I remember when I was very young, watching Laurel and Hardy on TV with my dad. We would laugh and laugh!! My all time favorites were the scenes with Laurel and Hardy, drunk and laughing. When Stan Laurel laughed, I would double over laughing with him... Laurel and Hardy were the funniest team ever!

Very sadly this wonderful lady died on July 28th 2017, a devastating blow for all Laurel and Hardy fans, friends of the family and anyone who knew or made contact with Lois. RIP.
Lois and her husband Tony appeared at a Laurel and Hardy silent film and theatre organ night back in the 80s in Frederick MD. I had the pleasure of meeting her after the program. A lovely and gracious lady who was so proud of her father.
After viewing the This Is Your Life, Stan Laurel video, it struck me how completely he became another person when he was in character. Although he was perhaps not completely unrecognizable when he was being himself, the pleasant, low-key, soft-spoken Englishman could have walked into a room and said hello without being spotted by people who knew only his on-screen character. He was a brilliant comic actor. He and Oliver Hardy were a brilliant team. God bless them.

This is GREAT! Lois also was on an old VHS tape called "Larel and Hardy at work. On that tape she talks about Stan and shows her film of stan fishing for salmon; she is also seen with Hal Roach. I was born in 1965 and as a youngster my dad used to take to to a pizza joint where all they played was L&H on 16mm - these guys have been with me since. The best duo of all time!!

His daughter is 86 now, which gives you a real sense of how long ago they were around making movies. Oliver Hardy was born in 1892, which is around 100 years before my time; I find that incredible to think of. I was brought up watching Laurel and Hardy tapes at my grandparents' house - some great memories there.
She 's a very nice lady took after her father. I noticed that at times her face gestures are so like her father's..well obviously. She must be now 90 years of age! I agree with you MisterM2402...great fond memories. I still watch these guys today, 2017.
They really predicted that this video would be seen by future generations. I honestly hope that Laurel and Hardy continue to be recognised for generations to come. As a man in my 20s now, I hope to do exactly that when the time comes.

You can watch their films over and over again and never tire of them - and even see and hear comedy you missed before. Anyone who cannot see or understand their comedic genius is a fool. People may not realize how unusual it was that these guys socialized together--they actually liked each other. in fact, I've read they were friends before they were teamed. I think some of that came through, their natural chemistry. It's funny this home movie was from "the chimp" because that's my favorite of their movies, hilarious.

They were both jobbing actors who were cast separately in A Lucky Dog, and they worked well together on that picture, but they didn't meet again for 5 years after that, when they were both working at Hal Roach.
The last part where she told them her daughter said, "Isn't it wonderful we can have Grandpa with us..." speaks to something I've often wondered: do the families of departed film stars take comfort from the movie presence of their lost loved ones? I suppose it depends on the type of roles they played; serious "heavy" roles wouldn't be so much fun to watch, unless there were home movies of them having fun with the family, to balance it out. My Dad played poker with Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Jerry Lewis, and many others, even Fred Trump and he watched Donald grow up. I have heard some fun stories. My Dad was asked to be an actor. He was more like Stan Laurel in many ways. I guess if they realized my Dad had a shy side, they would have walked him to the auditions in the beginning instead, cause he wouldn’t go. He needed coaching. He didn’t see himself as funny, but he was a natural. Everyone loved my Dad like they did Stan Laurel cause their humor is natural and pleasant, not offensive. My Dad made everyone’s day better when he entered a room. He was light, classy, well respected, and even General McArthurs private personal security in Brisbane in WW2 . He said McArthur was the kindest man he ever met. Everyone said my Dad was the kindest man they ever met. And I agree. That’s why I love Stan so much! He reminds me of my Dad who just pass at 103 years old June 19, 2020, and not from old age. A doctor gave him the wrong medicine that he didn’t take. He wasn’t on medication. But in any case, he brought so much joy to so many ppl, like Stan and Oliver did. My Dad was brought up on their films. And he ended up writing the softer comic material for Don Rickles. They were both born in Brooklyn, so they enjoyed and understood the same silliness, although Don was more abrasive. My Dad wasn’t. He was more childlike, like Stan Laurel. It strikes me here that R & J are trying to get Lois to spill the beans on Stan's life. Just leave the legend alone and lets enjoy it. Why do people want to probe so much? I felt uncomfortable at times with this. Questions I would have asked would have been 'so what did Stan do for leisure?', 'what did he and Ollie get up?' etc
They also rush her asking the next question before she has finished answering the last one and even talking over each other. A good interviewer lets the guest shine, whereas these two are just too gabby. Still, Lois shines with a lovely nature and was obviously close to and proud of her famous dad. A lovely lady.

