The Story Of The Jungle (League of Legends)

- In nearly a decade of competitive League of Legends, one role has changed more frequently, more dramatically than any other.
But in every year, after every rework, and despite every nerf - a resilient group of players have made it their mission to master it.
This is the story of League of Legends’ jungle and of those players brave and bold enough to conquer it.

History of jungle: I’m running it down mid my jungler didn’t gank my lane enough
I'm running it down mid.. my jungler didn't let me get blue buff
I’m running it down mid we didn’t get first blood
As a jungle main I know that wether or not a jungler ganks you is more About the laner than the actual jungler. A good jungler Will never gank an inting lane, an overextended lane (only if you cant dive), a line without knowlegde of the position of the enemy jungler, countergank a losing lane. Junglers want to be effecient with their time rather than ganking useless lanes.
Skipper honestly the reason why I hate playing jungle and am a solid mid laner. Playing jungle means you have to rely more on people that you can’t effectively communicate and more often than not are worse than you. Way to much of a pain imo.

Boy, this takes me back. I remember when jungling required you to start with Cloth Armor+5 Health Potions because there were no jungle items, and only champions with extremely high inbuilt sustain or tankiness could jungle at all because the jungle was so deadly, Smite wasn't as efficient, and nobody had thought of leashing yet. At one point I used to take Smite+Ignite so I could Ignite the first camp to not only kill it quicker but also get the +5 attack the associated mastery would give me when Ignite was on CD.
Also, the days when you could see people playing Sona, Mordekaiser, Rammus, even _Garen._
Oh, and by the way, you're wrong: the first jungle-specific items in the game were Madred's Razor and Wriggle's Lantern, which were designed to have a chance of doing massive extra damage to neutral monsters, before the Spirit items.
Cool story bro... I played Dota so I'm better than you
What an incredible video! Hope lots of people see this. Great job on thoroughness and clip selections
Watching this in 07/20, and I had not play League consistently in a few years. Coming back I'm finding hard to adjust to this always ganking meta, was gonna give up on being a Jungle main but this video motivated me to figure it out again.
I'd love to see this kind of video for other roles
Diamondprox is the OG! M5 had a real shot at winning Worlds S2, would've been nuts
I find it so cool how 4 out of 5 of the current skt members were mentioned in this jungle history.
The intro should have been "you hear the quiet howling of your bot laner as he is spam pinging you with 2 deaths before you've even finished your first clear"
Cant wait for support documentary
Every time I lose a game as a jungler I think to myself at least I didn’t die to red buff.

Just me or was this video generally more painful to watch than their average? Quality just felt sorta low. Was feeling it throughout but was convinced by ending it with stating "jungle is league's hardest role" as fact and replaying the same clips we'd already seen.
@@2LettersSho For sure not just you. I thought the guy had no clue what he was talking about throughout the video.
Didn't even mention wriggles lantern, feral flare and the buffs when you smite the camps :(
So Diamondprox is the foundation of jungling rn ..
Dang what a god
This video sums up why I don't play jungle unless I'm autofilling.
There's just so much you need to keep track of, more than what we already keep track of in every other lane.
I actually needed this video because I lost 2 games as jungler and kept getting flamed. I made mistakes yes, but I'm still learning.
That's really good dude, keep trying, I'm sure you're gonna get good one day.

Ah yes, I was there 3000 years ago. When everything else was new and everyone was struggling to survive. Those were the days
Ah, the funnel meta...that did happen...
When you realise how old is "new" Summoners Rift
I've been playing since early, early beta. I remember talking about how jungling would be common. There wasn't resetting camps like there was in DotA-Allstars, but there was still leashing / tanking and the basic ideas followed in "total number of resources available should be divided as best as you can." At the time there weren't too many junglers though since it was very niche and required both sustain and durability. Ganking was secondary, since you'd eventually outscale in the late game due to just having more gold on everyone.
EDIT: Yes, the old jungle had less gold, but the best players didn't have problem last hitting almost every creep so it was better to have hard carries and have junglers act somewhat as a "second support" -- it was still super common even in the beta.
After playing both dota 2 and league for 1000s of hours each over the years, league really lacks utility. Theres so many heroes in dota that are useful thanks to their kits which just doesnt translate to league where damage is really all that matters.
@@MrSomnix : Utility in LoL does matter somewhat. One problem with LoL is that most Champions have to be self sufficient and can't be as niche as DotA heroes. There are a few that are very utility heavy, like Soraka, but she's one of the few. Another thing with DotA is the large amount of items that play a huge importance, which is not so much for LoL. It is more streamlined and balanced while DotA can be super extreme at times. They are both different and offer unique things. Personally, I like aspects from both of them, although I prefer LoL more than DotA since DotA has some really frustrating aspects and lack of counterplay in some moves / items.
As far as I know, mastering the jungle as Riven is definitively difficult at its own limits.
I transitioned from being a jungler into a support because I can't keep up with the changes and I don't have enough skill for the job... I must say junglers really are the most skilled player in the map and the most important role of them all
A whole vid about the jg without one mention of 'i just got solo killed for the fifth time by my lane opponent. better jg wins, gg.'
I feel like the scuttle crab changes should’ve been mentioned. They massively changed pathing, they allowed mana hungry champions to farm more/safer, and promoted early game skirmishes with laners and junglers
The opening reminded me of that Shia Labouef video where they talk about seeing him in the wooda
the game was so much more exciting back then.
Real talk you focused to much on pros and not on the changes in jungle itself, example the jungle monsters that had buffs if you smited them or wriggle's lantern
The channel is about esports, ofcourse the vid is gonna focus more about how the pros played jgl

Wow a whole video about Bengi? 👌🏻👌🏻
5:30 If this was Season 2 why is it called the Insec when Insec first performed it at Season 3 All Stars?
Because the ward was already placed. What made it an Insec play is placing the ward/ flashing while going in. Usually before the 2nd Q even hits. If I remember right.
I think it is because insec did the play unexpectedly, outside of a teamfight and immobilizing a central carry in the futuristic teamfight. Not because he was chasing someone down.
moscow 5? +1 +1 +1 up up

You gotta show peanut’s ls in MSI 2017 against Levi’s Graves
I'm kinda sad that Blue Ezreal (the original spirit of the elder lizard) didn't debut in this episode. that was the single moment ezreal jungle became a legitimate thing!
Blue Ezreal with Elder Lizard was played on lane tho, just like any other jungle item he abused on lane - Wriggles Lantern, Runeglaive, Runic Echo. The only time Ezreal jungle was meta and dominant was S7.
Goooood damn i aint heard the name madlife in forever
Speaking of flexibility. There is a role where players were forced to learn a few new champions besides the 10-15 similar autoattacking characters, and these players completely lost their shit off of it after 2 patches :)
Me: Wow that was a nice flashback, is the video almost over
Video: Still at 8: 23
Me: ._.
But fr these old clips are hella throw back hard to remember playing at that time honestly. I remember feeling like a god when I would leash for our jungle and have the golem walk back and forth endlessly so the jungler wouldn't take any dmg from the camp lol
@7:05
Season 3 wasn't the first jungle specific items by a longshot. Madred's Razor and Wriggle's Lantern were in the game since 1.0 and were the first example of items explicitly mentioning "monsters" instead of "minions." The season 3 items were designed to have more options for junglers that didn't want Wriggle's. Also they were broken as fuck at launch; Elder Lizard had a true damage burn (like red buff) but it could stack if you could apply it quickly for it's short 3 second duration. Enter Hecarim.
thats pretty interesting and unexpected
I love how no one fucking realized that hyper started in 3v3 and it's been plagueing the game forever
