As a knitter I was delighted to hear you loudly not mention the Sophie scarf as a trend. In a way it is interesting to see how everyone jumped onto that bandwagon of a very basic, very easy to reverse engineer scarf. Not only beginner knitters (that's when I understand the appeal to have a pattern for something like it), everyone seemed to knit one during last year. Knitting trends might be a bit more niche, but they're a type of fashion trend nonetheless.
I'm going to embrace the egg and hope it provides me with a protective shell. But for real, my fabric stash feels ready, and I'm gonna BE that DIY change I want to see in the world.
I think clothes as protest in general... going through a really tough and taxing time in history makes fashion and having your own very visible outward facing point of view feel more rebellious than before.
Mending and upcycling existing clothes is definitely going to be more of a thing, I agree. The whacky, fantasy 00s vibe that's permeated the decade so far can tie in with that so well. Do mainstream women's looks lean more and more masculine over the past few years, am i noticing that right? Menswear upcycles from hand-me-downs might be a thing. More people learning to design custom pieces to their own liking seems very possible. Ooh, kintsugi inspired mending would be cool as hell.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I will be 60 next week, and even in elementary school, I never dressed like anyone else. My classmates always made comments about the way I dressed some good, some not so good. I never really cared. I just wore what I liked and what made me happy and still do day.
I'm having a hard time getting excited about much this year, but lately I've been inspired to thrift tops for spring that sort of have that medieval maiden vibe with flowy or puffy sleeves. Since I'm 60, I already have the man repeller look, well, it's more of an invisibility cloak.
I wish I could put in words how much Man Repeller changed my worldview and how it enriched my scope when I was discovering myself. I think between Leandra and Ari Seth Cohen form Advanced Style they changed my life forever.

If you're learning to crochet or knit, granny squares are a great place to start. Then you can stitch them together into a bag, scarf, vest, throw, whatever you fancy. Or dish cloths (use cotton), simple so good to learn with and useful. I wonder if home made cord as neckwear as neckwear will make an appearance. Or upcycled glasses chains.
i'm bracing for the possibility of these very class conscious focused trends becoming aestheticized to dilution AND ALSO holding out hope for the possibility that these trends expand and last to motivate more people to embrace the politics of these aesthetics and work for a better world 🌱 part of jester history is keeping the king humble~
as a member of both punk and goth communities I can confidently say that our numbers are on the rise and i'm on the other side of the globe from america. I see a lot of young americans turn to online punk communities as a response to the political climate but I also see a lot of eastern europeans (where im from) to turn to both subcultures both in response to the local war but also as rejection of years of americanisation that we have been subjected to. The US is losing it's status as a cool place to yearn for and I see a lot of people embracing the post-soviet achritecture and vibes and create a new sound and subject in goth music. Extreame localisation is a response to globalisation due to the internet and how overwhelming it is to know and hear about every bad thing happening in the world. People want to help their immidiate communities and I find that beautiful.
Love the video! I agree with the diy predicitons. Thrfiting is getting even more popular and good pieces are increasing harder to find. Transforming what is available in the local thrift as well as upcycling the pieces you already own is so appealing because you can create what you envision. I mean, , there's a learning curve but people are getting so brave about trying new things - crochet, knit, sewing...and it's all so much fun.
I’ve already been eyeing this option because there’s no shortage of small and medium size but hardly anything to thrift in the plus sizes, so remaking one into the other becomes a viable option
Inspiration reference: The quilting patterns that were used as signals in the Underground Railroad. I would love to see them used in certain flag colours.
I hope we see more of what I like to think of as Lesbian core! Androgynous, not for the male gaze, badass looks that intimidate and repel the opposite sex. Definitely feeling like there is a female revolution going down with simply not wanting to engage men that behave so belowww the standard of the average woman so I love that I seee style reflecting that❤❤❤
9:50 this comparison killed me, it's too accurate. Also I feel like the band Haute and Freddy are the perfect representation of the romantic clown-core you are describing. Also also, I definitely want lil fawn feet, or maybe baphomet feet given the hellfire the world has become.
Just one minute in - I never thought of it as the trend of no trends, but I have recently been drawn towards more simple, classic, basic pieces for clothing. My version is ofc jazzed with more extravagant accessories, but the base of the outfit - very simple and understated.
There is going to be an -attempt- by high-end and then mall retailers to imitate thrifted and DIY fashion in the style of Free People. There may be dupes of some recent RUclips creations, including some of your own.
