- How to Make Stained Glass Christmas Cookies
Full Recipe: preppykitchen....
Stained glass cookies are SO EASY to make and beautiful to look at. I love seeing light peek through the centers and yes, you can decorate your tree with them, or you might prefer snacking on them straight out of the oven! There are no wrong answers here.
To make them all you have to do is cut your sugar cookies with a negative space inside, then crush your favorite hard candy and sprinkle it in the middle. Try not to get any hard candy on the sugar cookie as it will look messy. Also you really need a silicone baking mat for this, not sure baking paper would work for the release but you can let me know in the comments if you've tried it!
I’m backed up with work but instead watching your wonderful cookie recipe ❤️❤️ it’s the best mood lifter! Thanks for another great tutorial
Preppy Kitchen same to you friend and everyone else reading this comment- have the best day!
I totally agree. I love your presentation and recipes
Hey stop giving away my fashion tips!
This was my little girl’s favorite holiday cookie. It is now something she makes with her teenage daughter.
Hi guys! So excited to announce I made this recipe AND I won the cookie contest at work! "most festive " I followed your recipe but made a hole at the top and threaded a red ribbon to make them ornaments and added gold shimmer.. I won $50 which I donated to a less fortunate family :) thank you Preppy Kitchen!
calderonjd30 CONGRATS GIRLL 💞💞😫
I happy that you won it!!!
So cool!!!
Share a photo! Did u just sprinkle gold glitter over top of the cookie?
@@ummahmedca yes get the food glitter and sprinkle on top!
fill those voids in with candy - just like in real life 😂amazing
I know 😂🤣😂🤣
My autobiography...
😂😂🤣🤣🤣😅😅😅😂😂😂 Real!
😆🙌
This killed me😭🤣🤣
“Hey Cindy
lil tacky today, try something better?”
....I tried to subscribe twice 😂😂😂
I feel like that candy bag is a metaphor for my life “slightly compromised but holding it all in”
Thank you so much for considering us that do not live in North America...by including metric measurements and not waffling on about stores and shops that we have never heard of about where you buy your products. Please continue with your wonderful and easy receipes and may you have a merry Christmas.
I’ve never seen anyone who has such a genuine smile even while talking! So appreciated!
Your hubby is very lucky: you cook beautifully, keep a lovely kitchen, look like a dream AND have a sense of humour! I love your channel!
I love your humour! And your recipes of course! Have a fabulous Christmas whatever you have dangling from ears!
The SASS, oh my. "Hey Cindy, little tacky today. Try something better." I'm putting this on a t-shirt, xD I only wish I could rock it ~ great videos (always)! Amazing recipes, too (if you ever put out a cookbook, I'm buying it). You're one of my favorite foodtubers, and such an inspiration! ♥
Honestly, in the state of the world today you're a sweet reprieve. Thank you. Continued success and Happy Holidays!
***Note to self: Don't View Preppy Kitchen Videos At Work!*** I literally burst out laughing a few times just watching this video. Thank you for the recipe and the laughs, excellent content.
@@PreppyKitchen it's cool, just keep these vids coming ;)
You're so right! Many times I watch the videos at night and laugh so hard. It's great to go to bed with a happy heart.❤️🤩
I do the same thing watch his videos before bed always fall asleep in a good mood and wake up refreshed. Then make the recipe later in the week XD
I am so happy that you have weight measurements for your ingredients!
"Hey cindy little tacky today, try something better" i died 😂😂😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
🤣😂🤣😂
Such fond memories of making these cookies with my grandmother…we used to thread them with ribbon and place them in our “Christmas twig” that she had in her kitchen just to hold these and other cookie “ ornaments” Can’t wait to make these with my grandkiddos :)
If you lay down parchment paper, place the dough on top then put another sheet of parchment paper you can then use your roller to roll out the dough.
This eliminates the use of extra flour and it doesn't stick! Works great with your cookie recipe! Tried it! 😊
Poor Cindy she can’t catch a break! I love your voice, sense of humor and recipes! Keep up the good work!
