Thanks for playing Elise this video was awesome 🙏 Game looks great and I'm willing to forgive a bit of menu jockeying and linear pathing if the story and mechanics hold up. Hope you're as well as you can be 🍻 Cheers and thanks!
The overall premise looks interesting and the pixelartstyle is quite lovely. Enemy design, active parry and reloads and such seems great too. But a metroidvania with a timelimit sounds just disgusting. The entire point is exploration at your own pace. A built in timer defeats this purpose. Especially if the game literally just ends when the timer is over, meaning you can lock yourself out of saves entirely. It would be fun if you had to do a bossbattle like shadow link, where you fight your character with all their gear. Also 2:25 "Being good at the game makes it easier" is just weird commentary
I feel like the review honestly did a pretty poor job of framing the time mechanic. Just to offer some more clarity... You start with about 12 hours of gameplay on Normal before your time runs out. NPC's have anywhere from 6-24 (These are all kind of rough guesses, Idk the exact values.) There's items you earn from exploring, similar to something like Heart pieces in Zelda where they're fairly easy to find and literally everywhere, and the game offers you a radar to find them easier. These items give a character 24 more in game hours of life. (Either you or an NPC, your choice.) This item is a resource though, and you can use it to upgrade yourself rather then give them away to keep other NPC's alive. The intention is clearly personal power Vs Empathy for the NPC characters. Ontop of this, if you're really concerned about time, you can push this idea of power vs Empathy to the extreme and sacrifice characters to absorb all of their remaining time for yourself, so basically if you wanted too you could juice up your own time to well over 200 hours of gameplay. Annnnnd, if you still want more time, just play on Exploration mode. The difficulties primarily play with time making the time pool tighter the higher difficult you play on. If you pick easy I feel you'd have around 20+ Hours to play a game without using any of the above mechanics to prolong it. With all that said though, I really think it's important to open yourself up to experiment with different ideas, especially with titles like this. I don't know if I really can get on board with calling an experimental mechanic "Disgusting." just because it's different then what you're used too. Moving at the pace I am, I don't think the time mechanic will be any issue at all, and I am making an effort to explore between dungeons and do the side quests the game offers.
Digging the aesthetic and gameplay shown in the review! Reminds me of Hyper Light Drifter. The overall goal of collecting the 5 thingies before you die is also neat. Will for sure play this on gamepass
Bought this game yesterday. Can't put it down. At first I couldn't get into the combat and was just getting crushed over and over by the first shadow clone dudes outside the Gear Village. But that Spider Boss served his purpose and showed me just how INSANE the parrying can be and pretty soon I was dashing around, deflecting projectiles, knocking giant bugs over, and beating the shit out of coyotes. Was during one of those moments right in the entrance of the caves where I parried two missiles back at the firers while cutting through their melee buddy that I thought "Oh shit this game might be amazing".

It's very clearly a game begging you to explore, but the time limit mechanic, while unique and interesting, actively goes against st this. The game can't choose on if it wants to be an exploration game or a story driven experience with a lot of tension. Whenever I see an optional puzzle I can't solve within a few attempts in this game, I usually just give up and move on. Puzzles that are more execution/timing based also feel like not only a waste of real world time, but also accumulates a massive penalty.
