i've encountered many schools of the puppies but never anything like that in my 20 yrs fishing NC! hard to pick a favorite but maybe mine is finding a whole on the beach and pulling in some specks late fall without cheating at the stop nets. it was always a good feeling! such a feisty delicate species
While flounder fishing at Topsail island and caught a 46'' cobia on a 2500penn battle and lite flounder rod. I was fishing from the bank and had to call a near by skiff to let me hop on the bow and chase the fish down... Ended up giving the kind man on the skiff a nice steak of cobia in return!
I fish in nc for bull reds also and also have caught some big ones in Louisiana and I have never seen anything that crazy. Kick ass video man thanks for sharing. 🤙
This is absolutely insane! This is probably the craziest thing i’ve seen fishing wise ever, just the size of the school is crazy and they’re all massive reds too! Absolutely mental vid dude🤙🤙
I wish I had a drone up or a real camera with me... this video honestly doesn't even do justice to how large an area they were covering. I'd say 1000 fish easy.
Congrats on being apart of that, definitely magical. Years ago in late spring early summer at the third island of bay bridge tunnel on the bay side, slack tide, late evening, slick as glass and no other boats around. Hundreds of 40 plus inch stripers just cruising around on top of the water chasing anything you threw at them. Best fishing moment ever for myself and id asume the other 3 guys with me.
oh my gosh that's amazing! I've never gotten to fish for striper... aside from a few random schoolies around home. I'd love to go fish for some big ones in the near future!
How has this not hit million of views, literally best footage for fishing👏 eating red fish tonight I finally experienced my first blitzs- June 16th , 2021 💯good luck on waters fellow fishers
I live near you can you please let me borrow a kayak to go catch some red drum last time I went with my dad was a decade ago and unfortunately he passed away so I haven’t been since. Great video btw! Loved seeing those drums smack the surface takes me back to a time when me and my dad were fishing and we got the sight to see them running like you see in the video!
I consider myself a fairly avid red drum fisherman, mainly around Charleston sc but I have never seen anything remotely close to that. I didn't even know that behavior was even possible. Insane
Drums are migrating south because the beaches are actually open down there🙄. Always come for the early fall drum roll, and stay at the lands end house🤙🏽good times.
had that happen once with schooling speckled trout in the gulf. just as fast as i could get a mirro lure in the water a fish picked it up. more than once one would shake it out and another one would immediately pick it up. went on for a half hour. craziest thing ever. almost as crazy as managing to get an 8 foot cast net over a cobia
I have a rental in Duck. OBX. I would love to surf fish that area if I already haven't. Pea island other side of Oregon inlet was my favorite red fish area not an easy walk but we'll worth it. Something about the currents along the beach.not a place to swim lots of sandbars and rips naturally builds a slew of natural rivers that parallel the beach you understand what I mean if you're a local obxer
Brett Barley Was that a school of manhadden? We used to catch spanish and king mackerel in such schools in the fall down in Kure Beach (the “outer banks” of the Cape Fear).
you can't keep the big ones like these guys... This was shot the first week they showed up. Moments like this are rare, but the Big Drum hang around here all summer into fall, they just spread out more.
Usually you don't want to eat them when they get over 28 inches. A lot of them have worms. I'd say 18 to 24 inches the meat taste the best. Tight lines matey
Brett...long time surf fisherman here....since the 80s! Just curious what those reds were feeding on...and if you were north of Oregon inlet...or south down towards Buxton...or village of Hatteras.
Not true... last year the fish did this one day as well, and a couple of the charter fleet witnessed it. I then saw it in the evening when I launched near sunset.
Haha his laugh does sound like Mickey Mouse some times..crazy.. I appreciate the vids, Im a surfer from NC and live in Raleigh now, used to go to Hattteras all the time before they moved the house. Even had to drive back from Frisco to Wilmington in my wetsuit because someone stole all my clothes out of my jeep at frisco while I was surfing. Thats a beutiful day and EPIC fishing!! Lived in Hawaii for a couple years ( Maui) and im proud to be back in NC.. I mean just look at that water and sky!! Keeo up the vids bro..and as the Hawaiins say be proud because your grown here not flown here!
That bonito you caught looked like the edible ones referred to as Atlantic Bonito. They have teeth unlike bonita which are great bait. Next time you catch one make sure to pan sear it with sesame seeds like you would tuna. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_bonito
Sheild is junk bro tsunami has the worst drag on the market lol atleast buy a saltx even there junk try to apply half of there 50lbs of drag and youll bed the main shaft to the roller.ill post the vid for your viewers...JUNK
the Shield is insane for the price point... submersible for around $110 is pretty wild. It's not meant to be a top tier reel. it's meant to be an affordable submersible reel for the every day guy. I've been using mine for almost 2yrs, haven't serviced em once, and they still working fine. A little grease would serve em well though... - also not sure what issues you've had with the SaltX but that thing is a gem... I love my 6000.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FISHING MOMENT?!
Probably my first flounder. Those things are aggressive little buggers
Just now watching this craziness!!!

