    ✅ About AEA Ribbon Mics & Preamps:
    AEA Ribbon Mics and Preamps is family owned and operated in beautiful Pasadena, California. Proudly independent, we still manufacture all our microphones by hand right here in the United States.
    Since the creation of the R44C in 1998, AEA has expanded into designing and building new ribbon microphones, each with a unique application and function, using the same RCA traditions. Over the years, AEA has advanced ribbon technology, using new materials, updated manufacturing techniques. The company now makes a whole line of ribbon mics that can be configured to give a group of musicians a unique sonic signature.

    AEA (and Buckets Moving Company) get how to demo a mic more than any other manufacturer - the fact that they design and build with the same creativity and consistency is so well reflected in the artists and videos they have put together in the last few months. I've been saving for a (more affordable) pair, but the A440 just blows me away every time I hear it in action. A pair of those would be expensive but I'm sure unmistakable.

      absolutely agree. I've been studying recording arts in college with the hopes of designing my own studio and i'm actually blown away with the amount of creativity this demo has given. Absolutely buying one when the budget agrees with me.

    One of the best ribbon vocal examples I've heard on RUclips! That it wasn't over processed or that the preamp didn't add too much "condenser" high-end is a real blessing. Great performance and assuming that it's a Single Mike recording shows how nicely you can pick up ambience in a room. Of course the reveal shows this room is completely empty and the hard floors walls etc. and you can hear that as well. with headphones on or on good speakers The proximity effect is a bit pronounced and it would be interesting to hear the same performance using the voice setting which ,would also allow the performer to work the mic a little more without fear of proximity and popping P's or other plosives. and/or a windscreen but in the M setting proximity could still be an issue saturating the low-end. All in all it's a great example of how these mics give not only true smooth frequency response more like natural human ear response to sound in the air but also shape to the sound which often is flattened out for some reason another microphones designs. I've often wondered if it's the figure of eight that helps give the shape to the sound, definitely a function of volume - dynamics.

      Mate I'm not sure what you mean by "preamp adding too much "condenser" high end"? Condenser microphones project a condenser high end not preamps. A microphone sounds a particular way and most condensers unfortunately have a really rubbish top end. The ones that don't cost a fair whack. Preamps have a sound yes but the shitty top end you hear on most condensers is the microphone itself. The only condenser that I was able to find under 5k that's rather excellent is the Neumann 47 fet reissue. Condensers in general are a very poor value for money proposition.

    • @TiqueO6
      @TiqueO6 3 года назад

      @@Screaming-Trees oh I fully agree that condenser mics have way too much top and completely unnatural, a holdover from the pre-emphasis stage is my suspicion, used to be handy but not anymore!
      But I have noticed a difference between my passive and active ribbon mics and I do have quite a few that the high-end is not as sweet and that is kind of what I was getting it along with that they tend to seem to accentuate the high-end. But I haven’t done a full ABd. yet with my Neves which are so transparent, I completely expect that I’ll find a higher quality pres add less coloration all around. My favorite quote is “ribbon mics are the only real Microphones!”

    I wish I had the money for this mic. It just sounds like the most incredible ribbon mic. Mario Lanza used an original 44 on a lot of his recordings. I would love to hear my voice through this.

    If you could see me now, you'd know how blue I've been
    One look is all you'd need to see the mood I'm in
    Perhaps then you'd realize I'm still in love with you
    If you could see me now, you'd find me being brave
    And trying awfully hard to make my tears behave
    But that's quite impossible, I'm still in love with you
    You'll happen my way on some mem'rable day
    And the month will be May for a while
    I'll try to smile but can I play the part

    I just ordered an R84, based on this and a couple of other videos, to replace an MXL R144-to be used on trumpet and vocal. I, too, am simply blown away by the consistent warm purity of the AEA mics. To AEA: I cannot find any information on the noise floor of the R84. Can you please share that? Only for curiosity...thank you!

    • @Ribbonmics
      @Ribbonmics  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Danny, thanks for your kind words about our microphones. We are so glad to hear that the R84 has worked its magic for you. The noise floor for the R84 passive ribbon is -130dB.

    Is it ok to keep this mic upside down? Im using a heavy duty latch lake stand which works best holding mics upside down. I know tube mics can benefit from it but im curious if living upside down could be bad for a ribbon mic?

    • @Ribbonmics
      @Ribbonmics  Год назад +1

      No problem upside down. Just keep it covered when not in use if you leave it on the stand all the time.