“Fill in those voids with candy. Just like real life.” Yes.
I just wanted to give you a big hug when you noticed your rolling pin. I had to chuckle. I love your tutorials... you're a hoot!!
I am late to the party and just found this video. I made these today and they have to be the most attractive cookie I have ever made. Thanks for the recipe. I feel these are best for ornaments as it is a very crunchy cookie. Getting your teeth into the center is a bit of a challenge on the first bite. So these will probably not go into regular annual rotation but they will look amazing on a cookie tray.
Omg John I made these stained glass cookies for the Christmas party we had at home yesterday… it was such a hit.. all the cookies were polished…. Thank you so much… every recipe of yours that I have tried have been a roaring success… thank you thank you thank you..❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much John! My late mom used to make the best shortbread in the world. Hers were not as pretty as yours or as colourful. But now because of you, and thank you by the way, I know how to do them yay! Thanks so much John you have a wonderful night XXX Willow
I tried wax paper in the oven before and it burnt/melted waxy smell. I think you meant parchment/baking paper. It works.
You absolutely are my fav chef🙌 Love your comments & recipes🫶🏼
I need you in my life!!! You are knowledgeable but the best teacher ever!!! Thank you!!
I made this for Christmas and they came out perfectly!! I used parchment paper because I don’t have a silpat, and they came off after cooling. Thank you for this recipe. The no-spread cookies were perfect cut-outs with zero brown edges! 😁🎄💗👍🏻
I think you're the best thing on RUclips. Thank you, John. You have the best recipes, and humor!!
Omg that looks great! Perfect for valentines day! And i love how your not afraid of being judged about being gay! I think imma sub now
thanks and welcome to the channel!!!
I'm not sure why youtube thought I would like your channel but they were absolutely right! I don't cook and I definitely don't bake but I have seriously been binge watching you for a few days now. Your idea's are amazing, even if I will likely never try one LOL. The real pull for me, is you!! I love your witty banter and quirky comments. You are so much fun to watch!! And you never know, I might just give some of your idea's a try....you do make it seem appealing :) Lots of luv and keep up the great work.
I used this recipe a couple days ago (I had it saved from one of your previous videos) and I will never use another sugar cookie recipe again! It’s absolutely the best ever. 💯
ClaraZasso I just attempted to make it. My dough came out very crumbly and dry. Any thoughts?
My dough did the same thing. It was so crumbly I added more butter . It was also very bland. I managed to get a few shapes and hang on the 🌲 but I won't use it again
I used to make these in high school, but everyone complained that the candy either sent them to the dentist or would melt when they left them by the lights or windows....so yea. Sticking to gingerbread and shortbread. Loved watching you make these though, very nostalgic.
Thank you I was about to ask if the candy would be hard to bite lol
I was watching and thinking "Oooh that's so pretty. How the heck do you eat the candy in the middle?"
Yeah I'll stick to snickerdoodles and biscotti this season.
I love all of your videos. There is something about your voice that makes it so easy to follow you and stay engaged. My daughter and I are going to make these this weekend and I simply cannot wait. You are the BEST!!!!!
I seldom take time to comment but you more than deserve the effort. Love every recipe I have tried of yours and it’s hard to wait for your next one. You are great
I love this! "Now we're going to fill in those voids in with candy. Just like real life!"
I laughed so hard I woke my baby
"oh no my rolling pin.." I felt that. I really did.
I cracked up.
" Upz my rolling pin " love that than that cute cookies ♥♡
I loved the expression " Keep an eye on to them " Chuck Chuck 😃
Very cute! With those, it may be a good idea to add food coloring to the dough, too. Not for all of them. But perhaps 1/2 of them.
I made them today for my grandkids. They were delighted.
I made your sugar cookies a couple of days ago, and they are amazing! I've been trying to find a recipe for sugar cookies, and these are by far my fave! Making more today :-D
Wow, you seems to amaze me all the time. You are one of the best teacher ever a child could learn with you, seems to be very patient.
