Welcome to my new Patreon series on making a maquette figure in oil-based clay. This tutorial series is about working from our knowledge of anatomy and imagination at a small scale. We’ll be making a 1/6 scale male figure in oil-based clay using basic rules of proportion along with some common sense and easy to use anatomy knowledge. This video series is for you with limited space and budget wanting to get into sculpture. Enjoy!
The full video is available to my Patrons who support me with $10 or more. The full length video is over 1 hour long and full of valuable information. To support me on Patreon and watch the full video:

My name is Eirik Arnesen, I'm a sculptor from Norway, living and working in Florence, Italy. I teach sculpture at the Florence Academy of Art and on this channel I'll share with you every step of my process, discussing materials, tools and techniques. Eventually you'll find tutorials on how I go about sculpting everything from a portrait to a life-size figure.

Just curious. What do you do (during molding and casting) with the part of the body that receives the armature wire from the plumbers flange? I assume the silicone mold and mother mold would have a hole and then gets plugged?

Yes you are right. There will be a hole. The key to this is that the hole is located somewhere where it's going to be easy to patch. An area of low detail and broad forms in other words!

@@EirikArnesenArt thanks! Thats why you mentioned to choose an area with little information. I see. Now when you say “patching”, is this done to the resin copy like how you do patching holes in seams?

Can I use the regular wire for armature?

Depends on what regular wire means? I would try and see how it works! It's not wrong if it works 😉
