    Simon, THANK YOU. This video helps me visualize your set-up really well. Now I understand the 2 dimensional video I've been seeing and how it all fits together. It's super-cool and well thought out.

      G’day Vince buddy - thanks for watching. I’m glad the video kind of made sense of the madness that is the “ghetto” of vertical antennas haha. I’ve just purchased something to make this even more portable, lightweight and compact wooohooo more soon buddy! Cheers

      G'day Vic buddy, thanks so much for your kind words mate. Oh yes, building antennas is the greatest Vic. It's so nice when antennas work - and I tell ya mate.... this tape measure antenna for the price and the performance is just incredible. I love it! It's such a funny looking thing and a gas to build and assemble every time I use it at the park hahaha. Cheers buddy.

    Love the use of data cable for radials. I’ve done similar with a cord winding spool from Bunnings. I use a 5m length of 4 pair (which gives me 40m of wire) and I use a 75-100mm length of the outer insulation over the untwisted wires as a winding guide/sleeve to prevent tangles. The wires are terminated at the spool end to eyes that are fastened by a brass bolt with wing nut. I use an alligator clip or eye terminal to connect to antenna ground and voila!! VK2NRD

    Was a fun experiment with the whip and the tape measure! From what I was seeing here is they are equally matched. I am pretty sure the QSB was making the difference between the two. And yes it is AMAZING how well it works!! lol Lots of fun.. 73 VE1SK

      Hey Buddy, what I forgot to do and I'll do it next time, as it's nothing to bring the Alpha Whip as well, is I am going to get both antennas 1:1 and then say on 10 meters which is a huge wide band, scroll from end to end on both antennas and see which one has a 'higher Q'. What's your thinking? Which one? Fun stuff buddy. See ya on the air and discord my friend

    Hi Simon, tape measure antenna such a simple and unique idea. Make you wonder why the antenna manufacturer s haven't made something like that.
    It's not just putting out a good signal, but drawing out the stations with your enthusiasm and friendship. And making radio fun. People remember you and come back for more.
    Once again Happy New Year, and many more contacts and spread a little bit of happening across the world.

      G'day David, wow you're too kind mate! As for the antenna buddy - I couldn't agree more. When I did the math to add up the ACTUAL costings for this, and the overall performance of the antenna is staggering to say the least... I just couldn't believe how cheap and it is. By building something like this, that works and is resonant on every band (70cm-40M) you not only save hundreds and possible even thousands of dollars on the antenna itself, but you also don't need a tuner, an extra saving. It's all so much fun buddy. Happy new year to you my friend and thanks again for all of your support David. Cheers!

    • @thehamjazz
      @thehamjazz  Год назад +1

      Hey buddy thanks for your comment. I’ve thought about using screen materials as the radials but from my experience, the signals due to ground loss are significant, that’s why I like have them elevated. Thanks for the awesome video idea buddy wooohoooo cheers mate

      @@thehamjazz I thought that would be an excellent video idea as well! Would be cool to quickly switch between the two and have people signal test it. Would be a bit time consuming and would help to have a second person switch it out while you operate. Anyway, enjoy your videos as always! 73 Mike

    Great video once again. I had a POTA contact with you one of the times you used that antenna and you were just booming into the South Santa Clara Valley 59+.
    The fishing rod is genius. Do you still go fishing with it? If not you could remove the line quides just by cutting the threads that hold them to the rod. I think I am going to have to go out and rummage around my "stockpile" and see if I can come up with one. I already and two 13ft "crappie poles" that would work too I'm thinking. 73 KN6ZVI
