The impulse back step, like a sprinter's back leg at the start of a race, is the key to so many movements in judo. You'll start seeing it everywhere if you look closely
Kouchi gari is the ashi waza I always have some problems with , despite being one of the first techniques you learn and teach, it has so many details that you are always re checking stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Suzukis ko uchi is different. He hooks the guy foot and pulls it backwards. Suzuki have a kodokan video on this i belive where he shows his variation that he does. Its pretty different to the regular ko uchi gari
I had a question tho. Takato kouchi similar to an changrim and abe looks like the reaping foot plants on the mat with their heel and they kind of hook the foot. When I try to do this the best case is i make my uke stumble in randori but since I put all my weight on my reaping leg I can't lift my foot when my opponent tries to unhook. Am I missing something?
Awesome type of video and also getting takato to answer to you. More videos like this, discussing technical and tactical aspects of judo
I believe there’s a family tie with Takato
somebody give me more of this
more stuff like this 👌

yeah it is everywhere, at the highest level.
Really interesting stuff, i love to teach about ashi waza, i'd definitely use that content

Small voice error at 18 sec, should be fine tho 😅

takato and hifumi seem like pretty good friends.. i wonder how others feel abt takato moving up to -66
I think they’ll enjoy the rivalry
Great video!!
Some of Suzuki's attacks might be classified more as a gake than gari. Either way, they're vicious!
where can i find the book? whats the title?
It’s called ashiwaza dake no kyokasho. Amazon JP
1:14 being a wazari instead of ippon is criminal
Then gaved ippon
Watching this before bjj. Kouchi is my favourite.
It's easily my favorite ashi waza. Nothing better than hitting it clean and staying standing afterwards
The old guy in the demonstration kept bending his leg...
What?
Takato also uses a gake rather than a gari, so this would be a key difference between his and Suzuki's?
I wouldn’t call it gake. Gake just ends up being makikomi

Most of your weight should actually be on your backfoot, because you need to hop with them and lift up the sweeping leg to chase their foot.
Your voiceover runs over itself early on in the video. Great video though!
Sorry about that
What is Keiji Suzukis book called?
ashiwaza dake no kyoukasho
Please, could you share how to get the book of Suzuki? Thanks for the content.
Amazon Japan
