You can exchange the nib thru Montblanc, the only problem being is that montblanc has stated that they cannot promise the nib size you request will be replaced in the special edition nib version…which irritated me instantly
I bought this exact pen a couple months back. It's been in constant use and inked. I got it in a medium. It isn't a super wet medium, I don't know if that is how Montblanc usually tune their nibs? But nothing like a super wet Pelikan nib. Nib is bouncy a bit, but hardly any line variation on my medium. I agree about the barrel not being the same swirly pattern as the cap. I have no idea why they made that choice. Other than that I love the pen. I wanted a 146, but I was going to get the Glacier version of it. Wanted a special edition version not the regular black and yellow gold. I saw this come out and pounced on it. I even found it 100 dollars off from everyone else. I really feel like this pen is elegant without being too boring. The blue reminds me of the JFK blue pens.
Hi Doug, great video, I see your imperial Grand Poobah from the Loyal Order of the Water Buffalos is lending you more of his special collection. The nib on this one looks delightful.
Doug it has been my impression that you favor Fine nibs. To see you using a BB ( is this a first on your videos?) is liberating! BB and architect are my favorites. Murray was able to access that BB because he must be a member of some underground fountain pen clandestine group . Thank you Murray, again , for letting us peak at your collection.
I have no doubt as to Mr. Murray's clandestine fountain pen connections. I prefer medium to broad nibs more than fine. But most Chinese pens don't give you that option.
Very nice version of the 146. I have the 100th anniversary ballpoint. Wonderful writer but it is only a ballpoint. Going back, Montblanc makes great pens, especially their special editions. I have the Oscar Wilde and Edgar Alan Poe pens. They can certainly make the entire pen out of resin. Why not this one? It is just odd. Can you swap nibs on a Montblanc pen? I guess so. Murray has a great collection. How can you not be impressed? Great review, Doug?
A fine pen but why, oh why, does MB have produce such stodgy materials; as you say, if only the barrel was in the same material. FWIW I suspect the MB directors must have an overabundance of Calvinists who stay awake at night worrying that somewhere in the world someone is smiling. Best wishes from Nungurner Normie.
You can get a seat at the Stanley Cup finals in Sunrise, Florida, for the same price as Murray's pen. 🥅⛸ On the other hand, you (and I) can watch the game from afar basically for free, but we can't write "Go Oilers" with the MB for less than @ US$1000.00. Not incidentally: Inquiring Minds said in 2023 that the Wing Sung 630 is "physically identical" to the Montblanc 149. And that the nib writes beautifully. And that the price gap between the two pens is "ridiculous."

It is vaguely like a JFK, but not as hefty.
@InkquiringMinds I like rhe JFK models, but I dislike that they don't post.
Thanks. Always informative and a pleasure. If you had to choose. MB 146 vs Pelican M800 or 805?
The M800 every day of the week!
Thanks for sharing Doug!
You bet!

You are correct!

Gracias por la revisión. La tengo en punta fina😊
Very interesting and weird that the cap and barrel don’t match. That’s hard to tell from the pictures.
murray is rapidly becoming a fountain pen celebrity
I might have to pay him scale.
Doug. Are there any pens, that, oops, somehow get, *cough*, lost, on the way back to Murray? 😊
Nope. He keeps a close eye on pens on loan. I know SBRE Brown has kept a few, but he bought them! LOL

I agree!!

I did say that and stand by it!
