Thanks for watching! i appreciate it! Ian, compared to you guys, I know very little about Quo. Unfortunately we didn't grow up with them like you did. I can show the records and say my opinions but not much else. Sorry for late reply, just found the comment. Have a great day! Jon
10 cans of beer whilst listening to Quo, Live At The Apollo, Glasgow is an out of this world experience. It sits alongside other live rock albums like Thin Lizzy, Live And Dangerous and Motorhead's, No Sleep 'Till Hammersmith. Nice collection. I had a few of them back in the 80's. I had the Box set. My favourite Quo head banger songs were "Paper Plane" and "The Mystery Song". Many Quo songs remind me of the old boozing days in Dorset, over the Purbecks and in the New Forest in England. Along with Hawkwind a favourite with the 70's bikers who lined their choppers up along Swanage seafront.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your good memories!! Must’ve been a blast back then! Sounds like you seen a bunch of good gigs! You’ve got good taste Sir!! Cheers, Jon
Dog of two head, like you say is the crossover period from psycadelia to out and out boogie rock I love time to fly on that album Paperplane, is a top tune, Roadhouse bules is a rocker from piledriver, there is a rumour that Jim Morrison heard them play Roadhouse at the whiskey and said they were good but just too damn loud. In the UK they were released on the Vertigo label On the level awesome album my fave track is Down Down album version. Stand out track on Blue for you is Mystery Song and Rain live 76/77 was a true live album , as it wasn't overdubbed, unlike Kiss Alive. you are quite right about the venue, in Glasgow the Apollo was a theatre about 2000 seater, that's why they would play 2-4 nights sold out every night. Rocking all oer the world came out in1977 heat came out 78' I think the Now hear this was released as Whatever you want in Europe
Wow!! Thanks for adding some facts and your views on the music of Quo!! Much appreciated!!! You are definitely a knowledgeable Quo fan! I made this video a few years ago,so there’s probably some mistakes and oversights in here. But thanks for watching it anyway!! Such a great band!! Cheers, Jon
Hey Malcom, thanks for watching this moldy oldie video! Appreciate it! Quo still vastly underrated in my country! Haha! Have a great week! Good luck in the semifinals, assuming you’re English. Cheers, Jon
Holy smokes!! 43 times!! You’re a lifer! You have no use for this video. Ha! This video was just made for my heavy metal friends here in America not for the real Quo fans. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! I appreciate it!! Cheers!
Great point about how few live albums capture that "theatre" vibe vs. arenas or clubs, and I agree Quo Live is a sensational listen. They're my favourite band and I'm Canadian. Have traveled to the UK to see them a few times including the Frantic Four reunion. Loved this video and loved hearing your passion for the band!
Wow!!! You saw that reunion ! That is so cool!! I imagine Quo are much bigger in Canada than here. Yeah that live album kicks! Quo are really nailing into the groove. No dangling power chords or over the top lead guitar tricks that you commonly hear live from less experienced bands. Quo are jamming! Real professionals! Thanks for watching and commenting! I appreciate hearing from a real fan in Canada! Cheers, Jon
@@bipbopboom Thanks very much, sir! The reunion shows had such an incredible atmosphere unlike any other shows I've been to. The crowds were just so emotional at seeing their heroes together again. Quite something to witness. Quo really aren't any bigger up here than they are in the US. I rarely meet anyone here who knows them. 100% agree with you though that they know how to just keep it simple and let it groove! That's the key to their sound. I once read about how Judas Priest toured with them in their early days and no matter how much more flashy their musical stylings were than Quo's, Halford said Priest could never woo those audiences like Quo could with their simple but powerful boogie rhythm. 🤘
Status Quo performed at The House Of Blues in 1997. The Don’t Stop tour. I do have the same watch as well and a lot of Mexicans living in the US have huge Status Quo collections.
