I'm not very familiar with the classical music scene, but one prejudice/stereotype (?) that I have is that classical musicians will still continue to play pieces from the classical period beethoven/schubert/haydn etc. so there would really be no place (?) for composers like them. Are there any well known classical composers that are alive today? Or is it called classical music because it came from the classical period? Sorry too many questions, and quite bad english but I hope that I sent my message across. :))

My favourite piece has to be the Ode to Swiss Rolls. With each sequence it actually felt like I was going through the motions of anticipating, eating and then longing for more. The anticipation made me peckish, the feasting made it taste delicious just by the sound. Fluffy, creamy, flavourful, was it chocolate? And the longing actually made me want more so I had to replay the piece and go through the motions. It takes talent to invoke the senses like that, well done to composer-san whoever you are

when you start sight reading, make sure to read pieces right below your level. If you’re a pianist or organist, learn to read simultaneously. That’s all the advice I can give as a crappy sight reader as well 😭😭😭😭

I'm a pianist playing at diploma level and still can't sight read. I normally learn by mostly listening. I would say everyone has different strengths, but one method I used was to learn it backwards by getting used to reading the scores after you actually know the piece, and of course it takes a lot of practice.
      Good luck!!