Your trends are such fun! The clowns scare me though lol! I just did a video encouraging everyone to ditch the trends and embrace their quirky instead! x
I’m really excited about the whole no trends thing. Love to see more of peoples own creativity reflect the they style. As maker of my own clothes this just joyful that more are becoming craft makes. As I see it to do craft is act of quiet activism 😊
I will watch for your trend predictions. I'm still of the mind that 2025 will be more subdued, leaning toward classic silhouettes, and demure accessories. Your vision of bedazzled and vibrant color pairings will be present on the fashion landscape, but more to the younger Bohemian artsy types (like yourself!) and will present more as microtrends. The First World is entering a period of more somber and frugal economics, and I think the majority of us will dress reflecting that mindset.
My 2025 trend prediction (and hope) is that femme presenting folx continue to move away from dressing for the male gaze and towards dressing as a form of resistance.
My pillow is exhausted from my screams into it! 🌈🌈🦋🦋 Currently hand stitching the yoke lining into a pair of secret pants. I don’t participate in fast fashion except second hand. I used to have a rethreads business. The pants I’m working are for a formal outfit…I was chosen to volunteer as a Buddy at our local Night to Shine. ❤️
Thought 1 - I have an epic button jar, and an olive green cargo skirt that I made out of a pair of wide leg pants. I am going to sew colourful buttons down the sides of the skirt and maybe across the front seam, because that sounds so freaking fun to me! Thanks for the inspiration! And Thought 2 - Nice undercover "Who's Line is it Anyway?" reference :D
I've thrifted since the '70s (I'm 63) & have never been on trend except the early 80s, well, just bc lol I've worn brooches since I was a child. My color palette has always been muted. My jewelry understated. Working for a 'boys club mentality' company was pure hell. I work at a renfaire now so that's all I shop for now. But why has no one mentioned your blouse!? It looks like those videos with neon outlines dancing in the dark. 😄
re: dressing like animals - I've had these lizard claw sandals in my instagram saved for like 10 years, with NO source. Maybe they're custom, maybe theyre esoteric japanese designer. Regardless, I was pleased to find SUICOKE has these neat bear doublet sandals. Would really love to see more like this! Reminds me of something an 8 year old would wear, in the best way. A child is spirited, free and often unbothered with how they look.
@beaconfilms I haven’t seen pictures, but what you are describing reminds me of the illustrations of “Where the Wild Things Are,” with the little claws on Max’s wolf suit. If I’m remembering correctly, the suit has foot claws! And I love the idea of embracing the zany, free-spirited creativity of a small child
Well I felt mentioned when you said some people just wear jeans and t-shirts. That’s pretty much me, though many of my shirts are actually henleys, or if they aren’t then they probably have something math or engineering on them. I enjoy your channel more for your personality and the crafting than the fashion angle.
I’m always going to be jeans and t shirt ❤ BUT I’ve been around long enough to have some 80s 90s and 2000s and beyond jeans ! Ok ok the 80s really don’t fit anymore, I was so skinny back then , BUT I do have some that look similar , pair with graphic t , and some vintage Nike sneakers or a leather jacket and work boots YES ! I recently came across some photos from the 80s , friendship pins, colored shoelaces, and headbands to match , ALL in stores now ! 😊
“It’s all made up and nothing matters 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳” and also, I didn’t know I could love you more and then you made a Dr Disrespect / Nosferatu comparison and YEEEEESSSSSS my thrift gremlin qween! Thank you for being a bright spot in the interwebz.
bc of the ~political climate~ dressing for practicality and comfort is probably going to be the baseline but i hope that trends start to be based around creativity and accessibility rather than how they have felt, which is so unattainable and not considerate to most body types. despite all the chaos, im excited to see how we continue evolving.
I dont follow trends but i am a thrift goblin, however this year i have challenged myself to do a no-buy year and just use what i have/swap/create! got inspired by leena norms, and i dont have any proof of this but i do think this is something more people are looking into. Underconsumtion-core extended!
Yes! I think Leena has had a big influence on me as well! I haven't sewed much from scratch, but I'm really into mending, and altering stuff so that it fits. I hope your no-buy year goes well!!
Yes please applique! Also trending patterns for knit and crochet are so wild! (Like the six day star blanket and the Taylor Swift crochet dress). I crochet and it's always interesting to see trending patterns.
