Hi! I love your remarks. I am Catholic too in USA. This ancient music stirs my soul as well. Perhaps it was the inspirational foundation for the early Western music that began as Gregorian chant. I am not a historian so have no idea. Best regards.
the real traditional persian music is made to expand the poetry which that music is made for. for persian music a poem is essential. to the persian, love is the most important part of the life, a good poem is the poem which can elaborate and picture the meaning of love better. now, your religion, nationality, race, ext is relevant, just melt into the love and divine.
Im 70. Grew up on rock & blues. I found myself inching toward African, then Indian, then as i added assorted Middle Eastern. Over the years i would lay down, close my eyes and see dancing... choreography. Then i'd get up and dance! Spin with scarves. My world was everywhere. Im stiff and sore now - but sometimes im free and i soar around! Touch the earth and the sky! Oh, im so happy i hear this music!
My post is directed to a true authority in Persian Music. I realize that all of Persian Music cannot be lumped into one homogenous group and labeled "Persian" any more than anyone could group and label "American" Music. There are many distinct genres in each. That being said, is this music truly "Persian with Middle Eastern influences" as was suggested in the description above? Similar to Ms. Allen, I REALLY enjoy this music...whatever it is. I also believe I would enjoy it even more if I knew more about the music and it's origins. I was listening to a sample of another genre, Indian, I believe. Although I was enjoying the music similar to this sample, a commentor, in that arena, came out directly and called the sample "Non Indian". Not being an expert in either genre I simply don't know. I DO KNOW THAT I ENJOY THE MUSIC! I simply cannot accurately identify it's origins. I don't enjoy it any less. It still serves to hold my attention to unique music in my efforts to relax my mind to assist me to fall and remain in a deep(er) sleep. I grew up relying on Rain and flowing water, Birds & Forest sounds, Gregorian Chants, then branching out to Egyptian, Sumarian, Indian, Persian, Arabian, Turkish, etc. Unique instruments add a soothing touch and vocals add complexity as long as the language is unfamiliar to me. I continue to identify "hidden gems" which serve to knock me out and keep me down without medical assistance. I simply would like to know what I'm listening to.
When you truly love music, eventually you gravitate towards many different types. Its been my personal experience. I can also very much relate to drifting off into choreography. 😊
@@georgehouse5086 Well, it's not _inauthentic._ I wouldn't say you listen to it and immediately think "ah, definitely a Persian piece, definitely not from any Arab nation!" - but the choice of instruments is authentic, and much classical Persian music indeed has the same general "vibe": same sort of "dark" / "somber" overall feel, same sort of vocals (tahrir), same sort of melodic contour of phrase that's punctuated by emphatic ornament/sudden energetic cadence, etc. In general, most Middle Eastern and Central Asian classical musics owe a huge - some might say "overwhelming"! - amount to the Iranian musical tradition, so this being "mixed" with "[general] Middle Eastern influences" doesn't actually even make it less "Persian", if you know what I mean. So: my judgment is *"yes,* it is what it claims to be"... _(...but:_ I don't know a lot about music _qua_ music, only music _qua_ Persian history, so please forgive me if I missed some total-giveaway characteristically-Persian / -not-Persian bit of "contrapuntal polyphony" - or _whatever_ musical jargon it ought to be, heh - that my barbarian ears were too simple to catch.) For fun: search for "Tasnife Sepideh" for one of my personal favorite classically Persian pieces. (It's quite different from this, but that isn't to be taken to mean this is "inauthentic"; I picked it to suggest partly *because* it helps show the wide range of musical forms developed - back in the glory days of the Shahanshah! o7)
@Kveldred. Thanks. I am now 10X more educated with respect to Middle Eastern and more specifically Ancient Persian Music. It just seems to check all the boxes as far as my requirements for unique, soothing, ambient music which will serve to relax me and help me achieve deep sleep in minutes. I am amazed at my results. I'm now experimenting with afternoon naps. It's much different when you can count on achieving sleep in 5 minutes.
Victoria, it's a good thing you allow your heart and soul to soar on all music, foreign or otherwise to you; for what is the true joy of the soul if it's devoid of variety, what is the quality of life staged mainly in monotony...? The true richness of a soul lies in its access to diversity in musical genre and vibrance in cultures. We are creatures of colour and if we can't explore its many beautiful facets, appreciate it and embrace its wealth, then what is life, living and being? Please let your soul be free to explore, appreciate and be enriched with God's creation, of which music in diversity, is one of the greatest of them all.
I'm human and just appreciate being free from religious indoctrination to be able to enjoy all the world has to offer without guilt or Dogma. Love to all the brothers and sisters around the world.