I don’t remember what I said on this video as it was a few years ago. I’m sure it’s full of mistakes. Sorry. This video was originally intended for my less than 20 subscriber friends. That’s all. But you are absolutely correct! A lot of Mexicans and Mexican Americans are way hipper than the average Anglo American rock fan. I hate talking about races and generalizations there’s always exceptions. But I’ve seen it on the rockabilly scene for years. The Mexican Americans ruled! They had the most passion and fun at the shows and had the best bands by far especially in the mid 2000s. The same for heavy metal, no other place in the world comes close to the fans in Mexico and South America. I knew they loved Quo big time too. That’s great you saw Quo live! There was a guy I knew who saw them at the HOB in Chicago. I wonder if it was the same show or tour? Thanks for watching I appreciate it!!! Stay safe! Cheers, Jon
@@bipbopboom It’s funny what you’re saying about Anglo American but it’s true a lot of my co-workers were shock to see the heavy metal bands in Mexico and South America. Stay safe! And KEEP ON ROCKIN 🎸
Just to clarify the point made about size of Glasgow Apollo . It was originally a cinema & had a capacity around 3,500.👍 great music venue. Quo inside the Apollo was “LOUD” 🏴
Thanks for watching! I don’t remember what I said in this video, I’m sure there’s a lot of inaccuracies. But either way what a killer live record!! Because of your comment I went a listened to most of the album at work. iPod not as good as lp but still fantastic! Cheers, Jon
+Jeremy H. (Jablez) Thanks for watching brother. I'm slow at commenting, but I've been been watching your vids. enjoyed the Dream Theater vid with your brother. Sorry 'bout the Mets though. Your Zappa video is up next on my list. Jon
The idea of using Status Quo to convert Al Qaeda members to western civilisation had me in stitches. Not a big Quo fan myself but really enjoyed your video, as always.
great Vid about Status Quo. I love the band and all almost all the discography of the band. My favorites are Piledriver and Hello. Check Ben's videos, he is the king Quo of the Vc and a Huge fan of Status Quo. Check Ryanrocks nickname.
I'd consider Mekong Delta to be a thrash album. I love that album and have it on CD. "Dances of Death" is my favorite from them. Nice Quo collection. I've just recently started picking up stuff from them thanks to Ben's influence. I'm up to about 5 or 6 12" albums, a couple 7" singles and a few CDs. Was playing "Piledriver" just a couple days ago. Solid rock and roll band.
+Scott Waters (ultmetal) Thanks for watching and also for the info on that california metal & other comps. I will definitely add that other Mekong Delta record to my list. i wonder if it is as "bizarre" sounding as the first? Cheers, Jon
Quo dont get credit but they do know how to use interesting chord changes in their music. yea its boogie but they do enough with it to make it theirs. when you get into it and the penny drops you realise they were a realy good band
Thanks! I am a fan of the band, but certainly not an expert. Those two records I don’t know inside out. In America we just didn’t hear about them. I had to do my own digging 20 plus years ago. Cheers!!!
I think you picked the very best part of SQ early to mid 70s. I have to say I find something interesting in all the years of Quo from the psychedelic 60s and the MOR pop sound of the 80s. Quo played plenty of boogie - I think people will find the band covered so much music from folk and country to hard rock and beyond. If you play something that get's you excited what more do people want at the end of the day? Quo were and will always be remembered as a LIVE band first and formemost by the millions of fans around the world who watched them play live and went home reinvigorate by the music.
Freakster1970 thanks for watching and commenting. You are correct, Quo was so much more than just a boogie rock band. There were better hard rock or country rock bands, but when it comes to that shuffle boogie, no one came close. They were the kings. Hopefully you were lucky enough to have seen them live, I never did. Cheers, Jon
Funny how I ended up here as Quo were my favourite band in the 70s and I’m from Cardiff. Your analysis is spot on. I lost interest in them after Rocking All Over The World, but live they were the nutz.
Well I appreciate that you did end up here! Thanks! That’s what RUclips is best at. Getting an instructional lesson on how to build or repair something or rediscovering music from the past. Everything else is pretty much a waste of time. Haha! So cool you were into Quo during their prime days and great to hear from a fan from Cardiff!!!! Thanks! Jon