Definitely been seeking clown core items myself lol but subtle clown core like you said. Also I commented patchwork stuff last vid and I thing you explained it better with the clothing pieces having small elements of diy and other mediums that'd kinda what I meant like things patched together and that definitely fits perfectly with punk fashion and mindsets
I love love love all these predictions. Making fashion more DIY, more weird, more expressive. Love ALL of it. Also do you have a pinterest we could follow? All your example pictures were fantastic inspo
I've been really into creating my own wardrobe pieces (mostly from sewing my own items) like you mentioned and I think this insulates from trends. Sure, some silhouettes/patterns I'm drawn to are "trendy", but because it took time and consideration to make them, they feel more timeless to me and helps me step more fully into SLOW fashion. I'm not fully into the capsule wardrobe place but I do want to have staples that I've made that I can rely on and make my personal style /personal/ because I made it. :)
Not a trend follower. Big thrifter/vintage lover. I wear what I love and don't care what's "in" or what people think 🤷 I work in a professional setting and most of my professional wardrobe is thrifted from the 70s, 80s & 90s. I naturally like a clean, minimalist, classic look. So a 60's dress or an 80's power suit ❤
I have found your channel and absolutely can NOT believe I haven’t been watching for years. I have been watching all the videos and was sooo excited for a new one!!! I think all these predictions are spot on! Especially with the homemade/personal touch tread and the bright, primary colors styled together in the next few months. Also with the tassels or long necklaces, almost like the past/current tread of long ribbon bows in hair or as a necklace. Love the vid!! 🩷🩷🩷
Heyo, very fun! This feels all very true and real in my body right now. Thank you for the beautiful Hongjoong moment ❤ It's interesting, I've begun learning natural dyeing, and it's making me fall in love with colors I used to strongly dislike! Your comment about softer colors made me think of it. The colors you get naturally are so sumptuous and full of presence but usually soft in tone. Gorgeous. This links up with the more natural fibers we're seeing ppl finally embracing! Thanks for the video, as always 💚
I just started making over my wardrobe. Making it. I’ve started taking pieces out of my clothes that I’m not wearing and reworking them into other things. ❤️
I have 100% been thinking about making a deadbolt jacket in the style of a military jacket... or maybe making it like a slider jacket a la synthesizers to have a cool graphic component (volume slider closures??)
Honestly comfy clothes have been my aesthetic of choice since I too am distracted by the horrors and am having a hard time coping with it all. But I love the harsh color combos!
My coworker gifted me the squishiest, most snuggliest, cabled, hand-knitted, vintage, cream colored cardigan. She was allergic and thought I would appreciate it. How right she was!!!! It’s like wearing a hug
I feel like it was just new year's eve the other day... At 37 years old, I don't really care about trends anymore. I just kinda do what I like, but also know that I'm influenced to some extent by what other people are doing. I like you, so of course I'll watch your video. If I hear about trends that I'm interested in trying, cool. If I don't like the trends, I'll find my own inspiration elsewhere. ❤
I think with the rise of Lola Young over the past couple months will really contribute to the “man repellant” style trend. A lot of her outfits really give that vibe and I’m living for it!

🤟🏼❤️🩹
Love the video! I agree with the diy predicitons. Thrfiting is getting even more popular and good pieces are increasing harder to find. Transforming what is available in the local thrift as well as upcycling the pieces you already own is so appealing because you can create what you envision. I mean, , there's a learning curve but people are getting so brave about trying new things - crochet, knit, sewing...and it's all so much fun.
I’ve already been eyeing this option because there’s no shortage of small and medium size but hardly anything to thrift in the plus sizes, so remaking one into the other becomes a viable option
re: animal pieces - I would LOVE to see romantasy fans (and others) sporting some kind of wings
Your top is a work of art 🎨
Oh dear, I had no idea those shoes weren't supposed to look like hooves.
They still DO look like hooves either way!
Inspiration reference:
The quilting patterns that were used as signals in the Underground Railroad. I would love to see them used in certain flag colours.
I hope we see more of what I like to think of as Lesbian core! Androgynous, not for the male gaze, badass looks that intimidate and repel the opposite sex. Definitely feeling like there is a female revolution going down with simply not wanting to engage men that behave so belowww the standard of the average woman so I love that I seee style reflecting that❤❤❤
I definitely see that intersecting with man-repellent and 4B
9:50 this comparison killed me, it's too accurate.
Also I feel like the band Haute and Freddy are the perfect representation of the romantic clown-core you are describing.
Also also, I definitely want lil fawn feet, or maybe baphomet feet given the hellfire the world has become.
Just one minute in - I never thought of it as the trend of no trends, but I have recently been drawn towards more simple, classic, basic pieces for clothing. My version is ofc jazzed with more extravagant accessories, but the base of the outfit - very simple and understated.
