      Great planes all. I also love the look of the F4U - The Corsair. British pilots took it and taught the US how to make effective carrier landings. The cant of the high nose caused by the large propeller sweep caused issues for US pilots at first but we learned from our British cousins how to make a safe sweeping carrier approach instead of just straight in.

      @@Optikification You utter lying moron. Why peddle Remainer crap on a Thread that is about a WWII fighter?
      1. We, unlike the rest of Europe which is happy to re-write history, NEVER EVER forget what the Polish airmen did in 1940. Just like we never forget what Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, South African and Caribbean airmen did with us. Indeed they are commemorated in various memorials around the country and every year at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday.
      2. To say they "had the most kills in the Battle of Britain" is an insult to every other pilot engaged in that combat and all the rest. Every damn one was a hero....
      3. And now let me lay your lie for what it is. We in the UK voted to leave the political ponzie scheme that is the EU. We never voted for, nor have we ever said we would, 'kick' anyone out. Indeed I would remind you it was the EU that stuck to NOT agreeing to make both EU and UK citizens future's safe and used them as political chess pieces. The UK has never said anything other than migrants here are welcome to stay regardless of where they come from. Unlike the EU on British migrants in the EU
      Remainers make me bloody puke with their lies and false information just because they lost the vote.

    Always liked the roar of the merlin, but its great to see a giffon doing its thing, a very nice piece of flying.

    When something looks good and sounds good, then you know it's going to be good. She is like a greyhound with wings. My late, great grandfather worked on servicing and repairing these flying works of art for Vader and the like and so I have a family based love and respect for what they are and what they helped achieve.

      it had a different cylinder firing order to the merlin. that why it sounds so different, more rough.

    • @robertnicholson7733
      @robertnicholson7733 4 года назад +9

      I wouldn't call the Merlin's sound sweet. It had a very distinctive exhaust note courtesy of an unusual firing order which caused early issues with the engine. I love the lazy ragged roll it gets from the rear, most classically during flybys.
      The Griffon has a more normal firing order and to me sounds much like all the other V12 aircraft engines in the sky. After the war, the Shackletons were Griffin powered and the crews weren't so happy about it and described it as emitting a really annoying high pitched whine ( 4 engined piston aircraft, hard to synchronize all the engines so you are going to get beating but the whine was a whole other thing) unlike the Merlin powered Lincolns and Lancasters. Trouble is, I read about the whine a while ago and now can't remember where, so I can't confirm my unreliable memory.
