French's mustard is only good for hotdogs, in my experience!
For beef sandwiches or good sausages, English mustard has a proper kick!
But each to their own. 🙂

German mustard goes best with sausages. Look for anything labelled " scharfer senf ".

I like how the onions are charred and sat on top as opposed to some places that just boil the raw onion in with the gravy

A great pub the Angel, used to walk here from Tower Bridge. Love the snug door, so low…. You should try the Mayflower which is along the path towards Rotherhithe. Used to pass the Ship on the way back, never seemed to be open at lunch.

Looks great. You can have all the fancy foods, at the end of the day you love what you grew up with. Bangers and mash with onion gravy hits the spot. It’s not till you live abroad you realize how much you miss the simple things. Keep the vids coming and I will keep eating vicariously through them.

i can appreciate the quality, skill and ingredients used in a 'fine dining' experience and those who prepare it. but there's something to be said for the good 'ol simple things also. bangers, mash and onion gravy. wonderful.

Love bangers, mash and onion gravy. I always find I won't order it when I go out as I can cook it for 25% of the cost at home, and it's likely 60% as good as eating out. Whereas the full English videos, I'd struggle to make them anywhere near as good and have to buy too many ingredients. I usually try and order stuff I can't do at home on a decent budget. Roast dinner is a speciality of mine, but I live alone so it's not particularly cost effective, so if I fancy one I'll go out.

Pity about ‘The Angel’ Darren…loved how it had the seating at the back looking on to the ‘dirty old river’….it looked amazing…but they didn’t seem very accommodating…their loss!…..but ‘The Ship’ saved the day with a hearty looking lunch…..I just love seeing all these great places in London away from all the usual tourist traps…keep up the good work…Cheers, Kenny.

Bangers and mash is just comfort food you just can’t go wrong with that. You may think it’s weird of me but I like mustard and tomato sauce with my sausage, mash and onions.

I was not going to make a comment. However, seeing that you had to change your plan and ended up at The Ship. There is a pub call The Ship in Wandsworth, not sure if they are a chain of pubs/restaurant. I remember having lovely Sunday roast, overlooking the river. They also do barbeques during the summer. It is a lively, popular place. Have not been in a while. So may have change.

Little over enthusiatic with the gravy:-) The Ship was always good though, proper bangers and mash. I used to love the whitebate and liver and onions there. Nice crowd. Onions perfect. The Angel was always a funny pub, not so keen; mind you I'm a west London lad:-) Love the videos of The Smoke takes me back to younger days. Great job Darren!

Try lemonade, lime and bitters, with ice in hot weather. Colmans English mustard with M&S pork pie and a large tea in polystyrene, was my favourite takeaway.Another top video!!

Looked good, Darren! BTW just a gentle reminder....don't forget to visit the independent London brewery Sambrooks over in Wandsworth. Their range of beers and freshly made Neopolitan pizza is to die for. A pint of 'Junction' or 'Wandle' are just 2 of the great beers you'll find in the Tap Room. Leave Daisy at home for that one, take the boat along the river and or train/bus.

So how funny that today I went out for my birthday lunch, and I to had Lemonade and lime its one of my favourite although I did go for a good old fashioned plate of liver and bacon with the caramelised onion gravy.
Have to say it was delicious and of course the knickerbocker glory!! No healthy eating for me today Darren 😂🎉

Darren, I make this dish quite often at home, the only difference I do is add Tawny Port as the liquid in the gravy instead of either water or one of the liquid commercial versions like vegetable, chicken or beef liquid. Try it with the Port as it is delicious and so easy to make. If someone doesn't drink alcohol, remove the sausages and just boil the alcohol off takes only a few minutes, then re-add the sausages.
