My car , your car , your wife's car or anyone's car as matter of fact.. is not a fncking delivery vehicle for mechanics!!

I bought a 1991 Miata and took it to a jiffy lube to have all the fluids changed, and last second I figured I'd get the battery health checked as well. Im a manager in a diesel shop so out of habit I watched the guys do everything. I had installed a push button start so I had my keys in my hand the entire time, and when he was finished I asked the tech in front of his manager how the battery tested and he said "oh, it was at 85% life".
I turned to the manager as said "that's funny cause the battery is in the trunk and I have the keys". The look on the techs face was priceless and the manager did the test himself and didn't charge me for it.
Never went back there but I now get the battery checked at every service just to test the shops honesty.

If you're the manager of a diesel shop you should have access to a battery analyzer, a professional one such as a midtronic's like the one i currently own. Something does not sound right here. Also they need the key fob to drive the vehicle in so you wouldn't have the key so there would be no way for them to do that, again makes no sense.

    • @Irishrebel092

@@404notfound..... we have a midtronics and an autometer. Also if you go back and read my comment, I said that I installed a push button start. You do not need the key to start the car, and yes the steering wheel lock has been bypassed. The only thing you need the key for on my Miata is unlock the doors and open the truck. The 1991 Miata didn't come with a truck pop latch, it's key only

Why in gods name do people still take their cars to dealerships outside of warranty? Do people not realize that local, independent shops can only stay in business by doing good work? Dealerships will always get work just because they have the brand name over the door. Regardless off the quality of the work they do. Same thing with big chain lube shops.

    • @petersachs764

In this case I'm under the impression that one would take their car to a dealership to do a proper transmission flush using the manufacturer recommended tools, techniques and special proceedures/training required for the job. Such service tools and or skills possibly not available to your average mechanic. Obviously from this video, one can't assume anything from a dealer other than dealer service pricing.

@@siemenscs if u were smart and knew how the prices are made then u would know that we go off of how many hrs the car manufacturers say its gonna take to fix that certain part. We literally find out whats wrong and look up how many hrs its gonna take to replace the part and fix the car. Obviously with any and everything that is repetitive, u eventually learn how to do it the fastest. Yes the manufacturers eventually will adjust the time and lower it which fucks the techs in the long run. If u wanna be mad about paying more….. be mad at the dealership. Its not a 50% spilt between the techs and the dealership anymore. More Like 70-30 aka the dealership makes most of it.

@@RCMAN23 Why are you insulting me? I just asked a simle question to better understand what you meant. Knowing something does not make you smart but knowledgeable. Trust me I do understand what you mean. Even though you dont think Im smart, I happen to be a systems engineer for a tech company and I have field service techs working for me. Just as you explained, we do have pre-determined timeframes for different jobs to be quoted to our customers. Some of our techs are more experienced than others and some are faster than others. However, we never ever charge our customers a pre-determined labor amount. The techs charge the customer as long as they work. If the labor hours discrepancy between 2 techs is 2 hours on a 3 hours quoted job then theres other issues there. That my friend gets adjusted right away not eventually. We also give our customers the right to pick and choose the techs they want. That is called honesty. If mechaincs are honest but dealers are crooks then you will take a part of that blame as long as you work for them. You cannot become a part of a scheme and pass the blame to the other guy. I do know how the prices are determined. I might just not know the crook ways of dealerships take advantage of customers and make others believe in their scheme so good so they are able to make them their own free advocates. Good luck to you.
