@@talesoffeyandfolk thank you so much for responding. I'm loving the content and have only recently (embarrassingly so) stumbled upon your channel. The rhyme I heard has to do with counting crows. I never knew the origin of the rhyme, but, after a little search in the comments section it's apparent origins (my like myself) is Yr Hen Ogledd and is associated with magpies.

@@talesoffeyandfolk You turn the bad luck good by either waving or waving and saying "Good morning Mr Magpie, hows your wife and children?".

That's the version I know. I'm from Hampshire UK and wondered if it's a region thing as to which rhyme you know?

As fond student of folklore and a proud Cornishman, who unironically loves Chough's (and can appreciate how amusing that reads), it really put a smile on my face to not only find a video mentioning them but doing so in such a fantastic and educational way. I just wanted to say, Thank you.

Thank you for your kind words :) Cornwall, a place so very dear to our hearts.... and following the return and growth of Chough populations over the years has been a delight :)

@@talesoffeyandfolk The big thing for me was in the summer seeing a pair nesting on the cliffs at Godrevy where people go to see the seals, it's truly wonderful to see, totally worth a trip out there when the chance arises :)

Kind of wild to know of so many different beliefs and lore of the magpie. Others to but this is just crazy stuff. My first introduction to the magpie was the series detectorists

I rescued an injured magpie today. Found him under my pine tree. I think a gust of wind caused him to crash into my tree. I took him to a vet hospital who will take him to a wildlife rehabilitation center. I hope he's going to get the help he needs.

Such a beautiful narrative voice, I love watching your videos! I feed a family of crows, jackdaws and a lonely magpie from out of my windowsill in the centre of Amsterdam. Every day they come to visit and give me so much joy!

Love this channel and its stories. I have had great positive experiences with corvids, ravens mainly one which followed me after helping a raven who had been attacked by a cat in a local park opposite where I lived. BB

Love this new channel I have stumbled upon.
In the beginning you talked about the Jay. I found it kind of humorous that the poor folk or were eating these birds while the Queen could eat swans, etc. We may heed some of these warns of those that don’t learn from history make the same mistakes. With that being said, look at how our elites of every country is treating us simple folks and brainwashing us into believing in cow farts and eating bugs is the new rage. There will be a rage for sure, when people are craving meat and with our current population, how many Jays will be around in the next 10-20 years. Just saying my bit…
