I love how incredibly positive Patrick. He's also a really great developmental coach. I love seeing him with with high level players on increasing fundamentals. It's important, regardless of ability level!
when I watch these helpful videos I really can comprehend every movement and detail and can even imagine me doing those when playing myself... but when step on court my body does behave completely different
that's why it takes time... :-) The challenging part is to factor in a new useful tip on top of a baseline technique without forgetting the other important things :-)
"Your legs decide" - This comment is key to tennis. One of the reasons older players (I'm 65, and younger players too) develop bad habits is conditioning. Your legs will decide if your shots will be from a stable base and consistent hitting position...well at least until you hit a certain age, as the great Little Feat song says, "You know when you're over the hill when your mind makes a promise that you're body can't fill".
Thank you straight from Brazil, Mr. Moratoglou. Your lessons are amazing I used one of your tips this afternoon : "Drive the Ball". It's not The same of "Drag the Ball"? Isn't IT? Could you tell me the difference or simillarity?
As a coach teaching this more modern approach to the modern game of “spin blasting” I fully grasp your need to teach what works for the modern version, but do you feel the game has lost 60% of what used to make up the complete challenge of what used to be the game of tennis and now all we see is cranked topspin forehands and for the most part that is it. As Nadal won his most recent and the Ao with what was essentially one shot and running/cardio do you see a need for a return to smaller racquet heads, less spin strings and varying court speeds to improve the breath of challenge that tennis used to represent.
I somewhat agree that some of the all court play has been lost, but make no mistake Nadal is a complete player not just a forehand. I wish they would bring back the fast grass and indoor carpet.
ATP has messed up by making the courts slower to keep the matches longer. We need the faster courts back. Who wants to watch a 3 hour 3-setter, without all around tennis?
The old school of players can't compete now with modern Tenis, it's evolution, nothing is wrong with that, and it's not all spin, there is some players out there who can actually hit flat shots (Medvedev and others)
nadal was using a lot of backhand slice, drop shots, and net play to move medvedev around and finish against him. if you felt that he only had one type of shot that match, then you are probably only seeing what you are looking for.
You usually go for the open stance on the forehand, as you can generate more power out of it (“load”). But if you see that the ball is short, you step into the court and the stance will often change. On the backhand you often will automatically have the close stance, as you can see in the video “Rafael Nadal Backhand Drill in HD View”, where he only have the open stance when he doesn’t have time. The differences between forehand and backhand concerning stances you can see very well in the video “Carlos Alcaraz & Andrey Rublev Practice…”.

The best coach for sure great lessons but boy did those open stance backhands look awkward. I get that he was deliberately getting her to load off the outside hence the open stance but I prefer to pivot more closed and get weight on the front.looked like no power and hard to coil from front on with 2 hands.

If I had a coach teaching me exactly as in this lesson for 30 minutes, my tennis would go up at least a level

Now is the open stance the new "must" or is it still only when you're late on the ball?
Only when you're late. Ideally you want to step in.
If you have time i would say you should always stand closed
Completely depends on what direction you're moving to the ball. If you're moving sideways or back, open stance is pretty standard.
Great teachings ...pse upload more and more teachings .
Girl in the back: "Are we going to play or what"
Could be the tarjet of this exercise as well to convince that incredible athlete to work more close stands to hit the ball closer and higher??

He told her to close her stance repeatedly, but she never did it.
