This scene always brings a tear to my eye. Bobby wanted to impress the vegetarian so badly, that he gave up eating meat (a big part of his identity) to win her over. It wasn't enough and she wasn't impressed. When she dumped him, Bobby was depressed. He'd lay on the living room floor, shirtless and groaning in agony, because the girl he loved left him. When he sees her in public, at first he wants to leave, but then something changes, and he decides to take his identity back AND prove to his ex-girlfriend that he's done with her ideologies. With the encouragement of his family and his community, he finishes the steak, taking his identity back from the girl who didn't appreciate him.
@@PintheDog Personally, I don't count it because they were middle schoolers. But Marie did declare Bobby her boyfriend in the episode, even went as far as to kiss him to make it official. So no, Bobby didn't imagine it, but it shows that he was in a toxic relationship.
I loved how they all cheered him on and even though Hank literally hates PDA he kisses Peggy. What a moment and glorious achievement by Bobby. I hope I someday have a son like him
What makes it even funnier is that the b story is that bobby commented on how they never do PDA (while him and his gf always do it) and it was this entire awkward thing with them. Which is what makes the moment right after they do it being met with "c'mon, I'm eating" so funny
This was one of the scenes that made me realize why Cotton was always so nice to Bobby. Not only does Bobby bear a pretty striking resemblance to Cotton in his younger years, but he also has that same mean streak underneath all the girly behavior that Hank sees as "not right".
That, and Bobby is much more funny and casual about things, whereas Hank is...Hank, so Cotton feels more comfortable around Bobby and respects him more. Cotton ironically is more open-minded than his son in _some_ areas, simply because Cotton is okay with moving by the beat of your own drum and having a good time.
@@balanc-joy9187 Plus Grandparents are just always more fun and nicer to grandkids than their own kids. Cotton is the father from hell but a decent Grandpa at times.
I love that you can hear hank cheering on Bobby as soon as we see the steak; Man knows what his son’s self confidence is worth, even if he doesn’t always get Bobby.
Eating a 72-Oz steak is something Hank Hill can get behind under regular circumstances, but the knowledge that he’s doing it to win the breakup makes it an easy sell.
I always felt so sad for Bobby in this episode. Marie was so cruel to him, especially with how she led him on and then flirted with those other guys. Just seeing Bobby lying on the floor shortly after she dumped him was so heartbreaking, but that was so sweet of Peggy to put a blanket over him and then to kiss him goodnight. Seeing Bobby eat that entire steak and seeing Marie's look of defeat in this scene was so, SO satisfying! That was also awesome to see not only Peggy, but also Hank cheering him on here. Even MARIE'S PARENTS were rooting for him! If I had a Top 10 King of the Hill episodes list, this one would definitely be on it!
Yes, but Peggy said something along the lines of, your love wasn't as strong as mine and your father's. Thus rubbing his pain in his face and proving that she's always been an arrogant narcissist even before the skydiving episode.
What i love the most about this is that those restaurants who offer challenges like that aren't cheap. That would be about a $100 steak if he failed. Hank and Peggy knowing how hurt their son is and wanting to help took that risk just so he could feel better and get over his heart ache. I miss this show

America as a whole cannot be contained within one thought or one picture, there is so much to the country. The episode where Bobby becomes a meat judge is a perfect example. That episode was actually supposed to be the series finale, before they were pushed to make several more episodes for money reasons.
@@JuanAppleseed-ge6tbPeople just get upset because Hank is judgemental and pushes it onto his son. They always seem to forget that Hank will often change his mind or at least tolerate what he's bothered about. If Hank was as bad as they say he is, he wouldn't even attempt to compromise ever and would just put Bobby down like Cotton did to Hank. All things considered he's a good dad because he actually tries to consider Bobby and change his own behavior/attitude when he's in the wrong, which is a big thing for someone like Hank with his rigid thinking. He clearly cares about Bobby and wants what's best for him, even if his analysis is off.

Bobby Hill is one respectable boy. No matter who judges him, he never stops being himself. He knows how to bring out the best out of every quality that's in him. The right woman would never need to change a thing about him.
Story time: I did something like this once when I visited Minnesota. 64 oz sirloin that was $50 but if you ate it in 45 minutes it was free (and you get a t-shirt). Had it medium rare and finished it in about 30 minutes. The most shocking thing of all? I was still hungry afterwards and I ate some rolls and soup. The kicker was I don't think I went to the bathroom for 2 days.
okay guess we're sharing stories now. Mine was at a wing place. They have the triple atomic challenge. 8 wings, bone in, with the most diabolically hot sauce i've ever encountered. I'm downing my water, beer, they brought a glass of milk, chugged that, more water, I'm doing anything i can to save myself. Long story short i end up running to the restroom and pray at the porcelain alter. Not all food challenge stories are success stories.

Bingo. He may not be a perfect dad, but he's a good one at the end of the day.

America as a whole cannot be contained within one thought or one picture, there is so much to the country. He admits sometimes he's wrong. He's willing to try new fads and ideas, sometimes he appreciates something new. Other times he's also not afraid to call out the stupid stuff for what it is in front of everyone.
He's a family man. He's hard on Bobby sometimes but he does seem to be aware it comes from a place of his own rough upbringing and will correct himself when he realizes he's being too hard.
He may admonish Bobby but let *NOONE* say he isn't quick to praise and tell him he's done good work when it's earned, as previously mentioned something he always wanted from his own father and never got.
@@Rixoli Boom. You get it.
I have often wondered why people don't give him the credit he is due. He's a very, VERY realistic dad. He absolutely does not understand his son, and is often put off by his son's behavior, but he NEVER backs down from defending Bobby or praising him when he does well.