Harlem, GA is near Ft. Gordon, GA, (army installation). I lived there for a few years and Harlem was practically down the road from there. Every year they have an Oliver Hardy day on his birthday, since he was born there..pretty cool.

But in front of the camera they both worked equally hard to produce a kind of unique comedy magic that has rarely been surpassed. Many other comedians were inspired by them, notably Dick Van Dyke and Britain's much loved comedy double act, Morecambe and Wise, who often cited Stan and Ollies influence on their work.

Her observation about some modern comics feeling as though they have to be in character at all times rings true. Probably contributed to the deaths of Belushi and Farley, among others..
That is often true about interviews. Programmers sometimes try to pack too much into a show and do not allow enough time to do justice to the interview
My wife and I were outside the window that day as we told my sister to watch out for us. We had no idea who was on the show that day but I remember her telling me it was Stan's daughter when we came home. It also happens that we are huge L@H fans. You can just about make out a couple of figures loitering outside which could well have been us. If I had known it was Stan's daughter I would have tried to meet her outside and get her autograph.
Laurel and Hardy were one of the few silent comics to continue starring in comedy films into the talkies (W.C. Fields, Will Rogers were the other two. Even the famed Charlie Chaplin's comedy career faded after the silents, though he continued to work in films. Charlie Chase, the Keystone Kops, and Max Davidson's comedy careers ended completely after the silents and are now forgotten(well the Keystone Kops are still remembered).

@ 755 - shouting the guest down is the standard BBC technique. This is very mild compared with some of the BBC news interviewers.

That is so kool. My Dad played poker with Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Jerry Lewis, and many others, even Fred Trump and he watched Donald grow up. I have heard some fun stories. My Dad was asked to be an actor. He was more like Stan Laurel in many ways. I guess if they realized my Dad had a shy side, they would have walked him to the auditions in the beginning instead. Everyone loved my Dad like they did Stan Laurel cause their humor is natural and pleasant, not offensive. My Dad made everyone’s day better when he entered a room. He was light, classy, well respected, and even General McArthurs private personal security in Brisbane in WW2 . He said McArthur was the kindest man he ever met. Everyone said my Dad was the kindest man they ever met. And I agree. That’s why I love Stan so much! He reminds me of my Dad who just pass at 103 years old June 19, 2020, and not from old age. A doctor gave him the wrong medicine that he didn’t take. He wasn’t on medication. But in any case, he brought so much joy to so many ppl, like Stan and Oliver did. My Dad was brought up on their films. And he ended up writing the softer comic material for Don Rickles. They were both born in Brooklyn, so they enjoyed and understood the same silliness, although Don was more abrasive. My Dad wasn’t. He was more childlike, like Stan Laurel. They would have loved each other. 🌝🙏🌝🙏

Her observation about some modern comics feeling as though they have to be in character at all times rings true. Probably contributed to the deaths of Belushi and Farley, among others..

That is often true about interviews. Programmers sometimes try to pack too much into a show and do not allow enough time to do justice to the interview

My wife and I were outside the window that day as we told my sister to watch out for us. We had no idea who was on the show that day but I remember her telling me it was Stan's daughter when we came home. It also happens that we are huge L@H fans. You can just about make out a couple of figures loitering outside which could well have been us. If I had known it was Stan's daughter I would have tried to meet her outside and get her autograph.

Laurel and Hardy were one of the few silent comics to continue starring in comedy films into the talkies (W.C. Fields, Will Rogers were the other two. Even the famed Charlie Chaplin's comedy career faded after the silents, though he continued to work in films. Charlie Chase, the Keystone Kops, and Max Davidson's comedy careers ended completely after the silents and are now forgotten(well the Keystone Kops are still remembered).

He could have asked if he were a shy man, cause he seemed more shy, which is a beautiful quality, humble.
