she never left.

HONESTLY- I’d watch but I’d be terrified
At the end of the movie you see the cat disappear into the sign post for “The Pink Palace” he is only shown to be able to do that in the other world. So does that mean that it was the directors subtle hint that Coraline didn’t really escape the Beldam?!
Cat also says that there is more ways to come to the other world than small door. So maybe now he is able to come there whenever he wants bc other mother is weaker
No it means the beldam is still alive
jalyssa ashlynn The Well is the portal Coraline walks through from the locked door. She threw the hand and key down the well back to the Beldam if you look up the lore of the well, meaning Beldam’s coming after her and she’s fucked
Also another detail- when coroline is tricked by the beldam who was disguised as her "real mother" at that moment, she has melting snow on her jacket-
Same detail happens later, when her actual parents arrived.
BTW I am not watching this just for Coraline but I am a solo cup tho.
its actually not scary
My parents got me the movie and literally everyone was scared of the movie except for me. Like my parents and sis found it unsettling and my cousins found it scary.
Emerald same but it was 3 hehe
why is this so relatable😂
I was nine when it was in theaters and I made my family go see it with me. My brother was terrified and my parents were all like why would you make watch this terrifying movie. and i enjoyed it cuz of the animation
The theorizer:
Jon solo: this is why you're wrong.
I watch the theroizer as well
Noga Stern me too.
I don't know though, Jon talks about the origin story more than any actual theories, like the theorizer so can we really compare them?

It's not because it"s animated that it's a kids movie lmao
I had nyctophobia because of this, and I screamed even at the mere mention of the word "Coraline". But, I got over it. the nyctophobia stems from the fact that it's always nighttime in the other world, and nyctophobia means "fear of the dark".
Lol wow really? Such a soft ass world we live in now. Lol. Whatever...
