- Our last stop in Montenegro was Kotor. Kotor is a city famous for its cats. When you enter the old town in Kotor, it is very normal to feel yourself in the Middle Ages. In addition to green and blue, the grey tone of the buildings will take you back to the old times...
Places to stay in Kotor: Apartments Bucin (Bućin)
We stayed at Apartman Bucin in Kotor with the reservation we made through Booking.com. Bucin Apartment is located in a very quiet location. Walking distance to the centre. However, if you decide to go, do not search for it on google maps. Be sure to contact the landlord. The location on google maps makes the road a little longer. The owner was a very sweet woman. The house has a lush, large garden. And even by looking out of the window you can see the bay of Kotor, you can watch the cruise ships standing there. The house has all the tools to meet your needs. There are markets in many parts of the city. But be careful because the markets are closed on public holidays and Sundays. There is also a small shopping centre in the city. But don't have high expectations. Because it is really small...
Kotor Old Town (Stari Grad) Clock Tower / Pillar of Shame / St Tryphon Cathedral
On our first day, we visited Stari Grad, which is the first place that comes to mind when it comes to Kotor and contains many historical places. The old buildings and the greyness of the environment made us feel in the Middle Ages. As a big Lord of the Rings fan, we felt ourselves in the Middle Ages. When we entered the old town from the main entrance gate, we were greeted by a large clock tower. The old buildings behind the clock tower and the high green mountain behind it formed a perfect composition. We waited at the entrance for a while to enjoy it. In front of the clock tower we noticed a pyramid shaped structure. And we learnt that this was the shame column. The place where people who committed offences were punished in ancient times... When you go a little further, you will come across Kotor St Tryphon Cathedral. St Tryphon Cathedral is also one of the places to be seen in Stari Grad.
You should pay your tax in Stari Grad again. You can get help from the tourist information office in front of the main gate of Stari Grad.
Sacred Cats in Kotor
Cats are considered sacred in Kotor. The reason for this is that rats raided the city in ancient times. Cats were brought from abroad by ship and thanks to these cats, the city was saved from rat infestation.
In honour of this, there is a cat museum in the old town...
Stari grad, old town or old town... Whatever you call it, it is a place that evokes perfect feelings both during the day and in the evening. With its small and sweet cafes, crowded, narrow streets and small bars in these narrow streets, Stari Grad has a perfectly pleasant atmosphere... In the evening, you can take a long walk by entering through the Gardik gate, take a break in a bar and have a cool drink.
DON'T RETURN FROM KOTOR WITHOUT DOING THESE!
STEP BY STEP KOTOR OLD TOWN EMPTY STREETS AND CLIMBING THE CASTLE
Early in the morning - 05:30 will be a good time for this - you can climb the castle step by step through the empty streets of Kotor Stari Grad. A man waiting at the gate asked us 10 Euros per person, but he was a cleaner working there. Normally, climbing to the castle is paid, but if you go before 08:00, you can pass without paying because there is no main attendant like us. Anyway, 1355 steps in total will be waiting for you. However, when you look back at the unique view of Kotor at every climb, you will realise that it is worth it. You can also take a photo of the Lady Remedy Church, the symbol of Kotor, and the view of Kotor here. Continue climbing past the Lady Remedy Church and continue climbing the stairs to San Giovanni Castle. The view will get more and more beautiful...
What to Eat in Kotor? Where to Eat in Kotor?
We had a nice pizza at Sara Pizzeria in Kotor; however, there are many restaurants where you can eat pizza. The Square Pub is located directly opposite St Tryphon's Cathedral. The food was not too bad. For breakfast, you can choose Pekara Bakery opposite the Old Town and eat Burek. Apart from Kotor Stari Grad, we also recommend you to eat cheesecake at Dolce Vita Cheesecake Shop.
FAST BOAT TOUR - Lady Of Rock
If you come to Kotor, do not return without a Fast Boat Tour. You can see the city of Donji Stoliv, Mamula Island, Submarine Base, Blue Cave and Perast by starting from the perfect bay and passing by the cruise ships. You can also stop at the island of Lady of Rocks and take beautiful photos, see Sveti Dorde Island up close, and enjoy the moment by giving your back to Perast...
Have a good trip in advance. I hope you like our video... :)
