    Been looking at sandals this past week and the shamma look pretty good, especially where the strap doesn't pull all the little piggies to one side and no side straps on the sides of the foot pad to pull in the big toe or pinky toe or squeeze the sides of the foot.
    Warriors seem really good for the barefoot feel.
    I looked at those and the mountain goats for something a bit more aggressive, but they have full ranges on thickness, as well as other models with different strapping, and their elite system looks comprehensive and well thought out.
    Thank you for showing these.

      Yea, there've got a great range of configs to cover pretty much anything you'd want to do. The Power Straps definitely help hold your foot back, as well.

      Yea, Shamma's got the best straps in the game. Good to know shipping was so fast to the UK. Have fun!

    I wore them everyday for a year for casual use, walked about five miles a day in them (not very far to me). Tread on the bottom was worn out in under six months. Straps broke after exactly a year. Shamma essentially said "sucks to suck." I wouldn't get them again. They are the most comfortable but for how little I put them through and how quickly they wore out, I would go for a more reliable brand.
    The plugs actually did bother me pretty badly starting out. My feet are insanely tough from running barefoot (no shoes at all) but I got blisters from walking two hours. eventually my feet figured it out and the plugs wore down.

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  Год назад

      Weird, they have a Vibram sole, so I'm surprised that happened to you. I have the same sole on other shoes that've lasted for years. Defect, maybe? But yea, I'm not impressed with Shamma's customer service. Maybe the plugs didn't bother me, because my feet are skinny from soccer cleats or something.

      What did you walk on most of the time that made them wear down this fast? I'm asking because I love mine too and I might change some things to make them last longer according to your experience.

    Hi Andrew,
    Looking to buy my first pair of minimalist sandals for myself and my wife. Would love to know your thoughts between the Shamma Sandals Warrior, Xero Z Trek, and the Earth Runners Chrono. Thanks in advance!

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  3 месяца назад

      Hey Matthew,, the Warrior's have the best lockdown for running, although they require some DIY padding (finger cut off an old glove will work) to soften the hard posts. The Z-Trek is nice if you don't like toe thongs, although it's more narrow. Earth Runners never really impressed me and the Chronos seems the worst of both worlds with minimal cord lacing yet a stiffer 9mm sole. My personal favorite is the Toetem BlackBear ruclips.net/video/bU1cweEMjVA/видео.html, which has the same 5mm Vibram sole as the Warrior's, but with much more comfortable straps. If you want something thicker, they just released a Frontier edition with a more aggressive Vibram sole for rougher terrain, which I'm stoked to try.

    The Shamma Warriors are an amazing alternative to the Xero Genesis models for a more secure fit and...my favorite part...NO SLAPPING. I swear, the slapping on my Genesis models was driving me insane. But a word of caution: maybe don't take the Warriors on sharp gravel. I did so and wound up with a torn plantar plate. However, the Warrior Maximus, Mountain Goats, TrailStar Maximus, or the TrailStar Alphas are all Shamma models that can take gravel just fine.

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  Год назад

      Yea, I'd imagine the Warrior's wouldn't hold up on thicker/sharper rocks. Nice that they have lots of other tough options.

    Hey Andrew, this comment is not related to the video at all. I wanted to say thank you for changing my life. I used to be a runner as a kid and in high school.. I gave up for 10 years after that and now I have been getting into it again. My first vivo Primus shoes just arrived in the mail. I think I discovered you while looking at digital minimalism stuff.. and I think I'm also about to finally buy a light phone. I've been subscribed for a few months. My point is I really love your channel and you give off such positive and calming energy. Would you be willing to make videos showing how you make videos? Or if you sold a course on editing I would buy it.. Thanks :)

      Hey Lia, very nice of you to say. Really excited for you embarking on your own minimalist journey with the LP and Primus! I've ben working on a secret long-form video about my plans for the channel, and part of it involves YouTubing/filmmaking guides, so stay tuned. (:

    Andrew! Just wanted to say I love your videos. Just found your channel as I’m transitioning to barefoot-esque running after 4 years off due to various injuries.
    First step: got some vivos. Love them. Second step got some altras to mix things up. Third step… sandals. I started with Luna. But don’t love them. The straps are a pain.
    Now I’m looking at the shaman warriors or the Maximus. Have you looked at the Maximus yet? Any thoughts? Thank you in advance! Keep up the great work.

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  Год назад

      Hey Sara, congrats on the switch! The Maximus would be fine for trails, but I try to go as thin as possible for roads, since more agility = softer landing. Either way, you might need to wrap a bit of fabric over the heel strap posts, as they have an edge and can rub.a bit uncovered.

    You should try the shamma trailstars that have a big toe loop instead of a toe thong. More stability for hikers- esp when wet and going up/downhill, which is the real test.

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  Год назад

      Yea, I've always wanted to try a toe loop sandal. I wish they made the Warrior's with a toe loop, because the Trailstars are just too thick for me.

    • @RC-qf3mp
      @RC-qf3mp Год назад

      @@AndrewFolts they have three thicknesses of trailstars. Trailstars Maximus (despite name) is thinnest. Good ground feel. Should be called minimus.

    These look great but are they grounded? So far, Eathrunners are the only grounded sandals I've found

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  Год назад

      No, there aren't many grounded brands. Having tried conductive footwear I can't say I noticed any differences health-wise, but some people swear by it.

    How is the sizing of the Warrior compared to the Monk Ruivo?
    In the video it looks like you have some extra space at the front of your sandals in the Warriors but the Ruivos fits your feet better. Did you get the same size in each? Do you recommend getting the same size in each? Maybe the Warriors run larger. I’m interested in a pair of the Ruivos but not sure what size to order. I wear a size 11 in the Warrior and they fit perfectly. I have pretty wide feet. A lot of the extra space on your Warriors is past your three smallest toes on the outside edge, but my feet and toes go right up to those edges. I’d appreciate any feedback to help me make a good size decision. Thanks!

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  10 месяцев назад +1

      The Warrior's seem to run long (or at least when I bought them). I usually wear a 10/10.5 and their 9 fits me perfectly, but I often size down for sandals. The Monk's have a slightly wider toebox and ankle area, which I like. I'd check the sizing templates for both and see how they compare. You could even use a photo editing program to superimpose one over the other. Just make sure you've got the scales the same.

    Which of the sandals mentioned do you recommend the most? Which of them avoid using real leather?

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  10 месяцев назад

      For a vegan sandal the Xero Z-Trek bit.ly/3QqZ6e6 has been my favorite the past six years. Shamma's also don't use leather in the regular Warrior and they're a good option for when you need more straps and security for technical running.

      Thanks for the reply. Looking closely at the pictures, is it just me or does the front strap appear to push the big toe in? All the pictures are basically bunioned big toes. Very strange.

    Tossing up between these and Xero genesis, which do you prefer for the same price?

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  Год назад

      The Genesis is more flexible but less secure for technical terrain, and the Warrior's are more secure but a bit fussy with all the straps. I'd say I use the Genesis more, unless I'm doing serious hills, etc.

    • @keneticchannel
      @keneticchannel Год назад

      I think the Xero Genesis are a great entry sandal into the world of barefoot huarache style sandals to see if you like them or not. However, if you run on concrete or asphalt in them, get ready for a loud slapping that may or may not drive you half insane. That alone inspired me to pick up some Warriors.
