- Puerto Rico's nickname island of enchantment is a fitting description for an Island blessed with sandy beaches, palm trees, rugged mountains, and tropical breezes. Yet Puerto Rico's landscape and beaches are much more than that, making it one of the most unique places in the world
Three Bioluminescent Bays are located in Puerto Rico and one of those three is the world's brightest..
The first is Laguna Grande located in the town of Fajardo. It is hidden inside Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve. This one is technically not a bay. It's a narrow and long canal that leads to the bio water making it a lagoon. This is the most visited bio bay in Puerto Rico because its so close to the capital, San Juan. The good thing about this bay is that its the easiest one to visit and the bad part is that it gets crowded because of the same reason.
The second is La Parguera located in the town of Lajas at the southwestern corner of Puerto Rico. This name actually refers to a small fishing village in the town that's popular not only for hosting the bioluminescent bay on its coasts but also for having great seafood. The good part about visiting this one is that some guided tours allow you to dive in and swim after dark with the proper equipment..They even have glass bottom boats that you can take out. The only negative is a longer distance from hotels in the airport areas such as San Juan .
And the third one is Mosquito Bay located in Vieques. Mosquito Bay was recognized by Guinness World Records in 2006 as the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world. This bay is so captivating because of its high concentration of dinoflagellates. Each gallon of water in this bay contains about 70,000 of these microscopic crearures. It's one of Puerto Rico's true wonders. Now Vieqes is actually a small island outside the mainland of Puerto Rico which makes it harder to visit than the other two. However, the fact that its the brightest one in the world make the difficult visit worthwhile...Its also the one thats probably less crowded which should make the visit even better..

Such great information that this channel put out.
I've been to Laguna Grande once, and to Mosquito Bay 3 times. It's a unique and magical experience. As this video mentioned, pay attention to the moon phase, and plan on going when it's as dark as possible. It just makes the experience all the more enjoyable.
My first time at Mosquito bay was the best one. They took us out on kayaks, they gave us the verbal education, and then they let us swim in the waters. Then we remounted out kayaks, and headed back to the shore. It was not as enjoyable when they took us out on a pontoon boat. People had cameras and phones and flash and a lack of judgement. So if possible, take the tour that utilizes kayaks.
It's amazing to think that there are 5 biobays in the world, and 3 of them are in Puerto Rico. Yes, little ole' Puerto Rico. It leaves an impression with me every time I hear it.
Vieques is a paradise. The bioluminesence under a starry night sky made me into a neon nymph, like a Christmas tree I was all lit up. It was unbelievably exuberant and memorable.
Great video you make me miss my beloved Vega Alta with your videos great work
Thank You..I'm glad you enjoy the videos .
Vieques has some beautiful beaches as well.
Wow wish I knew about this back in November 😭😭
Beautiful facts 💯 ❤
Another excellent report. Bioluminescent shores are not well protected as many hotel developers have been known to push construction in those delicate ecological areas.
victorsantana162 Yeah I heard about these "developers" treating the island as their personal play yard without regard for the people..
@@coquireport Well said. The history of disregard for ecosystems and natural reserves is quite long with mining for copper in the middle of the island, private developments on karst areas where vital underground freshwater runs, to hotels planned on the North Corridor where sea turtles nests and other delicate ecosystems exist. Thank God there are many brave environmentalists in PR who have fought against powerful corporations and corrupt politicians to block such environmental destruction.

Do the bays glow all year round ? We are going In August
Frank Lopez I'm sure they do glow all year but I would do more research or call someone on the Island affiliated with bays just to confirm .
