Interesting belay location. I built the belay for the start of this pitch on a large pedastal.

Yeah, I didn't get a chance to finish explaining in the video. I'm unsure if my partner topped Pitch 4 in the right spot, so we traversed to the right and down 20 - 30 feet to where we started this pitch. It's possible we got it wrong, not that where we started it didn't work.

@@FirstPersonBeta Ah. I also got kinda lost on the fourth pitch; I kept going up instead of trending right to the pedestal belay. It made for a shitty traverse for my partner. :(

Interesting to hear your verbal comments about the last section being runout. Were those placements poor or just missing the right gear for them?
(I feel like I’m pretty in-line with your still “new to 5.7-5.8” trad, but usually carry doubles to avoid running it out from lack of gear)

I could be wrong but I don’t think this is the last pitch of olive oil. Last pitch climbs a chimney that ends in a small alcove.
    I enjoy your videos!

Possible though the top out was only 15 feet above us up a ramp.

This is the last pitch, just started from higher up than the standard large belay ledge at the top of pitch 4.
Crazy to think Honnold and Cedar free solo down climbed this recently.

it's olive oil. and it's not rated R. he chose to run it out and skip gear

Watched the whole series, and loved every minute, but...
... you climbed around Olive oil, but missed much of the route.
That's ok though, since nearly everyone who has ever climbed it has done their own variation.

Man, placing gear this far apart seems crazy to me. Is the assumption that you're a good enough climber that you don't fall? If he ever wore to fall he wouldn't die but surely break his back or legs. Just try not to think about it?