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for, they look absolutely perfect. I'll be making them tomorrow!
Great recipe John !...yep I made them ! ...I customized mine I made my own shapes by hand.I just rolled the dough out by hand into a rope then shaped it to what I wanted.
I actually made these last week and they turned out AMAZING. I was worried about the candy part but I got it first try!
"Hey Cindy..."
I remember making Stained Glass cookies with my mom when I was a kid. There always seemed to be a few pieces of crushed candies that made it onto the cookie itself. Haven't thought of them in years. Might need to try using your recipe. Thanks. *LK*
Look forward to your videos...half for the recipe and half for the joy that you share with your smile! Thank you!
This now is officially my favorite channel.
Can't wait to make these! You just always make me happy. My husband calls it my 'Preppy Kitchen Time'... to relax and get in a better mood. Thank you for that :)
Being Hmong, most of us have a lao style mortar and pestle, which id most likely use the pestle to shatter the candy.... but thats usually because a lot of us also dont really bake so no rolling pins. But i love your vids and enthusiasm. it has inspired me to start living in the kitchen again.
"Now you have a beautiful ornament for your tree that which will be eaten or... ya know... destroyed quickly... BUT look how cute it is right now!" Lol I love it 😂👌🏻💖
I tried the cookie dough recipe and what a success. They taste as good as they look. So enjoy the videos.
I must make these. And they will go right to that Christmas tree.
Save a couple for Cindy
Just popped my cookies in the oven I'm so excited! I am in love with the feel/stability of this dough and can't wait to see how it looks and tastes out of the oven. Your video is def the best/easiest to follow on youtube for stained glass cookies. I had to keep rewinding to get the exact measurements and oven temp/timing though(could just be me..) so it would be awesome if you had the ingredients and oven temp writen down in the discription/one place at the end of the video. Going to try your gingerbread cookies next! Keep putting out these amazing recipes!
The recipe is linked in the description.
the link to the written recipe is in the desc right at the top
Today I going to make these one w with old-fashioned Dutch handmade candy.. Thanks for this recipe
Omg! All I want now is to wear them as earrings. Snack on the go and fashionable!
Right?! LOLOLOL
Haha :)
You are my go-to cooking-baking presentor for so much and the recipes turn out!!!
Oh my goodness that earring joke is priceless. You are a love. These are nice but have you seen the ones where they are actually double paned with jiggly sprinkles inside? I was like what just happened!! The Baker inside of me freak out!!!!
For those, start like these, then glue two together with white chocolate after filling with sprinkles.
@@LurkerSmurf True enough!
Welp, when I need some zen, I just find a vid of yours and I get lost in your kind voice. Thank you for being you!
Those stained glass cookies are amazing.
I've seen a few of your videos, I enjoy seeing what you bake, I get great ideas.
You have a good sense of humor.
Can't wait for more videos.
Fan from Canada.
Years ago made these when my kids were little, they were very nice.
I haven’t made these in years...inspired to add these to the mix this cookie season. 🍪
Made these cookies yesterday with my son. Very easy and fun to make, and very tasty. Was very pleased with working dough and the whole process. Thank you for this great recipe +++++
I have no intention of making these, but I find comfort in drinking my morning coffee and watching him bake??
THANK YOU for the cornstarch tip! Can this trick be used on other types of cookies as well?
I've never heard of cornstarch. I've always just chilled the dough, and then chilled again before baking. I laughed when he said let them cool completely, then said he waited 2 minutes. My defination of cooling completely would be half hour at least. But these look beautiful, and I bet they taste great too.
making sugar cookies today. your recipe seems to be the best version because i dont want to wait over night just to cut my cookie dough and freak out about how fast i do them so they stay cold. i also see most of those recipes spread. im going to make some regular sugar cookies now... wish me luck haha
UPDATE:
I just finished baking the cookies. They held their shape perfectly but i aslso added about 1/2 cup or more of sugar. Theyre PERFECT. Cant wait to decorate them tomorrow with royal icing. Will for sure be making again. I will also gift the cookies tomorrow after the icing dries.