Thanks for allowing me to escape the horrors for 15 mins. It's not just a phase, mom!
There is going to be an -attempt- by high-end and then mall retailers to imitate thrifted and DIY fashion in the style of Free People. There may be dupes of some recent RUclips creations, including some of your own.
Your trends are such fun! The clowns scare me though lol! I just did a video encouraging everyone to ditch the trends and embrace their quirky instead! x
I audibly gasped when you mentioned the Sophie scarf because I’m currently knitting my second (and definitely not my last) one :’)
I’m really excited about the whole no trends thing. Love to see more of peoples own creativity reflect the they style. As maker of my own clothes this just joyful that more are becoming craft makes. As I see it to do craft is act of quiet activism 😊
here here!!!
Kathleen, you are truly an innovator, not an imitator, & I am fully here for it 🎉
My 2025 trend prediction (and hope) is that femme presenting folx continue to move away from dressing for the male gaze and towards dressing as a form of resistance.
0:49 I misheard: "You are allowed to step of that hipster wheel"
Me too.
I’m just hoping styles are a 180 of handmaids tale fashion🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
This video is so refreshing after all of the death of personal style and 'back to basics/minimalist' fashion videos I've seen in my recommended lately
A child is spirited, free and often unbothered with how they look.
oh yeah!!! they have those leopard-y/hoof-y ones, too! you're so right - it's naive in a super cool way. love it!!!!
I’m always going to be jeans and t shirt ❤ BUT I’ve been around long enough to have some 80s 90s and 2000s and beyond jeans
The graphics tees to patchwork and 3D elements would be SOOO AMAZING!!!
As someone who works at Macy's and love it if we *did* start selling some more avant garde clothing. If only to see the reactions from my co-workers.
I feel called out... literally knitting a Sophie scarf as I watch this :-)
lol! As you should be!!
the idea of the protest wear trend sounds lovely. black bloc but make it fashion (and also harder to identify actual black bloc).
Vote for handmade from me! Upcycled, embellished, dyed, etc, etc... Thx Kathleen, love this! 😚
bc of the ~political climate~ dressing for practicality and comfort is probably going to be the baseline but i hope that trends start to be based around creativity and accessibility rather than how they have felt, which is so unattainable and not considerate to most body types. despite all the chaos, im excited to see how we continue evolving.
I think that using what we already have is going to be a huge trend. In part driven by politics and enconomics.
this top is absolutely incredible
Yes please applique! Also trending patterns for knit and crochet are so wild! (Like the six day star blanket and the Taylor Swift crochet dress). I crochet and it's always interesting to see trending patterns.
I can’t get enough of your ideas! So good.
I’m thinking, in line with your neckwear ideas, of making myself a unique bolo tie
Hearing you make a Whose Line Is It Anyway? reference (14:38) made my jagged, anxiety-riddled soul glow warmly for 2 seconds.
I’ve been seeing a lotttt of people with beanies with cute lil animal ears on them. I was in NYC this past weekend and saw so many cute hats!
Thanks for sharing Kathleen 💚💚 I really like your videos!! Please never stop creating!
Aw thanks! Don’t worry I WONT 👹👹👹
didn't realize how much I look forward to hearing that outro music at the end of every video!!! It slaps!! So cheery
Our soothsayer is back, bless us with your wizzzzdommm!!!
Not a trend follower. Big thrifter/vintage lover. I wear what I love and don't care what's "in" or what people think 🤷
I work in a professional setting and most of my professional wardrobe is thrifted from the 70s, 80s & 90s.
Kathleeeeeeen! Thank you for posting! I needed the boost of your cheering presence today! Thank you for being here. Now to watch the video…
Dressing as costume - so good and inspiring!
Honestly my personal style *is* a t-shirt and jeans, but I like it simple like that. But I'm still here vibing through your kathleen-core
YAY Kathleen video
YAY!
Great predictions Kathleen! Sounds like my funky, found object jewelry might finally get some love! (I'm excited)
Great video! I think this is all true and all good points, I hope more and more people follow their own desires and style
Awesome top Kathleen!! ❤
I think with the rise of Lola Young over the past couple months will really contribute to the “man repellant” style trend. A lot of her outfits really give that vibe and I’m living for it!
i've been searching for a good harlequin print blouse for what feels like years now so between that & the modern medieval i'm feeling very excited
I’m predicting a really big spike in a very specific shade of magenta, especially paired with olive, charcoal, cream
