    Excellent overview! One thing I’ll add to the critique of the cost of the cruise is that (with minor exceptions), you no longer have to pay for food, drinks, desserts, snacks. And the personal touch on those is incomparable - Disney World will charge through the nose for every little bit. That equalizes the costs significantly.

    Very well informed video, Blair! Having taken 16 cruises on Disney, and about as many Disney World vacations, I'd make one observation regarding "dining options". While it is true there are less locations from which to choose on the ship, the variety of menu options changes from location to location, and even nightly within the main dining room rotation. For that reason, we have never felt as if we were confined to the "same old/same old" on a Disney cruise. With that said, I appreciate the depth of thought you put into the subject matter. Well done, and thank you!

    I loved this video!! I just got back from my first trip to Walt Disney World and I am happily exhausted. I think I experienced all of the pros and cons that you mentioned in the video. I watched a lot of your videos as I prepared for the trip, and the information was very helpful. I hope to go on a Disney cruise on day.

    Okay so I'm getting ready to take notes because I'm going with my entire family (10 adults plus a baby!) to Disneyworld in just a couple of months but the topic of a Disney cruise for our next big vacay has already come up! I'm excited! Also Blair, if you can remember - what is the lip product you're wearing?? I love it! Okay, pushing play NOW! :)

    We are planning our trip finally! So excited. Your videos have been very informative, thank you. We originally booked Disney World but wouldn't you know everything was sold out for the time period we want to go, and this is six months out. We did find a room on the resort but it wasn't for the length of time we desired. Then all the coordinating and planning with reserving theme parks and airline flights, traveling between parks with a six year old was stressing me out. So we cancelled that and are going on a cruise. I feel like we made the right choice. The cruise will cater to us and there's little walking which I know my six year old can't handle for too long. We feel like we are getting a long needed relaxation vacation that our little one will still enjoy. Hopefully we love it!

    Hi Blair! Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video. Lots of great information for families trying to decide on a Disney vacation! We are a family of 3, two adults and 1 child. As a family, we have visited WDW every year for five years and cruised with DCL for the last three years. For us, we love both so much that we combine both vacations into one! We usually travel from Nov-Jan, we've found the crowds are lower at this time at WDW. We are also the type of family that go during RP, take a break after lunch to relax at the pool or take a nap and go back at night for the parades/fireworks. We have been blessed with great weather on every cruise so far! It has been warm enough to lay out at the pool every time! I think one of the pros to DCL are the Character meets! The lines aren't long and there are several chances to see them! In WDW, I'd rather spend that time riding an attraction! There are also rare moments(like Goofy sleepwalking and walking around the stateroom hallways in his pajamas and slippers, haha!). When we book our vacation, we've found that a 5 day WDW trip and a 7 day DCL is great for us. We save money on DCL by not booking excursions(we do like to shop at ports for a couple of hours). This year, we are going on DCL first and then WDW. It will help us burn off the calories from eating so much on the cruise, haha! I'll let you know how it goes!

    Thanks for taking the time to compile all that information. As someone who has never cruised before, both this video and your daily cruise blogs have been very helpful. I don’t think anything could replace trips to Disney World, I’m sure there will be a Disney Cruise in my future. Thx! 😊

    Having done both many times, I view the Disney Cruise as a 5th park that you cannot park-hop from. My experience without thinking about is: wdw about 3-5 times, then DCL, repeat!

    I have the same back problem that you have. My biggest problem is standing in lines. My lifesaver is a cane with a seat built in. The one I love is by drive medical. They have two models I have both my favorite is the four pronged sling seat. Any trip I go on I take this cane. Saves me from severe back pain at the end of the day. The cane is around 30 dollars I got mine on target but they also have it on walmart, and amazon

    I agree with your personal Walt Disney Parks VS Cruise opinion. We live 30 mns from the Disney parks and just went on our first Disney Cruise. We went on the 3 day Dream cruise and found it too short. Our cruise was a family wedding event so because we were so busy with family, especially on Wed day, we didn't get to do as many things as we wished we could had. Got to go to all night shows... loved Beauty and the Beast! But only got to spend like 20 mns of Castaway. :( For us, because we live so close to Walt Disney we'll keep going to the parks. My favorite is also Epcot and the countries. Would LOVE to go on a long Disney Cruise in the future. Would go again tomorrow if it wasn't that expensive. Great video! ^_^

    Both are memorable vacations and equally expensive. For a family of three a week in Disney world including resort, parking, theme parks and food could be close in price to a 4 nights cruise.

    I must say, this is the first vacation-themed video I've seen that had a pie chart included. I crunch numbers for a living, that's why it stood out to me.
    Getting back to the topic, I am interested in how did staying on property compare to your experience aboard the cruise ship. Leaving out the parks and the ports, just the fixed hotel vs. floating hotel aspects.
    Thanks for presenting this topic.

    • @BlairLamb
      @BlairLamb  6 лет назад +1

      Haha, I'm glad you appreciated the pie chart! ;) I haven't stayed deluxe at WDW in a long time; we usually stay moderate. Our stateroom on the cruise was nicer (to us) than our moderate hotel rooms. Plus the turndown service! Can't be beat. However, from what I understand, there are a lot of similarities between a deluxe room at WDW and the staterooms. Of course, if you're looking for more space, WDW will [almost] always beat out the cruise staterooms.