So once I tried this sugar cookie recipe it's seriously the only one that I make. It's super bomb! It's so easy to work with
Luv those stained glass cookies! Very festive ,edible ornaments.
I made these for Christmas 2020 and everyone enjoyed them. Thank you for sharing your recipe
Looks absolutely festive and beautiful! Since I don't use eggs in any of my baking I will try this one with all the ingredients minus the eggs. There are some recipes whereby the pit dome sprinklers and seal them with the cookies that are whole. That as well looks very festive through the colourful glass pane like cookies! You are full of positivity, energy and happiness and I wish you many more this Christmas 🎄 and the year to come! Merry Christmas 🎄⛄ & Happy New Year full of good health, wealth and prosperity!
Baking paper worked a treat
‘A little tacky today’, I died.
Ikr 🤣🤣
I laughed out loud. Thankfully, I'm alone or it'd be weird explaining why a cookie recipe video is hilarious.
😂😂😂
These have become a tradition to make! Thank you so much!
So easy and beautiful ❤️
I'm so glad i found this channel 😍😍
Merry Christmas 🎄
I just made these....fantastic dough to work with...cookies were amazing...dough was delicious....you are amazing....love your videos....I used peppermint candy canes instead of Jolly Ranchers..Merry Christmas 🌲
I recently found your channel and just love watching your tutorials. They are funny and realistic and educational. Can't stop watching. :-)
I like the idea of putting see through colored glass:) thank you for this idea :) I might make it for special occasions :)
I love your videos John! Recipes are so simple and awesome, I am just as clumsy as you and I love that you don’t even try to hide it. As a chef I take my hat off for you and I will just say - keep up the good work and keep those recipes coming! The only thing I don’t get is those thumbs down, guess it’s just jealous people. They are everywhere!
I am so excited to try this!! My son wanted to make these again, but I need to be gluten free. So excited that you had a recipe for it!! Love all the recipes I make from you!!
I baked on parchment paper and it worked great.
Love it. Pro tip use the jolly rancher left overs from Halloween
I love your videos. Your recipes turn out perfect every time and it's so helpful how you convert measurements grams!
Its also very useful how you give troubleshooting tips as you go.
Your recipe webpages are done in a template that makes it super easy to filter for the info I need.
Thanks again, John. Keep up the good work!! ;)
Love your recipes and humor!! You have taught me so much about baking.
I been making mine for few months now, made a few 2 tone and 3 tone ones. They came out amazing....
😀Glad you mentioned this. Now thinking of⛪church window cookies,🤔humm.
🌟Merry🎄Christmas🌟
I tried this and it was DELICIOUS thank you for the recipe ❤
You make a bad day great!!!! You are so super funny! Have a wonderful holiday!
Omg, I just watched your video and I will definitely try this recipe, thank you! Love your energy!!!!! Amazing
Thank you so much John, I am thrilled with these cookies. I am going to TN. To see my two young grandsons an guess what we will be making. I think they will love them. Merry Christmas to you and your family!!
#HEYCINDY
KIMBERLAND did you ever make his recipe? If so, what did yall think?
Perfect opportunity for some royal icing 😃 These look amazing!
Such pretty cookies to make with children! I love your how to videos!
Years ago I made some gingerbread houses. I used this technique for the windows - using 2-3colors per. The Jolly Ranchers seem to start to melt and drip after a few days. I switched to sour balls and never had that problem again. However, I don't think they come in blue. I used the Ice Blue Mints to make a pond, but they're too nasty to eat in these beautiful cookies.
Saw it
Loved it
Made it... it definetly is foolproof. The cookies are looking awesome.
Greets from Germany thank you for sharing the recipe
Those cookies are gorgeous. Love it! Need to make some, probably for next Christmas. Thanks for sharing!
I made these for Christmas when I was a kid and I loved them!
