  • In this video, I present an analogy that I created back when I struggled to understand Alternating Current flow. I created what I call the "Traveling Workers Analogy." It's not perfect, but I think students new to electrical theory will be able to relate to it. It's very simple, and to be understood, it requires very little prerequisite knowledge.
ERROR ALERT: At 4:04, I SHOULD have said "FIFTEEN men, " NOT "five" men. Sorry about that!
My 15A-15A example represents a "balanced load."
My 20A-15A example represents an "unbalanced load."
My 30A-Electric Dryer example shows the RED "live" conductor connected DIRECTLY to Bus Bar A rather than to a "double-pole" breaker. This is intentional-to show CLEARLY that each "live" conductor in the example is connected to a DIFFERENT Bus Bar.
DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a qualified/certified electrician or teacher. I am NOT giving ANY sort of instruction regarding the hands-on practice of electrical work. I'm just a man who uses his brain every so often, a man who likes to share ideas.
NOTE: When performing ANY electrical work at home, TURN OFF THE POWER first!