    Hi Blair! You worked so hard on this video and it's so much appreciated! Great job I haven't been on a Disney cruise, but other cruises and agree, it is relaxing. I don't expect to relax at all during my trip to WDW in 2019 but that's okay, I already know what to expect. I think it really comes down to what you are looking for in a vacation. Also I think sometimes just staying at one of the Disney resorts can also offer so many things to do, but I hardly see anyone talk about what the resorts offer as well. But again, just hanging out at the resort pool can also be relaxing. This was very helpful and thank you for taking the time to put all this work into it.

    I have to admit Disney cruises ARE THE BEST! Disney World was our #1 choice on vacationing which we did every year because we loved it but once we took our first Disney cruise. There was no denying Disney cruises are #1. I would recommend experiencing Disney world first rather than the cruise but if i had to choose from world or cruise. CRUISE would totally win it.

    I love you and I love your always insightful, professional, and graceful videos! Thank you for sharing your life with us! One question/comment: I’m a mom to two very high-energy boys. Just watching your vlog showing the veranda gave me anxiety thinking about my kids falling off the ship! 🤣 I know, I’m one of those...lol! How safe did you feel out there? Are you a person who’s afraid of heights like me?

    • @BlairLamb
      @BlairLamb  6 лет назад

      Hahaha, I can understand that. First of all, the doors are very hard to open. The handle locks the door and there's a second lock up top. Additionally, while on the verandah, there were still decks below us that jutted out. Meaning, if we fell off the verandah, we'd still land on the ship. We definitely felt safe, but if you're worried, maybe opt for a porthole without a verandah!

    I'd add one more pro that I didn't think to mention and one positive experience that I can't remember if I mentioned. :) My mom is in a wheelchair and isn't really able to go on many rides at Disney. She doesn't mind and just enjoys being in the magic, but when she joins us on our next cruise, she'll actually be able to participate in so much on the ship. There will still be some issues with accessibility for port adventures, but there's so much to do on the ship that she can do instead.
    I was a bit concerned about the kids club because my son is a type 1 diabetic and I'd heard varying stories about what counselors would/would not allow in regards to him carrying his supplies with him in his backpack. I had absolutely no issues at all and it was such a relief. Each counselor who checked him in took a moment to review his medical notes when they popped up on the screen, acknowledged that they understood, and welcomed him with a smile. He had a wave phone on him to contact me if he needed to and I felt such confidence in allowing him to play freely there.

    I love both, and like you it’s hard to decide between the two. However, if I was made to choose one, it has to be Disney Cruise Line! DCL just has a much calmer experience. I feel character experiences are better and more personalized. In the parks, you get a picture and then it’s over!
    I also love the ocean, so I love having Disney AND the ocean!
    I’ve actually been on a merrytime cruise and it’s beautiful! The tree lighting ceremony os the best part. They have the characters all dressed and everyone sings carols and light up the tree, it feels so nostalgic!
    Our cruise in September is a Halloween cruise, which I’ve never done. So I’ll have to let you know!
    I have also done WDW for Halloween and Christmas

    Thanks for the comparison video. I've been researching both for our next vacation and this helped make my decision-WDW! We've never been to either but after pricing, the deluxe resort for 7 days with park hoppers including the water parks for our family of 4 comes out to half the price of 5 day cruise with a veranda cabin. I was wondering if the cruise was worth the extra cost but the parks sound like a better value. Maybe DCL some other time.

    Such a great and positive perspective. I agree with you on all points. Disney will always have the edge on service. We have been on 4 disney cruises and all of them were amazing. However with that said, I can't justify the extreme cost for disney cruise. I can take 2 sometimes even 3 cruises for the price of just one disney cruise. Would you ever consider trying another cruise line to compare?? We tried royal caribbean after disney and loved them. You should give it a try.

      Stefanie Stoler , I agree. We went on a 9 night cruise (2017) on Royal (Northern Europe) for 1500 person with a balcony room. We went on Disney Cruise with our kids and my 5 year ( he is now 22) liked it but we went on Royal and Carnival and he loved the kids club (less kids) Sometimes it’s not all about the mouse.

    I haven't been to WDW but I have been to Disneyland and the DCL. I LOVE the park and I LOVE LOVE the rides. But not everyone in my party does or can due to motion sickness. So for my family it's more worthwhile to go on the cruise.
    The reason we started to cruise was because we had our 2nd child. And I didnt want to keep going back and forth to put him down for naps. To all you mommies out there that your babies sleep in public be very thankful. Mine absolutely refuse. 😭 so for us the cruise made sense since the rooms was always close by and my older son didnt miss out because of the baby.
    Another plus for me is I didnt have to worry about the money for the food. Our Disneyland trip I had put aside $1000 for our 6 night stay for a family of 3 just for meals, snack and drinks. On the ship that price is already including in the cost of the cruise.

      That's definitely true! Interestingly, many of the responders were on longer, more adventurous cruises and they still found DCL to be more slow-paced and relaxing than WDW. I'd like to go on a longer cruise and see for myself! Thanks for watching, Michele!

      That's interesting. I have my first cruise booked for summer 2019, and I chose the same itinerary as you took (I think my search history for the Disney Dream is how I found your channel). I chose it in part because i've never cruised before and wanted a taste, and the port- intensive itineraries sounded exhausting.
