- Landing can be a challenge, whereas take-off is straightforward. Use the cyclic and collective beep trims (2x sets of four inputs), to bring the H145 to a landing spot - and just to make things more challenging, we land in a stadium. I suspect that the stadium here has been updated by the Orbx GB Central add-on. The main lessons issustrated are approach at say 60 knots, decrease speed slowly to around 40 knots, bring in hover mode, then (i) Practice and get to know the time it takes to lose momentum as you come to a stop in hover (GTC.H) mode, and (ii) The shift in momentum when using the beep trims. GTC (effectively taxi mode) can also be effective as well. (iii) You can use the map within the NAVD screen - eaiser if you turn off the terrain colouration - to map very accurately the postion of the H145 - even to say an area of a car-park. (iv) Don't be afraid to mix an external, near-overhead view, with yout internal view to judge where you are in space, especially when it comes to tying to hover accurately over a landing site. In addition, in the future we look forward to Hype adding the rear mounted camera which will improve this.
Timescale:

You have some of the best videos. I have learned so much.. I am trying to catxh up to your level. Captain. Great work.
That's great to hear Brian. Don't hesitate to put in the chat anything you think would be useful for any more videos.
for a second i thought i was listening to George Russel
brother in christ.. dont use AP for that. learn to manually do it. same for taxing at 2ft off the ground around an airport like irl is done. as for arcade or realism settings, i actually recommend arcade since the flight models and our lack of motion at the computer works better with yaw forces subdued. but there isnt much of a difference otherwise. anyway, learn to fly my brother. stop auto pilot. auto pilot is for long flight so your legs and hands can relax
Thanks John - but the irony is I think that when starting out the easiest thing for newbies - and I am still a newbie - is to start out with the hover settings. In one of my earlier videos I used a good amount on non AP to circle a runway, but the problem is that to fly and alter the settings, even if you have a decent setup, is challenging. I have been watching the comments on Discord re the flight model and arcade mode - interesting. Take care. Also, recording in free flight rather than AP is somethign of a challenge as well. We might see some improvements post November when the anticipated MSFS update might give the team more dynamics to incorporate and work with.
@@theflyingdoctor the funky stuff is near the ground especially when you are lifting off or touching down it really confuses the sim. some people get random up and down jerks while in flight, but i have not experienced those. and there is some weird rotor torque to change of speed and climb rate behavior - way too reactive. we will see how native helicopter support improves these areas. the 145 is basically always in autopilot. if want to see what i mean, turn off all the systems. the thing basically can hoover itself input free when you settle it. its a terrible unit to learn on because it doesnt teach you how a heli behaves. at the same time, it is very well suited for the non heli specific controllers - slide throttles and stiff overcentering joysticks. in any case, helicopters are 60% throttle 30 cyclic and 10% rudder. the power affects everything else. tldr; non assisted helicopters are torture to fly in sims with generic controllers. but this gives you the wrong impression of how it really should be. real life is something in between
The H145 drifts all over the place when the autopilot is switched off, a difficult machine to fly when compared to Cabri G2, would be great if you have a tutorial on how to hand fly without the autopilot. Thanks.
Jeff. Tutorial coming on this - will be up later tonight. Massive changes in stability now with the right settings in the H145, and with the right settings in MSFS2020. I'll get you flying really smooth; no jolts to correct, no need to keep applying changes to the stick, and I'll even get you landing without autopilot. Take care.
@@theflyingdoctor I'm a big fan of your tutorials, looking forward to learn from your flying lessons . Many thanks.
Good evening: I use the H145 in msfs. How do you locate emergency site locations? Currently, I fly to a nearby airport and search for the.location marker. However, is there a better way? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you
HI - sorry for the delay - You can ,ake the helipad locations appear on the MSFS World Map Screen. Click on space, then click on More, then Open Filters, and if your helipads are not selected you can scroll down and click them on. This also has the advantage of being able to turn off what you do not want to see - perhaps larger airports, or water runways. Let me know how you get on. The other option - because keeping track of add-ons can be difficult - use something like MSFS Add On Linker - but this will only show for Helipads you ahve installed separately into your community folder.
I am considering purchasing this. Are there good manuals? Great video by the way.
Landing seems a lot easier in VR
Landing with the external cams… seriously?
What flight controls do you use.
Rhino x56 throttle and stick. Logitech rudder pedals (but the twist on the stick will do for testing). I also use a streamdeck for controlling views with key combinations programmed into the buttons...