@@jonahwomble58 that is such an epic story!!
I fished for reds my whole life in NC. I've seen large schools before, but NOTHING like that. Thanks for sharing. Great footage.
It was quite the spectacle!
Brett Barley if I’m ever up your way let’s go send a few to the dentist

Out of the millions of videos I've watched. And hundreds of amazing blitzes in Cape Cod I've witnessed, this is this tops them all! So cool
That first eat was insane!! So sick.
That was insane I have Ben in some really good striped bass blitzes but they were some nice fish awesome video 👍👍

Mid November through December at the Chesapeake bay bridge tunnel is an epic place to catch giant striper.
Absolutely the most amazing video that I have ever seen!!!! You need an award for this!
Nice Bret! My best days are the ones fishing with my boy for salmon. The kayak makes you work for it for sure : )
Pure life...

Man they are so lit up. That is beautiful
Incredible video!!! Clips from the next video.... is the back flip finally landed?!!!
That’s cool that reds have made such a comeback! I saw a huge school by the Fernandina jetties bout ‘87.
Always been like this here
Absolutely amazing! Congratz bro.
That is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen lmao!! You said it Blessed.
Wow, that's incredible! Never seen anything like that. What were they eating? You could see them chasing something,, maybe mullet, speckled trout?
Looked like pogies
insane! Just got back from some awesome drum fishing out of Little River SC back in the creeks. A great day.
Wow, cool day, what yak is that?
Can't wait seems like they are almost here to Virginia
Awesome, once again a great video!!!!!

That was amazing
Wow. You can just grab those fish straight out of the water! That’s amazing.
That's so gnarly!!!
Where did this take place?
Cape Hatteras, NC
Awesome!
Thanks for sharing this total madness…
What time of year was this
Spring Time is prime for this... but sometimes March, sometimes May. it really only happens a couple days when conditions are right and then its over.
That is insane must have been a blast
Were they chasing bait
Ya, tons of menhaden
That was awesome !
Come up to Nantucket and we can you can get on some Stripped Bass on the fly.
are you sure they are not piranahs?
I caught a 60 pounder in my skiff a week ago sick video
That’s epic!
That's awesome what a pig
Love seeing the spawning schools like that
I have had dreams similar to this, never even close to experienced it in real life.
Awesome video. Would love to experience that with the reds
So cool!

Trident 13 from Ocean Kayaks
Where was that, stare wise?

Haha. It’s an epic place for sure
Brett Barley Was that a school of manhadden? We used to catch spanish and king mackerel in such schools in the fall down in Kure Beach (the “outer banks” of the Cape Fear).
Nice I'm from Carolina beach, fished kure pier tons of times for kings.
looking bountiful!
They thought you kayak is a big female and there trying to mate with it 😆 ! To wild!
I have been Drum fishing for 25 years and never saw something like that!! Is it season? can you keep one? They are the best eating...
you can't keep the big ones like these guys... This was shot the first week they showed up. Moments like this are rare, but the Big Drum hang around here all summer into fall, they just spread out more.

Never in my life claim by OBX local is heavy!👏
Awesome fishing mate. Liked watched and subbed, from a fellow youtubing angler from 🇬🇧
Will have to check out your channel curious to see what you guys catch on that side of the pond
Do you live in Florida?
Cape Hatteras, North Carolina
Oh
I bet you started feeling like bait at some point. You know there's plenty bigger things following them around. That's a crazy amount of Reds.
I would genuinely believe I’m some sort of chosen one
Is this in Oklahoma?
Lol not sure if serious
One red fish yells " MOSH PIT"!!!
Lmaooo what a legendary session! And first..
Brett...long time surf fisherman here....since the 80s! Just curious what those reds were feeding on...and if you were north of Oregon inlet...or south down towards Buxton...or village of Hatteras.
I think this was filmed in oklahoma
INSANE.
On spots like that you gotta put the phone down and hang all rods hahaha
haha... I love documenting them as much as catching. the phone clip I was filming was to send my wife to see if my son wanted to come.
Woah
That was cool Jealous
Crazy footage you can see one eat a mullet at 3:40
WERE ARE YOU?
Cape Hatteras, NC
Omg TYSM for answering!
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🐟
Yo, Dude can tie a bimini !
Nice without boats chasing all over and putting them down.
haha I can... not quickly, but I can.
If one motorboat came by, you would never have seen it like that.
Not true... last year the fish did this one day as well, and a couple of the charter fleet witnessed it. I then saw it in the evening when I launched near sunset.
@@brettbarley good luck with that.
They sticking up for their homie
Hahaha
Did anybody hear that bisexual scream at 4:43? Be careful if you're out tha back surfing with Brett. Bah hahah
I like to refer to it more as a Mickey Mouse scream haha... whenever I start hitting Mickey Mouse tones, you know something rad is going on haha.

They were chasing the smaller white fish

Nah it was a False Albacore... super bloody meat. YEA you can eat em if you bleed em out and soak the meat in buttermilk, but it was better as bait.
Imagine if u didn't catch any 😂
I’d have to give up.
Steven King movie like experience except nobody died.
Must be niceeeee
Damn I can't even catch a freaking small Redd fish and I been fishing like hell the past three weeks
Where are you located?
@@brettbarley Southport NC
