  • Saiful Islam is a Bangladeshi dedicated to promoting Bangladeshi culture and history. Upon hearing of Dhaka muslin, an ancient ethereal muslin that was once made by skilled weavers within a small region and from a now-extinct plant, Saif put his skills to work researching the textile’s history and building its future. He spoke to the Jane Austen Society of North America's Southwest Region on this fascinating tale of artistry, textile history, colonialism, and restoration.

Bringing this fabric back to humankind not only revives a lost art, it also repairs a small amount of the damage that was done to a culture. I hope this project gets the recognition and funding that such an important endeavor deserves.
